ASSEMBLY AND OPERATING MANUAL FOR
INDICATOR 9118

ASSEMBLY AND OPERATING MANUAL FOR INDICATOR 9118 06-2018 2/6
Valve position indicator type 9118 is used for the determination of the controlled valve open/shut position. The
indicator has been designed for maintenance-free operation. However, full switching is required at least once a
year.
Tools needed for indicator setting:
Wrench 10 mm
Wrench 19 mm
Wrench 30 mm
Setting the indicator’s dial position
This manual shows how to set the “OPEN” and “SHUT” marks in the indicator's viewing window and how to set
the indicator's height in relation to ground level. The indicator has been factory designed to be used on slides
with diameters from DN100 to DN300. There is a possibility of pre-setting the indicator for a given slide diameter
at the manufacturer's (JAFAR S.A.), this should be requested at the time of order placement.
The stages of indicator setting:
1. Unscrew the top lid and remove the indicator with dials from the column.

2. After disassembling the indicator, set the “OPEN” and “SHUT” dials. The setting is performed by
loosening the two screws holding the marked dials. One full 360° turn moves the dials by 3 mm, which
reflects the thread pitch of the thread located on the threaded sleeve. If a given fitting diameter has a
certain number of turns, e.g. 20, the interval between the OPEN-SHUT dials should be 60 mm.
Formula: number of fitting rotations x thread pitch 3 = distance between dials
3. After setting the indicator dials, assemble the lid with the indicator in the body making sure that the
guides within the body are aligned with the indicator rails. Otherwise, the indicator will not be working
properly.

4. Screw the lid to the column with two screws and set the OPEN or SHUT position dial in the indicator’s
viewing window. Perform the full switching cycle according to the declared number of rotations of the
slide on which the indicator will be assembled.

Setting the indicator on a slide with ground level
Telescopic indicator type 9118 has the option of adjusting its height in relation to the ground level with the
tolerance of 500 [mm].
First, fit the indicator on the slide and then establish its position against the ground. Before fitting the indicator
on the slide, the top lid must be disassembled again in order to determine the length of the spindle, and you
must make sure that the fitting to which the indicator is being assembled is in the fully open or shut position.
1. Tighten the indicator collar to the slide placing the coupling on the slide hood.

2. The position indicator has a telescopic structure, but the rod used for connection with the slide is fixed
and must be cut from the top (indicator lid). Setting the appropriate height of the indicator in relation
to the ground level must be performed using 30 mm wrench by slackening the screws presented on
the picture below. The rod enters the square opening of the threaded screw, on which the “OPEN”
and “SHUT” position dials are located. Cut the rod from the top so that its distance from the upper
surface is min. 30 mm. The picture below shows the recommended spindle length.
Keep in mind that the indicator height setting must be performed using a crane or a similar device in
compliance with safety principles. After setting the indicator, tighten the screws again using the 30
mm wrench.
3. Fit the lid on the column by putting the square opening of the threaded sleeve on the rod (spindle).
Before fitting the lid, make sure that the “OPEN” or “SHUT” dial is in the same position as the slide in
the indicator’s viewing window. Otherwise, turn the threaded sleeve without inserting into the body.
After lid tightening perform full switching and check whether the dials are aligned with the indicator’s
viewing window. If they are not aligned, remove the lid again and set the dials.
After the correct assembly, the indicator is ready to work on the slide.
