The device, connected and used in accordance with following instructions, is safe to use.
All electrical parts are protected against water, dust and dirt by the relevant IP class.
Housing prevents direct contact with any parts under voltage.

1. 2. Fire-extinguishing Gear
In case of fire use CO

based fire extinguisher and other equipment following procedures
in accordance with fire-safety regulations.
1. 3. Safety Precautions
Safety precautions are meant to provide personal safety and long service life of device.
Any person take part of mounting, connecting or maintenance of the device must follow
this manual and local safety regulations. They have to be qualified for the job and use
appropriate technical equipment.
Before starting:
Disconnect circuit breakers at input and output of the device and make
sure there is no voltage present.
Make sure power is disconnected during the time of mounting and
connecting.
Check the voltage presence with an instrument.
Check grounding connection.
Provide protection against touching the parts under voltage.
Qualified Personnel
Transport, mounting, connecting, commissioning and maintenance of the device can
only be preformed by personnel:
with job qualification and experience,
familiar with up to date safety standards and
with knowledge of basic working principles of the device.
Responsibility
We take no responsibility for proper operation and any consequences resulting from use
in discordance with this manual. Safety measures must be provided by user working with

2. Guideline for Connection and Use of Photometer
2. 1. Field of Use
Photometer is designed for measuring and regulating illumination in traffic areas. Using it
we can provide adequate road ilumination at any time and any light conditions. It's
primary application is illumination control for tunnels and under passes based on L
20
measurement according to CIE standard. Photometer FM-1 is provided with analogue
U/I output for PLC or tunnel SCADA connection. For local illumination control 4-channel
230
V
AC programmable outputs are available. Measuring range, output channel
switching and time averaging interval are PC programmable using software provided.
2. 2. Mounting and Placement
Photometer comes with wall fixture. Pole fixture is also available
(optional)
.
For light conditions measuring at the entrance of the tunnel, install the photometer at the
stopping distance before the entrance portal. It should be mounted at height approx.
4,5 m and pointed directly to the entrance of the tunnel. When mounting on the pole,
make shure, the pole has proper grounding!
For in-tunnel light conditions measuring
(allways choose full stainless-steel-housing option)
, the
photometer should be pointed to the spot one reach in 3 seconds at maximum allowed
speed. In this case the driver’s view cannot be simulated very accurately due to
mounting height versus distance, hence the measuring result must be adopted by
multiplying with a constant
(usually between 1.05 and 1.20)
.
Once mounted, undisturbed view field must be provided for the photometer. There
should be no disturbing objects, either any light sources or light reflecting objects in it's
view field vicinity. Any of these can considerably affect the measuring accuracy.
2. 3. Connections
Photometer is connected to the mains power supply 230 V AC and to the tunnel light
controlling system. Cables with 3-7 leads at minimum 0.75 mm
2
must be used for 230 V AC
power supply and contactor outputs. For analogue U/I output and communication coaxial 2-3
lead data cable is recommended. Maximum connection distance is up to 400 metres. For
parametric setup connect the photometer with personal computer and run software.
Connection distance can be up to 20 metres for RS-232
(200 m for RS-485 –optional)
.
All necessary connectors are accessible by removing rear cover (
see Pictures 1, 2and Table 1
).
After final connection and successful commission tighten well all cable glands and place
provided desiccant bag in the photometer housing pushing it towards front window. Make
sure it is not touching any electrical part!

2. 4. Onboard Indicators
Beside connectors there are LED indicators on the PCB board (seePicture 1). They indicate
current light conditions (green) and contactor output status (red).
2. 4. 1. Use of 230 V AC Contactor Outputs
Those outputs can be connected directly to the coil-side of the light-chain switching
contactors (check contactor’s coil voltage to be 230 V!). Use provided software to distribute
switching combinations according to the light conditions. Example isshown at Table 2 and at
Picture 4.

Four green LEDs indicate light-level switch combination (no averaging applied) regarding to
current light condition. For example : When light conditions are below the level set for L1,
first LED 1 is lit , when between L1 and L2 second LED 2 is lit, then LED 2 and LED 3 is lit,
etc. Red LEDs indicate the same light conditions and current status of 230 VAC outputs with
averaging applied.
Light levels, output combinations and moving-average interval are software adjustable (refer
to PC software).
2. 4. 2. Use of U/I Analog Outputs
Analogue outputs directly follow current light conditions (no averaging is applied). There are
two outputs for this purpose: voltage (0-10 V) and current (4-20 mA). Simultaneous use of
both is not recommended and can affect accuracy. 230 V AC contactor outputs can be used
at the same time with no affect to accuracy. (For example: tunnel lighting can be switched
on/off by using contactor outputs while light conditions are monitored via analog outputs
connected to SCADA). For distance over 100 metres use of I-current output is preferred. For
brightness calculation use following equations:

NOTE:
Use of individualcalibration constants is always preferred for best accuracy.
When using analog outputs “fix-range” option MUST be chosen when programming (see PC
software) and relevant range applied in equations!
Calibration constants are placed on thecalibration sticker at the side of photometer.
2. 5. Calibration
Each photometer is individually factory calibrated after production. First and last calibration
date and calibration constants are stored in photometer’s memoryand can be read using PC
program. They are also visible on the calibration sticker at the side of the photometer.
Recommended recalibration interval is 3 years.

3. PC Software »Street Light Vision«
PC software “Street Light Vision ” is used to configure and monitor photometer’s working
parameters. Install the software to any folder on the computer running MS Windows 2000 or
higher. By clicking Street Light Vision icon window like Picture 3 appears.

The “System settings” button is used for factory calibration and testing. It has no
meaning for the user.

3. 1. Setting up PC Communication
Photometer should be connected to the computer via serial COM port using RS-232 (485)
protocol. Cable length can be up to 20 metres
(using optional RS-485 up to 200 m)
.
In the upper right corner of the screen there is a field for adjusting communication
parameters. COM1 is selected as default. If port is occupied by other device the
message “Port closed!” appears. In this chase select another port and click “Open port”.
If port is successfully open, the message "Port OK!" appears. Communication speed is
fixed at 9600 bps. When communicating, photometer must be powered on!
In the upper left corner of the screen there is a field indicating the photometer’s ID
number. This is used to identify the device when there is more than one photometer
connected on the bus
(RS-485)
. Use the last two digits of the device’s serial number
(see
back side sticker)
for ID.
3. 2. Writing Data to the Photometer
Left part of the screen contains data to be downloaded to the photometer
(black font)
;
right side shows data read from the photometer
(red font)
. By clicking “Write” button all
data consisting of 16 contactor-switch combinations, range, averaging interval and other
parameters are downloaded to the photometer. Data is only applied to device with
accurate ID number. When download is done successfully red numbers as read data
appears on the right side of the screen. In case of error at the procedure, “Error!”
message appears. If so, check ID number and try downloading again.
Range
Use “Range” setting to define measuring range of the photometer. Always use lowest
possible range, taking care brightness never exceed the range specified. In “auto” mode
photometer switches ranges according to light conditions. Use this option when
brightness data is acquisition is done from RS-232/485 or contactor outputs. When using
analog outputs, make sure to choose fixed range R1-R3 and match range in equations.
Default factory setting for range is full measuring range -R3.
Contactor outputs
Contactor combinations field Level 1-16 represents the upper brightness limit (cd/m
2
) for
each level. For entry you can use only numerical data. When the option “Expander” is
selected, software fills contactor-outputs combinations like BCD code. Use this option
only when optional Expander unit is used to controll more than 4 light chains. In this
chase final contactor-combinations are programmed at Expander unit.
The contactor-output combinations can be set for each level independently when option
“Custom” is set. When using less than 16 brightness level combinations, fill the rest of
the Level data with zero, and Level 16 with combination used when brightness at any
level specified are exceeded. (See: Picture 4 and Table 2).

Averaging
Averaging interval represents the time in minutes for calculating brightness moving-
average before contactor outputs are switched. This eliminates contactor switching due
to short-time light changes (approaching car, etc.) and provides hysteresis between the
brightness levels. The numerical data between 0 and 12 minutes can be selected.
3. 3. Reading Data From the Photometer
By clicking “Read” button data is read from the photometer. Data is only read from the
device corresponding to set ID. After reading is done successfully, red numbers as read
data appear on the right side of the screen. Brightness data is not affected by any
averaging delay.

By selecting “Illuminance Read” button to “Auto”, illuminance data is refreshed every
second. It is recommended to set this button to “Manual” while writing data to
Photometer.
4. Maintenance
4. 1. Checking and Maintenance
It is recommended to:
clean front screen of the photometer (minimum 2 months interval),
clean the housing (1 year interval) and
recalibrate (3 year interval).
Note!
The device requires regular checking and maintenance. Keep your maintenance and
service log up to date. Shorten check intervals if necessary.
•Maintenance personnel must be job qualified;
•Maintenance contractor company must provide education and training;
•Regular testing and checking must be exercised as described in this manual
and local standards;
•Any maintenance activity must be noted in the maintenance log.
4. 2. Servicing
•Servicing can only be done by authorised qualified personnel.
•Keep servicing log.
Servicing for the time of warranty is provided by manufacturer exclusively, after this time it
can be done by approved maintenance contractor.

5. 2. Transport and Stocking
Transport the device in original packing if possible. When it is not available use
protection air bubble foil and protect exposed areas with Styrofoam. If needed place it on
wooden pallets.
Temperature while transporting and stocking should wary between -25
°C and +55
°C.
Avoid long time stocking. After transport and mounting, allow at least 1 hour time to
settle down before commission. In case that device is not to be used for longer period,
store it in dry, well ventilated place at room temperature!
5. 3. Disposal
Lifetime of the device significantly depends on the way of use, installation, maintenance and
the working conditions. Production year is visible on the back side sticker. Deteriorated or
ruined device dispose to the place for industry electronic-components disposal according to
local regulation.
Components particularly danger for environment (batteries, chemicals, etc.) dispose to
special places.

CE declaration of conformity ensures that device is safe for use and it has been checked
and testedto the specified standards. CE statementis enclosed.

Limited Warranty Conditions
Our products are workmanship and materials fault free and will work according to
specification for minimum time of warranty -1 year. We provide spare parts and servicing
for at least 5 additional years. We will respond to failure notice immediately, at maximum
7 days and fix it in maximum time of 48 working days.
For warranty period we take full responsibility and costs (transport not included) for
removal of any malfunction due to materials or workmanship. After this period we charge
servicing according to used time and replaced parts.
Warranty related obligations come in power with full payment.
Warranty obligations cease to exist:
•in case of improper use or use in discordance to this manual;
•in case of mechanical damage;
•in case of consequential damage due to failure or damage of other devices,
•in case of natural or environmental cause (e.g. lightning discharge, flooding, fire,
etc.),
•if the device has been repaired by unauthorized personnel,
•if there are unoriginal spare parts built in the device,
•if there are changes made to the device or their parts without written approval of the
manufacturer.
