CARE AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
4
Fabrics, Vinyl's and Cloth covers
1. Minor spills can be removed with kitchen roll and the area wiped with clean water.
2. Staining should be removed as quickly as possible after contact.
3. Do not rub, rubbing will spread the stain over a larger area and may distort the
surface texture of the fabric.
4. For water based spills such as food, drink and vegetable oils, blot up the spill by
applying pressure with non-coloured paper towels, tissues or dry absorbent cloths.
Soak a small piece of cloth in a solution of mild detergent and warm water (use
cold water for blood), using a small amount of the solution at a time and with a
dabbing or blotting motion, work inwards from the edge of the stain to prevent it
spreading. Do not over wet. Excessive soaking may cause rings on the surface
spreading the stain further and may also damage the fabric or foam.
5. This step may need to be repeated and is dependent on the nature of the stain and
the amount of staining present. Continue treatment until stain is removed, always
remembering to remove excess moisture from the fabric prior to the next
treatment.
6. Rinse by applying clear tepid water using a small piece of non-coloured sponge or
clean white cloth, again working inwards from the edge of the treated area.
7. Disinfectants which do not contain organic solvents may be used according to the
manufacturer’s directions. Antibacterial spray or wipes can be used, be sure to dry
the product before use.
8. Do not soak the fabric.
9. Do not use organic solvents or dry cleaning fluids. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
10. For disinfectant purposes, a small quantity of household bleach diluted with water
(no more than 3% bleach) can be used, take care to rinse with water.
11. Do not use industrial bleaches such as Caustic Soda or Sodium Hypochlorite
12. Always ensure that the product is dry before use.

Fitting the Tray to your Rex Stander
The tray is fixed to the stander in two places. First loosen the bolts behind the chest support (fig 1) and
slide the tray over the bolts keeping the washers on the outside of the tray. Slide the tray right down as far
as it will go and tighten the wing nuts securely. Next, slide the channels at the side of the tray over the
bolts (fig 2) and push the tray to the desired angle and tighten.
(The Cat and Penguin will arrive with the tray already fitted).
With the tray removed, your
stander can be used right up to a
table or play tray. (fig 3) When
removing the tray, always keep
the wing nuts tightly in place on
the stander for future use.

Adjusting the height
How?
To adjust the height of Cat, Penguin and
Rex, apply all four brakes, loosen the four
knobs on the outside (fig 4) and pull the
chest pad to the desired height. Tighten
all the wing nuts again.
Why?
Cat, Penguin or Rex should support your child up to the breast bone. At this height your child is supported
but can work on improving their upper body and head control and can also work to improve their fine
motor control.
Fine adjustment of the chest pad
How?
The padded section of the chest pad can be adjusted slightly by loosening the two wing nuts (fig 5) and
raising or lowering the padded section to suit. Tighten knobs.
Why?
This adjustment will alter the relationship of your child to the tray. Try out different heights to find the one
where your child is able to function best.

Width of the thoracic or hip support pads
How?
The two individual thoracic or hip support pads can be adjusted to accommodate wider or narrower
children. The pads should support your child but not exert undue pressure. The support pads help to keep
your child’s spine straight whilst they stand. Adjust the pads so that they are the correct width for your
child and they can be angled slightly to run with the contour of your child’s chest/hips. For each individual
side support pad, loosen the two small black wing nuts (fig 6) and move the pad. Tighten wing nuts.
Why?
The thoracic or hip support pads help to keep your child straight and symmetrical. This improves their
posture and should improve their function both in standing and in their hand skills. Leave a two finger wide
space between the top of the thoracic support pads and your child’s armpit.

Adjusting the Hip support:
Height:
How?
Loosen the four yellow wing nuts (fig 7) and raise or
lower the support to the height of your child’s hips.
Retighten wing nuts.
Why?
The hip support should be at a height where your
child’s hips are held straight against the support. If
the support is too low, your child will sit on it and if
it is too high, your child can easily slip down. The
hips should be as straight as possible for standing.
Position:
How?
The hip support can be tilted or moved backwards or
forwards. Loosen the same yellow wing nuts as for
the height adjustment (fig 7) and slide the support
forwards/backwards or angle it to the desired
position.
Why?
The position of the hip support is important for your child’s posture. The hip support should hold your
child’s hips where a line of gravity drawn through their head and shoulder will also pass through their hips.
This makes sure that gravity is helping your child to bear weight as they stand and not forcing them to
bend. (Fig 8 & 9)

Straps
Hip and Thoracic straps: (both adjust in the same way)
How?
The webbing portion of the broad strap passes through
the supports and is secured using the swiss lock buckle
(fig 10). Use the Velcro in the middle of the strap to fix
your child safely into the stander and then fine tune their
position using the webbing portion of the strap. Secure
swiss lock. Never place the hip strap so low that it is below
their hips as they may sit on it and could fall out. Place
the hip strap to cover their hips to prevent them flexing or
bending at the hips.
Always leave a two finger wide space between the top of
the thoracic support pads and your child’s armpit.
Why?
By closing the Velcro in the middle your child is held in the stander so that they cannot fall out. Using the
fine adjustment afforded by the thinner portion of the strap, you can control the position of your child’s hips
and chest. The straps can be adjusted from both sides to make sure that your child not only stands straight
but that the straps pull over their body symmetrically. This is important because if the strap only adjusted
from one side, your child would be pulled to that side instead of having a straight spine. This helps to
maintain the position of their spine and hips and improves the standing position that they adopt. The velcro
straps should overlap by at least 3” (75mm). Please contact Jenx Limited if your child needs longer straps.
This can happen if, for instance, your child wears a corset or callipers making their girth wider.
Webbing safety straps
How?
The webbing safety strap is adjusted for length using the tri-glide and is secured by the clip buckle.

Making & Using the Adjustments
Knee Cups
How?
To raise or lower the knee cups, loosen the four yellow wing nuts (fig 13) and raise or lower the knee cup
carrier to the required height. The whole knee should be cradled within the cup. If the cup is too low, your
child will kneel on it and if it is too high, your child will not have any support to stop their knees from
bending. These same yellow wing nuts are used to alter the position of the knee cup carrier forwards or
backwards and to angle it. (fig 14-16)

Making & Using the Adjustments
The knee cups can be adjusted individually on the carrier. Loosen the wing nuts behind the cups (fig 17)
and slide the cups to the desired position on the carrier. This is how you can control the position of
abduction (fig 18) or adduction (fig 19) of your child’s hips as they stand. Please note: The sandals need to
be adjusted to line up properly with the position of your child’s legs. (see Sandals How? Page 18)
Why?
The position of the knees is important. The knee cup carrier should be positioned so your child’s knee is
cradled completely for comfort and security. The position of the knee cup carrier forwards or backwards is
important so that gravity can make a line through your child’s head, shoulders, hips and slightly behind
their knees. (fig 9. Page 14)

Always secure the child by using all of the positioning straps and safety straps provided. Velcro
should overlap by at least 3 inches
(7.5 cm)
on all straps before you begin to make any other
adjustments. Ensure the safety strap and positioning strap are adjusted for each child and for
changes of clothing.

Making & Using the Adjustments
Sandals
How?
The sandals can be moved through a wide range of
positions on the footplate. Loosen the black wing nuts
underneath an individual sandal (fig 20) and move the
sandal to the desired position. Tighten the wing nut
securely.
Why?
The position of the sandals is important as they create the base of your child’s standing posture. The
sandals should be positioned so your child stands as symmetrically as possible and so that their position
forwards/backwards on the footplate allows the line of gravity to work through your child’s head, shoulders,
hips and slightly behind their knee and in front of their ankle joint. (fig 9. Page 14)
Sandal straps
How?
The sandal straps are used to hold your child’s foot securely in position within the sandal. The rear strap
can be adjusted for length by unwinding the webbing from the support, setting the desired length and then
re-winding the webbing. Your child’s heel should be in contact with the sandal. (fig 21) The front two sets of
straps can be crossed over your child’s instep (fig 22) or used as an instep and a toe strap (fig 23)
Why?
Sandal straps keep your child’s feet in position within the sandal. The front two sets of straps (fig 22 & 23)
are used to keep the forefoot in position. It is important that your child bears weight through their heel and
foot when standing so the sandal straps are an important part of using the stander.

Adjusting the tray
How?
The tray can be adjusted to different angles to suit the activity. Loosen the two wing nuts (fig 24) and raise
or lower the tray to the desired angle. Tighten wing nuts.
Why?
Adjusting the angle of the tray can help
children perform some activities.
Drawing and pencil work is often easier
with the tray raised into an easel type
position. (fig 25)
The tray can be used with the bowl insert
or with the solid infill. The bowl is great
for water play or other messy play and
the infill can be used when a flat surface
is needed for drawing or painting. The
bowl and infill cannot both be used
together. The bowl must be removed to
use the infill and vice versa.
