PREFACE
Thank you fo choosing In Win IW-RS424-02M. This manual is w itten fo system technicians who a e
esponsible fo installation, t oubleshooting, managing, and epai ing this se ve chassis. This
document p ovides the ove view of all the featu es of the chassis, a list of accesso ies o othe
components you may need to finish the installation, t oubleshooting methods, and inst uctions of
adding and emoving components on the In Win IW- RS424-02M. Fo the latest ve sion of this manual,
you may visit In Win’s se ve website to download the latest updated ve sion.
SAFETY INFORMATION
To ensu e safe and smooth ope ation of you In Win IW- RS424-02M, it is essential that you choose an
app op iate location fo the system, p ovide an app op iate ope ating envi onment, and adequate
powe fo all components of the system. As you plan fo installation, follow the guidelines below to
ensu e that the system and its envi onment a e safely and app op iately positioned fo efficient
ope ation and se vice. You system should be installed and se viced only by technically qualified
pe sons.
Environ ent selection: The system is designed to ope ate in a typical office envi onment. The location
should be a clean, d y, and f ee of ai bo ne pa ticles; a well-ventilated oom and away f om sou ces of
heat including di ect sunlight and adiato s; it should keep the sou ces of vib ation o physical shock
away; the space should be with a p ope ly g ounded wall outlet, and with sufficient space to access the
powe supply co ds. The ope ation envi onment tempe atu e should be a ound 0°C to 40°C (32°F to
104°F).
Heed safety instructions: Befo e wo king with In Win IPC/Sto age se ve / System p oducts, we st ongly
ecommend you a e using this guide as a efe ence and follow the safety inst uctions. The inst uctions
in this manual will help you ensu e and maintain compliance with existing p oduct ce tifications and
app ovals. Follow the desc ibed, egulated components mentioned in this manual. Use of non UL
listing p oducts o othe egulato y did not app ovals will make non-compliance with p oduct
egulations in the egion(s) in which the p oduct is sold.
Syste power on/off: The powe button DOES NOT totally tu n off the system AC powe . To emove
the powe of system, you have to unplug the AC powe co d f om the outlet o system’s powe supply
units. Make su e the powe co d is unplugged befo e you open the chassis, add, o emove any
components.

Hazardous conditions, devices and cables: Haza dous elect ical conditions usually p esent on powe
supply units, and communication cables. Disconnect the powe co d, and any othe device which
attached to the se ve befo e opening the case. Othe wise, it will aise the isk of pe sonal inju y o
equipment damage.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) and ESD protection: In most cases, ESD damages disk d ives, elect onic
boa ds, and othe pa ts. We ecommend that you wo k the installation only at an ESD f ee space. If the
situation does not allow, pe fo m ESD p otection actions by wea ing an anti-static w ist st ap attached
to g ound any unpainted metal su face on you se ve du ing you ope ation.
Installing or re oving ju pers: A jumpe is a sho t length of conducto used to close, open o bypass
pa t of an elect onic ci cuit. Jumpe s on In Win backplane have a small tab on top that you can pick up
with you finge tips. G ip the jumpe ca efully, and plug the jumpe to cove the jumpe pins on the
backplane. Once you need to emove the jumpe , g ipping the jumpe , and ca efully pull out without
squeezing.
CAUTION
To avoid damage and p ove you safety, please notice and following the te ms listed below:
1. No to populate ha d d ives and tu n on the powe befo e the system is settle down.
2. Tighten o loosen all the sc ews, please use sc ew d ive to ope ate.
3. Apply the co ect sc ews which packed in the accesso ies box.
4. Fo you safety, it equi es at least two pe sons lift, and place the unit.
5. Befo e mounting the unit to the cabinet, make su e the ail is installed co ectly.
6. When installing and emoving any module o pa ts, please ope ate by the handles.

2Hardware Installation
2.1 Removing and Installing a Ha d D ive
In Win IW-RS424-02M has 24 exte nal hot-swap disk bays, which suppo t both 3.5” ha d d ives,
2.5” ha d d ives, and 2.5” SSDs. Also, IW-RS424-02M suppo ts 2 inte nal 2.5” ha d d ives o SSDs
fo building system OS.
2.1.1 Installing a Ha d D ive
Step 1: P ess the elease button then pull outwa d the disk t ay
Step 2: Populate the ha d d ive on the t ay with 4 sc ews which you can find in the accesso y
box.

2.1.2 Removing a Ha d D ive
Step 1: P ess the elease button then pull outwa d the disk t ay.
Step 2: Loosen the 4 sc ews and unmount the ha d d ive.

2.1.3 Installing 2.5” 2bay SSD module
Step 1: Remove the slot b acket to left the space fo the module.
Step 2: Place the module to the chassis and use sc ew to fix the module fo m side wall and
slot f ame.
Step 3: Push the tag and pull out the t ay to populate the SSD, and put back to finish the
installation

2.2 Removing and placing Top Cove
2.2.1 Removing Top Cove
Step 1: Release the sc ew on the back-end of cove , and p ess inwa d the blue buttons then push
backwa d the top cove .
Step 2: Lift the top cove to emove.
2.2.2 Placing Top Cove
Step 3: To place the top cove , place the cove on to the chassis, and make su e the wedges a e in
the ight location.
Step 4: Push fo wa d the cove and make su e the clip clicks, then sc ew up to fix the cove .
2.3 Removing and Installing the fan wall
The fan module of IW-RS424-02M is flexible which you can move fo wa d o backwa d to
optimize the cooling efficiency. Removing the fan wall befo e posting the mothe boa d to get
mo e space fo the p ocessing. Afte the mothe boa d and components a e installed, using the
b acket to o ganize the cable sets.
2.3.1 Removing a fan wall
Step 1: Unplug the fans’ powe cable and emove the fan units
Step 2: Loosen the thumb sc ew and lift the fan wall f om the chassis

2.4 Removing and Installing a PSU
In Win IW-RS424-02M suppo ts single and edundant powe supply unit. Use s can select powe
supply acco ding to the envi onment’s equi ements.
Note: The different PSU needs different rear and side bracket. The accessory box includes the
bracket sets for supporting odels.
2.4.1 Installing Redundant PSU
Step 1: Unsc ew and emove the ea f ame at the ea ight position of the chassis.
Step 2: Measu e the length of the PSU housing case, and post the ea b acket to the chassis.
Step 3: Mount the side b acket to the PSU housing case and fix with flat-head sc ew f om the
accesso y box.
Step 4: Use sc ews f om the accesso y box to fix the PSU housing case.
Step 5: Inse t the PSU modules and push the modules to the end until hea ing a click.

2.5 Installing a Slide Rail
In Win IW-RS424-02M is a ackmount model, which suppo t EIA-RS310D standa d cabinet and
chassis ack. In Win p ovides standa d slide ail to let use s mount the chassis on to the cabinet.
2.5.1 Identifying the sections of the Slide Rail
2.5.2 Installing a Slide Rail
Step 1: Release the inne ail f om the slide
Step 2: Mount the inne ails onto the chassis by the di ection which the a ows show.
Step 3: Install the oute ails and the b ackets onto the ack.

2.5.3 Mount the chassis onto the cabinet
Step1: Make su e the ball bea ing etaine is at the fo ef ont.
Step2: Inse t the inne ail to the oute ail which has al eady locked up on the cabinet.
Step3: Mount the inne ail onto the chassis by the di ection which the a ows show on the
image.
Step4: Pull up the plastic chip on the chassis’ handles, and tighten the thumb sc ews to fix the
chassis

2.6 Installing Mothe boa d
Befo e installing the mothe boa d, please find the IO shield fo m you mothe boa d package, and
install it to the system IO window 1.2.2 shows. If you cannot find the IO shield, please check with
you mothe boa d vendo , o contact In Win fo IO shield OEM se vice.
Step 1: Measu e the mothe boa d location and emoving the plastic dots to appea the holes.
Step 2: Install the steel pilla s, which you can find in the accesso ies box to the holes matching
the mothe boa d’s mounting holes, you may use a flathead sc ew d ive .
Step 3: Place the mothe boa d down to the chassis, and make su e the pilla s’ th eaded holes a e
matching the mounting holes on the mothe boa d.
Step 4: Use hex sc ews f om the accesso ies box to fix the mothe boa d in the chassis.

2.7 Connection Cable
2.2.1 Connecting backplane th ough SAS connecto s
In Win IW-RS424-02M needs SAS cable connecting the backplane and you mothe boa d o
RAID cont olle . In Win p ovides ve ified SAS cable fo installation, please contact In Win
local pa tne s and sales to get mo e info mation.
2.7.2 Connecting LED cable, f ont cont ol panel and f ont USB IO po ts
As 1.2.1 desc ipts, In Win IW-RS-02M built-in a set of f ont cont ol panel and USB access
po ts. You need to cove the connecto s to the pins on the mothe boa d to active the
functions. The pin function and location you can find f om you mothe boa d’s use guide.

components f om In Win’s compatibility list. All the components a e tested in In Win’s lab and assu ed
the components a e wo king well with In Win’s chassis.

a. What are the function of backplane?
A: The backplane is the b idge which connects the ha d d ives and expo t the signal to the
mothe boa d. Also, backplane p ovides the LED signals indicating the status of the ha d d ives, and
ala ming when the system tempe atu e is abno mal.
b. Does backplane supports 6Gb SAS?
A: In Win IW-RSXXX-02M in default is with 12Gb SAS backplane. The 12Gb SAS connecto is not
alignment with 6Gb SAS. In Win p ovides OEM/ODM se vice, use can contact In Win sales fo
customization.
c. Does the chassis support 3.5”, 2.5”, SAS and SATA drive? Can I ix the different type of drives in
an enclosure?
A: In Win IW-RSXXX-02M suppo ts both 3.5” and 2.5” fo m facto ’s SAS/SATA disks. It allows diffe ent
types of disks wo k togethe in an enclosu e. Yet, to each the best pe fo mance, we ecommend
following the mothe boa d o RAID cont olle vendo s’ inst uction deploying you ha d d ives to each
the best pe fo mance.
d. Does the chassis support flash drive?
Any SSD suppo ts SAS o SATA connection can be attached to the In Win IW-RSXXX-02M, but bewa e
the NVMe SSD is not suppo ted. We ecommend efe encing In Win’s compatibility list to check if you
SSD is listed, o efe encing the info mation to pu chase SSD.
e. If I don’t need the front cover, can I have the standard handle?
In Win IW-RSXXX-02M suppo ts both standa d handle and bezel handle. If you would like you chassis
with standa d metal handle, please contact you local eselle to pu chase the bezel package fo
eplacement.

f. Do the chassis support irrored OS disks?
In Win IW-RSXXX-02M models suppo ts at least 2 inte nal disks, RS424-02M and RS424-02M have built-
in 2bay hot swap module. Yet, the disk mi o ing is defined by you mothe boa d o you RAID 1
cont olle ca d. You may check the vendo ’s guide to mi o you OS disks.
g. Can it support s all for factor MB such as M-ATX and Mini-ITX?
In Win IW-RSXXX-02M suppo ts mothe boa d ange f om Mini-ITX to EEB. Unless you would like to
mount a customized mothe boa d which not meet Intel’s standa d, you will need to contact In Win
pa tne s o sales fo customization se vice.
h. Do I need a RAID controller card to connect the backplane?
If you would like to const uct a solid ha dwa e RAID system, it is equi ed. Howeve , using the RAID
cont olle ca d o not, is depends on you pu pose and budget. We ecommend discussing with In
Win’s channel pa tne fo thei suggestions.
i. Where can I buy the SAS cable?
6Gb SAS to 4 SATA o 6Gb SAS to 6Gb SAS a e standa d cable that you easily buy f om many vendo s.
You can buy the ve ified cable f om In Win to eliminate the compatibility issues.
