contract catering companies. Based on the collected food waste data, targeted measures can be taken to
reduce the amount of waste.
Contents of the sales package

•Android tablet
•Power supply for the Android tablet
•Tablet accessories: SIM-card and a stand
Cautions
•ioLiving WasteScale operates with mains current (AC 100-240V).
•Do not use other power supplies than those provided in the sales package.
•Pay attention to the maximum capacity of the WasteScale. The load on the scale must not exceed
the maximum load (35 or 150 kg depending on the scale model) under any circumstances.
•Do not immerse the scale in water or other liquids.
•The scale is splashproof. Use a damp cloth and detergent for cleaning.
Deploying the ioLiving WasteScale
•Place the scale on a flat surface. The flatness and slope must not differ more than
1.5 cm per 100 cm.
•The scale must be placed in location where it will not be exposed to large temperature changes.
•The scale operates on mains power. Make sure that both the scale and the tablet are powered at the
planned location.
•The scale must be activated in ioLiving service.
•The waste categories and items must be created in ioLiving service before using the scale.
Preconditions
The use of ioLiving WasteScale requires purchasing the FoodWasteTracker or HACCP for commercial
kitchen service.
1. Activate the WasteScale to your ioLiving account. From the “Device Settings” menu, select
“Measurement Devices” and “Add new device”.
2. Create the waste categories and items in ioLiving service. See the more detailed instructions in
FoodWasteTracker general guide (smartkitchen.solutions/support)
Device installation
1. Place the scale on a flat surface. Make sure it does not touch the wall or other structures on the
sides. It is recommended that the scale is positioned so that the power cord and power indicator

5. The accessory stand allows the tablet to be mounted on a tabletop or wall.
6. Turn on the scale by plugging in the power supply. The green LED on the side of the scale lights up
when the device is ready for operation.
7. Open the “WasteScale” app from the tablet desktop and sign in with your ioLiving credentials.
8. Select the correct scale from the settings in the application menu (if there are other scales activated
in the account).
9. If the scale does not show 0.000 kg, tare it from the application menu.
Using instructions
The WasteScale is intended to be used as follows:
•The scale and tablet must be always connected to the mains.
•If the app has shut down, select the "WasteScale" application from the tablet desktop to restart it.
•If the Scale and tablet are turned off and the power supply is disconnected, the scale must be
restarted by plugging the power supply back into the electrical outlet.
•Restart the tablet with its power button. The scale does not have a separate power switch.
Making a waste measurement with the WasteScale
1. Place the waste item to be weighed in a container on the scale.
2. The weight of the waste item and waste categories created previously in the service will appear on
the tablet screen.
3. Select a correct waste category.
4. Select a correct waste item.
5. The measurement result is stored in the ioLiving cloud service. The ✓symbol appears on the screen
when the measurement has been saved successfully.
6. When the symbol disappears from the display, the scale is ready for the next waste measurement.
7. Tare the scale if necessary. Note that automatic tare will occur within 30 seconds if no selections are
made.
8. A warning appears on the display when the maximum load of the scale is being reached. Empty the
waste container.
Calibrating the ioLiving WasteScale
The WasteScale is calibrated if its measurement results are suspected to deviate significantly from the
correct value. Calibration is a procedure that should only be performed for a valid reason, not just for
certainty.
Deviation of the scale measurement results may occur if the measurement is made at a significantly higher
or lower temperature than the room temperature. The deviation may also occur over a longer period during
normal use. The using frequency of the scale is also notable. If the scale is used continuously, its deviation
may increase faster than the scale used occasionally. Dropping the scale or dropping the load on the scale
may also cause the need for calibration. Likewise, exposing the device to vibration.

First, confirm the need for calibration by weighing a suitable object with another, accurate and calibrated
scale. Check the deviation of the WasteScale by weighing this object before starting the calibration. The
scale must be switched on for at least half an hour before starting the calibration.
The WasteScale application guides the user through the calibration process:
1. Log in to the WasteScale app. Make sure the tablet you are using has internet connection and
Bluetooth is turned on. Make sure the scale has been on for at least 30 minutes.
2. Select “Start Calibration” from the application menu and follow the on-screen instructions:
•Attention! You are about to start calibration
WasteScale should only be calibrated if its measurement results are suspected to deviate
significantly from the correct values.
•Clear scale
Make sure that the scale is empty.
•Set weight
Set the known weight on the scale.
•Define weight
Enter the exact weight of the calibration object.
•Calibration complete
Verify the calibration by weighting the same amount that was used to calibrate the scale.
Solutions to the most common problems
1. The scale shows incorrect measurement result for a known weight.
Solution: Remove the weight and tare the scale from the application menu.
2. The scale still shows incorrect measurement result.
Solution: Check that there is no debris, stones, etc. under the device that interfere with the
measurement. Check that all three feet of the scale touch the floor. Check that the scale is removed
from the wall and other structures. Check that there have been no significant changes in the
ambient temperature of the scale.
3. Nothing appears on the tablet screen and it does not start.
Solution: Check that the tablet is plugged in to the power supply and restart if necessary.
4. The scale’s power indicator LED is not on.
Solution: Check that the scale is connected to the power supply and reconnect if necessary.
5. Tablet is not showing the waste weight.
Solution: Make sure your tablet's Bluetooth is turned on.
6. The waste weighing results are not transferred into the ioLiving service.
Solution: Check the tablet’s internet connection.
7. The changes made in the service (waste categories, waste items) are not visible in the application.
Solution: Close and restart the WasteScale application.
Attention! Changes made in the service (categories, titles, etc.) will apply with a delay. To get the changes
immediately in use, restart the application.
