The designof your phone complies with these standards when used as
described under “Phone Operation” on page38.
This product is compliant with Industry Canada RSS-102 for RF Exposure.
Refer to “SpecicAbsorption Rate Data” on pages 4-5.
SpecicAbsorption Rate Data
This Iridium Extreme™ meets international standards for exposure to radio
waves.

2: Safety
Iridium Extreme™ User Manual 5
Your satellite phone is designed and manufactured not to exceed limits
for exposure to radio frequency (RF) energy. These limits are part of
comprehensiveguidelines and established permitted levelsof RF energy
for the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that
were developed by independent scienticorganizations throughperiodic
and thoroughevaluation of scienticstudies. The guidelines include a
substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons,
regardless of ageand health.
The exposure standard for mobilephones employsaunit of measurement
knownas the SpecicAbsorption Rate, or SAR.Under the guidelines
for this model, the SAR limit is 1.6 W/Kg.Tests for SAR were conducted
in accordance with the European Committee for Electrotechnical
Standardization (CENELEC) and FCC testing procedures using standard
operating positions with the phone transmitting at its highest certied
power level in all tested frequency bands. Althoughthe SAR is determined
at the highest certied power level, the actual SAR of the phone while
operating can bebelow the maximum value. Before aphone model is
availablefor saleto the public, it is tested to conrm compliance with
the guidelines. The tests are performed in positions and locations (e.g.,
at the ear and worn on the body) that conform to auniform testing
methodology determined by an expert standards body.
The highest SAR level recorded from this product was 1.27 W/Kg which
was below the uncontrolled (i.e., general population) limit. Whilethere
may bedierences between the SAR levelsof various phones and at
various positions, they all meet the governmental requirements.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded in May,
2011 that that there is limited evidence to suggest apossiblelink between
RF signalsand twospecictypes of cancer. The IARC’sconclusion is based
on its review of existing studies and information.
The FCC and FDA, however, indicated that there is not sucient scientic
evidence to support alink between wireless device use and cancer and
that use of wireless phones according to current regulations is safe.
