Junos Space Appliance Overview
The Juniper Networks Junos Space Appliance is a dedicated hardware device that is
engineered to provide the computing power and meet specific requirements to be able
to install and run the Junos Space Network Management Platform. Junos Space Network
Management Platform is an open, extensible platform that simplifies the management
and orchestration of networks, and allows you to develop and host applications that
simplify network operations, scale services, and automate support. The all-in-one design
of the JA2500 appliance enables administrators to easily deploy Junos Space Network
Management Platform.
The Junos Space Appliance has been tested with up to six appliances connected in a
cluster (fabric) ability to manage up to 15,000 devices. The number of appliances that
can be connected together to form a management cluster will increase in subsequent
releases in order to achieve even better horizontal scalability. The Junos Space architecture
also achieves five nines availability.
Junos Space Appliances are currently available in two models: JA1500 and JA2500. This

JA1500 Appliance Hardware Overview
The JA1500 appliance has a 2-U, rack-mountable chassis with dimensions of 17.72 in. x
17.26 in. x 3.5 in. (45 cm x 43.84 cm x 8.89 cm). The JA1500 appliance ships with a single
AC power supply module; an additional power supply module can be installed in the

power supply slot in the rear panel of the appliance. In addition, the JA1500 appliance
can also be powered on by using one or two DC power supply modules.
The appliance has three 1-TB hard drives in a RAID 5 configuration. Two externally
accessible cooling fans provide the required airflow and cooling for the appliance.
JA2500 Appliance Hardware Overview
The JA2500 appliance has a 2-U, rack-mountable chassis with dimensions of 17.81 in. x
17.31 in. x 3.5 in. (45.2 cm x 44 cm x 8.89 cm). The JA2500 appliance ships with a single
AC power supply module; an additional power supply module can be installed in the
power supply slot in the rear panel of the appliance. In addition, the JA2500 appliance
can also be powered on by using one or two DC power supply modules.
The appliance has six 1-TB hard drives in a RAID 10 configuration. Two externally accessible
cooling fans provide the required airflow and cooling for the appliance.

The JA2500 Junos Space Appliance chassis is a rigid sheet-metal structure that houses
the appliance hardware components. Table 3 on page 4 summarizes the physical
specifications of the JA2500 appliance chassis.

The JA2500 appliance has six hot-swappable 1-TB hard disk drives in a RAID 10 configuration.
The hard drives are numbered (0 through 5) as follows:

•Slot 5 (top right) and Slot 2 (bottom right)

An empty power supply module slot is provided so that a
second power supply module can be added, for redundancy,
if needed.
Redundant power supply module slot
A single AC power supply module is shipped with the appliance
and provides power to the appliance. However, the appliance
can also be run on DC by using the DC power supply module
for the JA2500 appliance.

One LED is present on the power supply module:
•Green indicates that the power supply module is powering
the appliance.
•Amber indicates that the power supply module is on but it
is not powering the appliance (standby mode).

Junos Space Ethernet Interfaces Overview
This topic applies to the following Junos Space Appliances: JA1500 and JA2500.
A Junos Space Appliance has four Ethernet interfaces; two interfaces can be used and
two are reserved for future use. The Ethernet interfaces are labeled ETH0,ETH1,ETH2,
and ETH3 for the JA1500 Junos Space Appliance, and 0,1,2, and 3for the JA2500 Junos
Space Appliance.
•When you configure an appliance as a Junos Space node, you can use only one or both
Ethernet interfaces:
•When only one Ethernet interface (eth0) is used, the Junos Space nodes in the fabric,
virtual IP (VIP) address of the fabric, and the devices being managed by Junos Space
are on the same subnet.
•When both Ethernet interfaces (eth0 and eth3) are used, the Junos Space nodes in
the fabric and virtual IP (VIP) address of the fabric are on the same subnet and are
reachable through Ethernet interface ETH0 (JA1500 appliance) or Ethernet interface
0(JA2500 appliance). The devices being managed by Junos Space are on the same
subnet, which is different from the one reachable through Ethernet interface ETH0
or Ethernet interface 0, and are reachable through Ethernet interface ETH3 (JA1500
appliance) or Ethernet interface 3(JA2500 appliance).
•When you configure an appliance as a specialized node used for fault monitoring and
performance monitoring (FMPM), you can use only the Ethernet interface eth0.

The device management interface (eth3) is designed for use in a device management
subnet when the managed devices are not reachable using the eth0 interface or are on
an out-of-band management subnet. The eth3 interface uses the devint routing table
for routing. The devint routing table contains the IP address of the default gateway for
device management traffic and is enabled when the eth3 interface is configured.
NOTE: If the managed network isnotreachable throughthedefault gateway,
you must configure static routes.
Any static route configured manually is populated in the main routing table,
which is used to route traffic through the eth0 interface.
Table 6 on page 9 describes the functions of Ethernet interfaces on the Junos Space
Appliance.
