CellDisk™ is a removable, portable, flash memory based data storage device
that works via your computer’s Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. CellDisk
does not require a battery or any external power because the CellDisk uses the
power supplied by the computer or USB device it is plugged into. CellDisk works
with your computer’s plug-and-play system, for most operating systems, once it
is plugged into the USB port of your computer. It is ideal for mobile professionals,
or for anyone with a need to move data frequently and conveniently between
devices or networks, since it is very small and lightweight. Through
SecureCell(TM) Utility, you can make CellDisk security-enabled. The Security
feature is currently compatible with Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, ME,
98 and 98SE.

CellDisk™ FAQs
Q. What is CellDisk?
A. CellDisk™ is a compact, removable, portable, flash memory based data
storage device that works via your computer’s Universal Serial Bus (USB)
interface. CellDisk does not require a battery or any external power because the
CellDisk uses the power supplied by the computer or USB device it is plugged
into. You can store and read files of any type in CellDisk, and then transport
them to any other computer that has a USB interface.
Q. What can I use CellDisk for?
A. CellDisk can substitute conventional storage devices because of its
convenience, portability, flexibility and reliability. CellDisk replaces the floppy disk,
zip, or CD for your laptop or your desktop computer. CellDisk is reliable because
it is shockproof, small, and there are no moving parts inside. It conveniently
stores and transfers data, such as audio and video files. You can also carry files,
which are too big to transfer or are highly confidential.
Q. How long can I use CellDisk?
A. The lifetime of CellDisk is related with the expected lifespan of flash memory.
Like all semiconductor technology, flash memory has no moving parts and is
expected to last for many years.
Q. What operating systemsdoes CellDisk work with?
A. CellDisk works with Microsoft Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP, Mac and Linux.
Q. Does CellDisk work for Windows NT?
A. No. Windows NT does not support mass storage devices that use USB
interface.
Q. Does CellDisk need the driver to be installed?
A. You need to install the driver only for Microsoft Windows 98/98SE, because it
does not support mass storage device completely. You need not to install any
driver for other Windows systems, Mac, and Linux.
Q. How fast is CellDisk?
A. As CellDisk uses adapting flash memory, its internal speed is very fast. But,
because the current USB specification, version 1.1, only supports up to 12

17
Mbps, CellDisk supports about 900KB/sec for reading and 500KB/sec for writing.
Q. How many CellDiskscan be connected at the same time?
A. Theoretically, you can connect up to 127 CellDisks to a computer at the same
time. If your computer is lack of available USB ports, you can expand the number
of available ports by using a USB hub.
Q. Can CellDisk be used as a bootable disk?
A. Yes, it is possible with BIOS computer support.
QWhat is the function of the LED on the CellDisk?
A. When CellDisk is first plugged into the USB port of your computer, the
CellDisk LED turns on and off. This means that your computer has recognized
your CellDisk. During a file transfer, your CellDisk LED will flash. Do not unplug
the CellDisk during a file transfer. Doing so may cause corruption of the data
being transferred, or cause corruption of the FAT table of your CellDisk. If the
FAT table is corrupted, the CellDisk can go back to its original working condition
by formatting it; however, your data will be lost.
Q. After data has finished transferring from my computer to my CellDisk,
the LED still flashes. Why?
A. A computer finishes data transfer from the CPU to the built-in buffer memory.
In this case, the computer thinks that the data transfer has finished; however, it
takes more time to transfer data from the buffer to the CellDisk. This causes the
LED to continue flashing. Please do not unplug the CellDisk while the LED is
flashing. This may damage your data or your CellDisk FAT table.
Q. Is it possible to share the CellDisk through your network or LAN
connection?
A. Yes.
Q. I do not have any driver CD-ROM. What can I do?
A. Go to the www.celldisk.com website and download and install the driver
installation program.
Q. My computer does not recognize CellDisk.
A. Click Start Settings Control Panel System and select Device Manager tab.
Then check whether your computer has a USB controller.

18
When your computer has a USB controller:
If CellDisk is configured as an unknown device, remove it by clicking [Remove]
and install the driver again.
If CellDisk is not configured as an unknown device, re-install the driver using
the New Hardware Installation applet.
Q. I plugged CellDisk into the USB port of my computer. But I still cannot
find the "removable disk" icon from My Computer or Windows Explorer.
A. Please unplug CellDisk and plug again. If your operating system is Microsoft
Windows 98/98SE, ensure that you have correctly installed the driver.
Q. I have deleted data from CellDisk by chance. What can I do?
A. CellDisk operates the same way as a hard disk drive. You can not recover the
data once it has been deleted.
Q. CellDisk is soaked in water. What can I do?
A. Please dry CellDisk completely prior to plugging it again. If you use CellDisk
while it is wet, the internal circuitry of CellDisk may malfunction, and thus not
operate correctly.
Q. Bad sectors have been found in CellDisk. How can I fix them?
A. The manufactures of flash memory used in CellDisk only deliver the flash
memory that has less than 2% bad sector. Sometimes, bad sectors can be
generated during using CellDisk. To remove bad sectors, download
SecureCell™Utility from www.celldisk.com website and format your CellDisk
using it.
Q. I want to use CellDisk in other computers but I do not have the driver
installation CD.
A. The best advantage of CellDisk is that it supports 'hot-plug' for Microsoft
Windows ME/2000/XP, MAC 9.0 or higher, Linux 2.4.0 or higher. It means that
you need not to install any driver if the operating system is one of those. Just
plug your CellDisk to the USB port of the desired computer. If you are using
Microsoft Windows 98/98SE, you need to install the driver. For the driver,
please download the installation program from www.celldisk.com.
Q. Can I print files directly from CellDisk?
A. Yes. Open the file from CellDisk using an application program, like Microsoft

19
Word, prior to printing it, and then use the printing mechanism of that application.
Q. My computer locks once CellDisk is plugged into the USB port.
A. Please remove CellDisk and restart your computer. After the booting is
finished completely, plug CellDisk again into the USB port.
Q. Can CellDisk be infected by computer virus?
A. Since CellDisk is a mass storage device, it can be infected by a computer
virus. Once your CellDisk has been infected by a computer virus, you can cure it
using the corresponding vaccine program.
Q. I want to change the name of "Removable Disk" given to CellDisk.
A. You can change the name any time during using your CellDisk if it has been
properly installed. Once CellDisk has been renamed, the new name will always
appear, until you rename it again.
Q. Using the SecureCell Utility, what is my first or default password?
A. After successfully installing the SecureCell™ Utility application, your default
password will be 1111. We recommend changing your default password
immediately.
Q. Is it easy to modify my password?
A. Yes. By using the SecureCell™ Utility application, you can modify your
password anytime in four easy steps as outlined in the Using the SecureCell™
Utility section.
Q. What can I do if I lose my password?
A. If you lose your password, you will not be able to access your CellDisk™ as it
is in “secure mode”. In this case, you can download the file named
SecureCell.zip from the CellDisk™ web site at www.celldisk.com, or you can use
the SecureCell™Utility in CD-ROM. Once downloaded, please refer to
installation steps as outlined in the SecureCell™ Utility section.
CAUTION: After restoring your CellDisk™ using this method, your original
data files will be permanently erased.
Q. Can I password protect each file or folder individually within my
CellDisk™, using the SecureCell™ Utility application?
A. We currently do not support that type of functionality. However, you may use

20
a third-party utility program to secure individual files and folders prior to saving
them to your CellDisk™.
Q. Can I set a password for the files to be saved in CellDisk?
A. Every word processing program supports a password function for the file to
prevent any unauthorized access to the documents. Once you set a password,
other people cannot open the file.
Q. I formatted CellDisk for the NTFS file system. Can it be used in other
operating system?
A. Microsoft Windows 98, 98SE and ME does not recognize the NTFS file
system. If you want your CellDisk compatible for all operating systems, format
it for FATbecause all listed operating systemssupport it.
If you encounter any technical problems or the product is damaged,
refer to the FAQ on our website or please contact our service team.
