CATS-01
Scanner
Scanner is inten e to monitor RF communication with respect to RF channels. See IQRF OS User's gui e for more
information about isplaye parameters.
Scanner main screen
Activity in in ivi ual channels an parameters of RF signal in selecte channel are monitore . All 62 channels (0 to 61) of
868 MHz ban can be monitore at the same time but 186 channels of the 916 MHz ban must be separate to three
groups an the user selects just one of them to be scanne an currently isplaye .
A itionally, selecte group can be re uce by the user. Channels are scanne one by one. Scanning of one channel
takes about 0.4 ms. Thus, to get higher resolution, number of scanne channels can be re uce by Low/High channel
limits. See Scanner settings.
The screen is separate to following parts:
•RF activity in in ivi ual channels (1). The following information is isplaye :
•Whether a communication is running in in ivi ual channels. Active channels are isplaye by bars.
•Signal strength (current as well as the maximal etecte one). Heights of bars are proportional to signal strengths.
•Dark blue Current RSSI in the channel
•Light blue Max. RSSI etecte in the channel
•Dark re Current RSSI in currently selecte channel
•Light re Max. RSSI etecte in currently selecte channel
•Black horizontal line RF level efining minimal incoming signal strength to be etecte . See RF filter.
•Re vertical line Currently selecte channel
•Details about currently selecte channel (2).
•RF Ban Selecte RF ban
•Channel Selecte RF channel
•RF Filter Specifie RF level to filter incoming signal.
•RSSI Current RSSI value in selecte channel.
•Max. RSSI Maximal RSSI value etecte in selecte channel
•Scan CH Selecte group of scanne channels (3)
•Area with four control buttons (4):
•"<" an ">" Channel selection (to isplay etails)
•Clr To clear Max. RSSI values scanne an isplaye up to now. The same can be achieve
by ouble click to the fiel (1).
•Set Switch to the Scanner settings screen for setting of scanning parameters.

CATS-01
Scanner settings
The following parameters can be selecte here:
•Low channel limit (1) Channels with lower numbers will be not monitore
•High channel limit (2) Channels with higher numbers will be not monitore
•RF Filter (3) RF level to filter incoming signal (0 to 64). Weaker signals are ignore .
•Select channel Channel for isplaying etails (from Lo channel limit to High channel limit)
•Ch (4) RF ban an group of channels
•channels 0 to 61 for 868 MHz
•channels 0 to 61, 62 to 123 or 124 to 185 for 916 MHz
Typical usage of the Scanner
Watching activity in a channel
To evaluate a specifie channel (e.g. to eci e whether it is suitable for current communication in given network), re uce
scanne channels for about ± 5 channels aroun .
Choosing a free channel
To choose a free channel (before a network installation etc.), let the Scanner run for an appropriate time an watch Max.
RSSI (the light blue bars) then.
Hints for I MESH design
Experience from usage of CATS-01 scanner can be utilize for esign of user IQRF applications. To manage channels
effectively either in point-to-point or in IQMESH applications, scanning metho s escribe here can be applie in TR
mo ules by users. Robust communication shoul be esigne to allow switching RF channels with respect to current RF
traffic an noise.
Example – scanning channels in an infinite loop
...
i = 0;
while(1)
{
clrwdt();
setRFchannel(i);
if (checkRF(RF_FILTER)) // I nore si nals with lower level
{
pulseLEDR(); // LED flash if a si nal is detected in the channel
}
++i;
if (i > 61)
i = 0;
}

Firmware upgrade
CATS-01 firmware can be upgra e by the user with a new version release by the manufacturer. To accomplish this,
follow the steps below:
•Downloa a new firmware version (the wapl_fw.hex file) from the pro uct web page.
•Connect CATS-01 to PC via micro USB cable. Internal SD car shoul be etecte as a isk unit.
•Copy the firmware to the SD car to the GWSYSTEM irectory. The file name must remain unchange .
•Disconnect CATS-01 from the PC an reset the evice. New FW shoul be etecte an upgra e automatically.
Functionality extension
CATS-01 is esigne to support various functionality epen ing on the license. Thus, if there are any optional parts in
given firmware available it is possible to make it accessible by exten ing the license keys.
To accomplish this, follow the steps below:
•Ask the manufacturer for license keys to chosen option for your evice (specifie by the MAC a ress).
•Connect CATS-01 to PC via micro USB cable. Internal SD car shoul be etecte as a isk unit.
•Copy the license keys to the SD car to the GWSYSTEM irectory.
•Disconnect CATS-01 from the PC an reset the evice. New functionality shoul be ma e accessible automatically.
