ForsafeandreliableperformanceofyourR/Cmodel,please
carefullyreadandfollowtheseguidelines:
1. Radiocontrolmodelsarenottoys.Theyarecapableof
inflictingseriousinjurytopeopleandproperty.Usecau-
tionatalltimeswhenoperatingyourmodel.
2. YouareresponsibleforthesafeoperationofyourR/C
model.Youmustproperlyinstall,testandoperateyour
modelwithaclearsenseofthatresponsibility.Donot
takerisksthatmightendangeryourselforothers.
3. RunninganR/Ccarinthestreetsisverydangerousto
bothdriversandmodels.Avoidrunningyourmodelin
areasoccupiedbyfull sizeautomobiles.Tolocateareas
whereyoucansafelyoperateyourmodel,youshould
contactyourlocalhobbyshopforR/Ctracksorclubsin
yourarea.
4. WhenrunninganR/Cboat,keepit awayfromanyswim-
mers,fullsizeboats,orwildlife.Also,watchcarefullyfor
fishinglinesthatcangettangledinthepropeller.
5. Beforeoperatingyourmodel,makesureyourfrequencyis
clear.Ifsomeoneelseisoperatingonthesamefrequency,
bothmodelswill gooutofcontrol,possiblycausingdam-
agetothemodels,aswellasothers.
6. IfatanytimewhileoperatingyourR/Cmodelyousense
abnormalmodelfunctioning,endyouroperationimmedi-
ately.Donotoperateyourmodelagainuntilyouarecer-
taintheproblemhasbeencorrected.
CAUTION:Controlofyourmodelisimpossiblewithoutsuffi-
cientvoltageforthetransmitterandreceiver.Aweaktransmit-
terbatterywilldecreaseyourrangeofoperationandaweak
receiverbatterywillslowservomovementanddecreaseyour
rangeofoperation.Checkyourreceiverpackvoltageoftento
avoidlosingcontrolofyourmodel.Whenusingamodelthat
operatesboththeelectricmotorandthereceiverfromthe
samebattery(BatteryEliminatingCircuitry,orB.E.C.),you
shoulddiscontinueusewhenthetopspeedsharplydecreases
oryou'llquicklylosecontrolofyourmodel.

beneaththesteeringwheel(seepage6forexactlocation).
Turningthescrewclockwiseincreasesthesteeringtension.
ChargingJack
Locatedontheright-handsideofthetransmitteristhe
chargingjack,whichacceptsonlyJRwallchargers.Please
donotattempttouseanyotherbrandofwallchargerasit
maybereversepOlarityandcancausedamagetoyoursys-
tem.OnlyusetheJRwallchargerwhentheXR-3isequipped
withNi-Cadbatteries(availableseparately,JRPB958).

Circuitry(B.E.C.).Thereceivergetsitspowerfromthe
model'sNi-Cadbatterypack,thussavingtheweightofan

(4-7 cells)canbeusedsafely.Highervoltagepacksmay
damagethereceiverandservos.

Attention:Makesurethemaleandfemaleconnectorshave

batterybackupsystem.Thissystemisdesignedtoprotect
andretainall radioprogrammingintheeventthatthetrans-
mitterbatteriesdropbelowtherequired9.0volts,orthe
transmitterbatterycaseisremovedduringbatterychanges.If
afterfiveyearsit becomesnecessarytoreplacethelithium
battery,returnyoursystemtotheHorizonServiceCenterfor
repair(seeaddress,page31).
MemoryBackupScreen
IftheMemoryBackupscreenappears,thisindicatesthatany
programmingchangesmadesincethelasttimethesystem
wasturnedonmustbesavedbypressingtheMODEand
CHANNELbuttonsatthesametime.Ifyoudonotsave,the
recentprogrammingchangeswill belost.Ifthisscreen
appearsforasecondtime,itissuggestedthattheXR-3
transmitterbereturnedtotheHorizonServiceCenterfor
servicing(seeWarrantyInformation,page31).

TheTravelAdjustfeatureoftheXR-3allowsthemaximum
travelofboththesteering,throttleandChannel3(optional)
servostobeincreasedordecreasedineachdirectionto
achievetheexactservomovementneeded.Theadjustment
rangeisfrom0%to125%.Thetraveladjustmentisfactory
setto100%forbothchannels.Thetraveladjustmentvalue
displayedonthescreendependsonthecurrentpositionof
thesteeringwheel,trigger,ortrimlevertobeadjusted.This
featureisveryusefuleithertomaximizeservotravelorto

reduceservoover-traveltoeliminateservobinding(servo
movesfurtherthancontrolmechanismallows),withoutthe
needformechanicallinkageadjustment.
Thescreensbelowareaccessedbyturningthewheeltothe
desireddirectiontobeadjusted(leftorright),bymovingthe
triggertotheforwardorbackward(brake)position,orby

directiontoadjustthetravelintheoppositedirection.

7. ToexittheFunctionMode,eitherturnoffthetransmitter

Note:Whensettingthetraveladjustvaluesforthe
steeringfunction,it'ssuggestedthatifpossible
themaximumtravelvaluesbesettoanequal
valueinbothdirectionstomaintainproper
