substance that might damage your hea th.
18. Never use your espresso maker without water in it.
19. Avoid contact with steam, since sca ding can occur if care is not
taken when steaming mi k or any time the steam va ve is open.

POLARIZED PLUG INS RUC IONS
This app iance has a po arized p ug (one b ade is wider than the
other). To reduce the risk of e ectric shock, this p ug wi fit into the
po arized out et on y one way. If the p ug does not proper y fit into
the out et at first, reverse it. If it sti does not fit, contact a competent
qua ified e ectrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
SHOR CORD INS RUC IONS
A short power supp y cord is provided to reduce the hazards resu ting
from becoming entang ed in, or tripping over a onger cord.
Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use.
• The e ectrica rating of the extension cord shou d be at east
that of the app iance. If the e ectrica rating of the extension
cord is too ow, it cou d overheat and burn.
• The resu ting extended cord shou d be arranged so that it wi
not drape over the counter top or tab etop where it can be
pu ed on by chi dren or tripped over.

BEFORE USE
Check if a switches are in the OFF position.
We recommend to get used to a functions of your app iance
before using it for the first time.
Remove the id of the water tank by ifting it up. Fi the water tank
with co d water. Put the id back onto the water tank.
Before the first use, in order to c ean the inner side of the app iance
circuit, you have to operate it three times reading the be ow-
mentioned instructions (without coffee in the fi ter ho der).
C ean the accessories thorough y in hot soapy water, rinse and dry
them carefu y.
USE
Important: during use, always check that there is enough water in the
water tank.
• Check if a switches are in the OFF position and that the
app iance is unp ugged.
• Open the id of the water tank (1) and fi it with co d water and
make sure not to exceed the maximum indicated water eve .
• C ose the id of the water tank.
• P ug in the app iance. The app iance is now ready for use.
PREPARING ESPRESSO COFFEE
Espresso is a strong coffee, with a characteristic taste, extreme y rich
in aroma. Therefore, the water, which arrives in the fi ter with a high
temperature, is pushed very fast through the coffee mass by a strong
pressure. It extracts the nectar from the grinding and draws the
essentia aromas from the coffee. That’s why the espresso is usua y
served in sma “espresso” cups.
Use preferab y a specia espresso coffee with suitab e roasting and
grinding.
Remember that the espresso needs a finer grinding than the
standard coffee.

• P ace the sma (11) or the arge fi ter (12) correct y in the fi ter
ho der.
• According to the required number of cups, fi the sma or arge
fi ter with 1 or 2 measures of specia espresso coffee powder using
the measuring spoon (13).
• Then press the coffee with the tamper (13).
• Insert the fi ter ho der (3) in the support of the fi ter ho der (14).
Therefore, p ace the hand e (6) of the fi ter ho der to the eft and
check that the fi ter ocking ever (15) is as far as possib e from the
fi ter by pu ing it to you. Insert the fi ter ho der in its support and
turn it firm y to the right unti it b ocks. The fi ter ho der shou d be as
far to the right of the c osing zone as possib e and at east in the
midd e of the app iance. This wi avoid that the fi ter ho der
comes out of its housing as the pressure rises when the coffee is
f owing. If the fi ter ho der does not fit in the c osing zone and at
east in the midd e of the app iance, do not operate your
app iance, remove the fi ter ho der and position it again as
described here above.
• P ace one or two cup(s) on the grid of the drip tray (4) and under
the dripping ho es of the fi ter ho der.
• Check that the function se ector (9) is in off position and p ace
the ON/OFF switch (5) in ON position. The red power ight (2) of
the switch wi i uminate and indicate that the app iance is
switched on.
• Wait unti the b ue ready ight (8) ights up. When it comes on, turn
the function se ector (9) to . The pump wi start functioning
and a few seconds ater the coffee wi start coming out through
the openings of the fi ter ho der. At the beginning you can hear
that the pump makes more noise than when the water starts
f owing. This is abso ute y norma .
• When the cup(s) is (are) fi ed, turn the function se ector (9) back
to “0" and the water wi stop f owing.
• To prepare other espressos, empty the used coffee of the fi ter.
Therefore you have to remove the fi ter ho der by turning it to the
eft. CAU ION: Be careful when you remove the filter holder
because the metal parts may still be hot. Never remove the filter
holder when the function selector is not in “0” position. Put the
fi ter ocking ever (15) against the edge of the fi ter in order to
b ock it and beat the fi ter ho der above the bin. Rinse the

accessories with c ear water and fi the fi ter again with the
desired amount of coffee.
• Proceed as described here above.
CAU ION:
If you have not used your app iance for a ong time, it is necessary to
make one or two brewing processes without coffee to rinse the inner
parts of the app iance.
HOW O PREPARE A CAPPUCCINO
First of a prepare a coffee as described here above etting enough
p ace for the mi k.
Caution: Before using the steam function, make sure the filter holder
has been removed from its support.
In order to obtain a thick and creamy mi k froth it is necessary to
evacuate the remaining water in the hydrau ic circuit of the
app iance. To do so:
• Switch on the app iance. The red power ight (2) wi i uminate
and indicate that the app iance is switched on.
• Fi the desired mi k quantity into a heat resistant container (it has
to be arge enough to avoid sp ashing, do not fi more than ha f
of the recipient) and p ace it under the steam pipe (7). Immerse
the steam nozz e comp ete y in the mi k in order to reduce
sp ashing.
• Wait unti the b ue ready ight (8) ights up. When it comes on, turn
the function se ector (9) to . The mi k wi start frothing, which
means that the steam is coming out.
• When you obtain the required smoothness, turn the function
se ector (9) back to “0”.
• Then pour the preparation in your cup.

Caution: the steam pipe shou d not touch the bottom of the
container because it may bother the steam f ood.
C ean the steam pipe after each use especia y when it has been
immersed in mi k. If you do not c ean it, the inner side of the pipe can
get b ocked and it wi be difficu t to remove the mi k residues around
it. The p astic nozz e of the pipe can be removed for c eaning by
simp y pu ing it down. In case of obstruction of the pipe, use a
need e to remove the mi k residues. Just after having frothed up the
mi k, wipe the body of the pipe with a damp c oth.
CAU ION: PAY A EN ION NO O GE BURNED WI H HE S EAM AND
HE ME AL PAR OF HE PIPE (WHICH MAY BE HO ).
CLEANING
he body of the appliance: before c eaning the app iance, switch it
off, remove the p ug from the wa socket and wait unti it has coo ed
down. Wipe the body of the app iance with a damp c oth. Never
immerse the body of the app iance in water or any other iquid.
Filters: Can be washed in the upper side of a dishwasher. If the ho es
are b ocked by coffee residues, you can wipe them with a sma non-
meta ic brush.
Support of the filter holder: The ground coffee residues can be
removed with a toothpick.
Steam pipe for cappuccino: See paragraph “How to prepare a
cappuccino”.
Drip tray: When the drip tray is fu , a sma p astic part wi come out
indicating you have to empty it. In order to c ean the drip tray,
remove the tray and the grid.
CAU ION: NEVER RY O OPEN OR O DISASSEMBLE HE BODY OF HE
APPLIANCE.

DESCALING
The expresso machine has to be desca ed regu ar y. The frequency
depends on the water hardness and of the use frequency.
1. Remove the sca e and the coffee residues from the fi ter grid and
from the support of the fi ter ho der. It is recommended to use
on y iquid desca ing agent that can be found in shops and in the
proportions indicated on the packing paper by the producer.
2. P ace the container under the support of the fi ter ho der
(Caution: do not use the fi ter ho der during the desca ing).
3. Press the ON Switch, wait for the b ue ready ight to i uminate and
turn the function se ector to .
4. When the so ution has finished f owing, turn the function se ector
to “0”, switch off the app iance and et it coo down.
5. Repeat this operation a second time.
Then proceed in the same way but this time on y with fresh water to
rinse the inner side of the circuit. For a good rinsing, the equiva ent of
two expresso tanks has to pass through the circuit. Switch off the
app iance and remove the p ug from the power supp y. Let it coo
down.
Attention: Never use vinegar as descaling agent.
Some recognizab e signs indicate that desca ing is necessary:
• Increase of the noise during boi ing.
• A onger time of decoction cyc e
For a regu ar use, the desca ing has to be done in the fo owing
periodicity:
• With itt e bit hard water, once a year
• With midd e hard water, once a trimester
• With hard water, once a month.
In case of doubt concerning the water qua ity, ask your oca water
company.
