PREFACE
Thank you for hoosing InWin IW-RS118-03. This manual is written for system te hni ians who are
responsible for installation, troubleshooting, managing, and repairing this server hassis. This
do ument provides the overview of all the features of the hassis, a list of a essories or other
omponents you may need to finish the installation, troubleshooting methods, and instru tions of
adding and removing omponents on the InWin IW- R118-03. For the latest version of this manual, you
may visit InWin’s server website to download the latest updated version.
SAFETY INFORMATION
To ensure safe and smooth operation of your InWin IW- RS118-03, it is essential that you hoose an
appropriate lo ation for the system, provide an appropriate operating environment, and adequate
power for all omponents of the system. As you plan for installation, follow the guidelines below to
ensure that the system and its environment are safely and appropriately positioned for effi ient
operation and servi e. Your system should be installed and servi ed only by te hni ally qualified
persons.
Environment selection: The system is designed to operate in a typi al offi e environment. The lo ation
should be a lean, dry, and free of airborne parti les; a well-ventilated room and away from sour es of
heat in luding dire t sunlight and radiators; it should keep the sour es of vibration or physi al sho k
away; the spa e should be with a properly grounded wall outlet, and with suffi ient spa e to a ess the
power supply ords. The operation environment temperature should be around 0°C to 40°C (32°F to
104°F).
Heed safety instructions: Before working with InWin IPC/Storage server/ System produ ts, we strongly
re ommend you are using this guide as a referen e and follow the safety instru tions. The instru tions
in this manual will help you ensure and maintain omplian e with existing produ t ertifi ations and
approvals. Follow the des ribed, regulated omponents mentioned in this manual. Use of non UL
listing produ ts or other regulatory did not approvals will make non- omplian e with produ t
regulations in the region(s) in whi h the produ t is sold.
System power on/off: The power button DOES NOT totally turn off the system AC power. To remove
the power of system, you have to unplug the AC power ord from the outlet or system’s power supply
units. Make sure the power ord is unplugged before you open the hassis, add, or remove any
omponents.

Hazardous conditions, devices and cables: Hazardous ele tri al onditions usually present on power
supply units, and ommuni ation ables. Dis onne t the power ord, and any other devi e whi h
atta hed to the server before opening the ase. Otherwise, it will raise the risk of personal injury or
equipment damage.
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) and ESD protection: In most ases, ESD damages disk drives, ele troni
boards, and other parts. We re ommend that you work the installation only at an ESD free spa e. If the
situation does not allow, perform ESD prote tion a tions by wearing an anti-stati wrist strap atta hed
to ground any unpainted metal surfa e on your server during your operation.
Installing or removing jumpers: A jumper is a short length of ondu tor used to lose, open or bypass
part of an ele troni ir uit. Jumpers on InWin ba kplane have a small tab on top that you an pi k up
with your fingertips. Grip the jumper arefully, and plug the jumper to over the jumper pins on the
ba kplane. On e you need to remove the jumper, gripping the jumper, and arefully pull out without
squeezing.
CAUTION
To avoid damage and prove your safety, please noti e and following the terms listed below:
1. No to populate hard drives and turn on the power before the system is settle down.
2. Tighten or loosen all the s rews, please use s rew driver to operate.
3. Apply the orre t s rews whi h pa ked in the a essories box.
4. For your safety, it requires at least two persons lift, and pla e the unit.
5. Before mounting the unit to the abinet, make sure the rail is installed orre tly.
6. When installing and removing any module or parts, please operate by the handles.

2Hardware Installation
2.1 Removing and Installing a Hard Drive
InWin IW-RS118-03 has 18 external hot-swap disk bays whi h support 2.5” 7mm SSDs. Also,
IW-RS118-03 supports 2 internal 2.5” hard drives or SSDs for building system OS.
2.1.1 Installing a Hard Drive
Step 1: Press the release button; then pull outward the disk tray.
Step 2: Release and pull the tray handle upward. Pla e the 2.5'' (7mm) hard drive into the
tray, and then push the tray handle to fix the hard drive.
Step 3: Push the tray ba k to the disk bay, and push ba k the lever until you hear “ li k”

2.1.2 Removing a Hard Drive
Step 1: Press the release button; then pull outward the disk tray.
Step 2: Release and pull the tray handle outward. Take out the 2.5'' (7mm) hard drive from
the tray, and then push the tray handle ba k.

2.2 Removing and Placing Top Cover
Step 1: Loosen the s rews on the top over; then push ba kward the top over.
Step 2: Lift the top over to remove.
Step 3: To pla e the top over, pla e the over on to the hassis, and make sure the guide pins of
the rear window are in the right lo ation. Then fix the over with s rews.

2.3 Removing and Installing the Internal 2.5” SSD (7mm) for OS
Step 1: Open the top over (Refer to 2.2)
Step 2: Remove the OS bra ket from the hassis and fix the 2.5” hard drives into OS bra ket with
s rews.
Step 3: Tighten the OS HDD bra ket on the hassis with s rews.

2.4 Removing and Installing the Fan
IW-RS118-03’s built-in fan modules feature a tool-less design whi h makes it easy to maintain.
2.4.1 Removing the Fan
Step 1: Unplug the fan’s power able on the ba kplane.
Step 2: Press the plasti tab above the white fan holder and push the fan up.

2.4.2 Installing the Fan
Step 1: Align the two hooks under the white fan holder with the bla k holes under the fan wall
position.
Step 2: Press the plasti tab above the white fan holder while the fan is pressing down to the fan
wall until you hear li ks.

2.5 Removing and Installing the PSU
InWin IW-RS118-03 supports single and redundant power supply unit. Users an sele t power supply
a ording to the environment’s requirements.
Note: The different PSU needs different rear and side bracket. The accessory box includes the
bracket sets for supporting models.

2.5.1 Removing the Redundant PSU Module
Step 1: Press the release tab of the power supply unit’s module at the ba k.

2.5.2 Installing the Redundant PSU Module
Step 1: Make sure the label is fa ing upward, and push the power supply module into the
age until you hear a li k.
NOTE: 1. The unit supports InWin PSU modules only, please do not attempt to insert any other
brands of modules.
. The two PSU modules’ output wattage must be the same.
2.6 Installing a Slide Rail
InWin IW-RS118-03 is a ra kmount model, whi h supports EIA-RS310D standard abinet and
hassis ra k. InWin provides standard slide rail to let users mount the hassis on to the abinet.
2.6.1 Identifying the se tions of the Slide Rail

Step 2: Mount the inner rails onto the hassis by the dire tion whi h the arrows show.
Step 3: Install the outer rails and the bra kets onto the ra k.
2.6.3 Mount the Chassis onto the Cabinet
Step1: Make sure the ball bearing retainer is at the forefront.
Step2: Insert the inner rail to the outer rail whi h has already lo ked up on the abinet.
Step3: Mount the inner rail onto the hassis by the dire tion whi h the arrows show on the
image.

Step4: Tighten the thumb s rews to fix the hassis.
2.7 Installing Motherboard
Before installing the motherboard, please find the IO shield form your motherboard pa kage,
and install it to the system IO window 1.2.2 shows. If you annot find the IO shield, please
he k with your motherboard vendor, or onta t InWin for IO shield OEM servi e.
Step 1: Measure the motherboard lo ation and removing the plasti dots to appear the holes.
Step 2: Install the steel pillars, whi h you an find in the a essories box to the holes mat hing
the motherboard’s mounting holes, you may use a flathead s rew driver.
Step 3: Pla e the motherboard down to the hassis, and make sure the pillars’ threaded holes are
mat hing the mounting holes on the motherboard.
Step 4: Use hex s rews from the a essories box to fix the motherboard in the hassis.
