Introduction
The KE2 SmartGate is the heart of the Refrigeration Network. It
is designed to provide the KE2 Evaporator Eciency controller
with the ability to communicate easily and immediately both lo-
cally and remotely. Locally it provides wired or wireless access to
the controllers without special congurations of the user’s PC.
Although KE2 Therm does not require special equipment for
communication with our devices, many users have request-
ed a pre-congured solution to simplify the creation of the
Refrigeration Network. Using feedback from many eld instal-
lations, KE2 Therm’s engineers have created the KE2 SmartGate.
The KE2 SmartGate natively provides the user with a powerful
tool designed to simplify any installation from a basic single
controller to the most advanced multi-controller setup. The on-
board set of tools are fully supported by KE2 Therm’s Technical
Support team to make the installation even smoother.

First Use
The KE2 SmartGate ships pre-congured for use with the KE2
Evaporator Eciency controller. Port 1 is congured as a WAN
port to be connected to either the customer’s existing network
or their ISP’s (Internet Service Provider) supplied connection.
The KE2 SmartGate is manageable by browsing to 10.10.255.254
when plugged into port 2-10, or when wirelessly connected to
KE2 WiFi.
Powering the KE2 SmartGate
The KE2 SmartGate is supplied with an attached transformer.
The remote transformer accepts 100-240Vac incoming power.

Conguring the KE2
SmartGate
The majority of the KE2 SmartGate’s
conguration has been completed by
KE2 Therm. The following will serve as
a reference if needed.
1To access the router’s web inter-
face, launch the web browser of your
choice (i.e. Chrome, Internet Explorer,
Firefox, Safari, etc.)
Enter the router’s IP address
(10.10.255.254) into the address bar of
the browser and press Enter.
2Once the page is loaded in the KE2
Refrigeration Network homescreen
will appear

After logging into the KE2 SmartGate, the Quick Set tab will be
automatically selected.
Changing the conguration from this page may cause
the KE2 SmartGate to operate incorrectly.
Clicking the Reset Conguration should be avoided unless
instructed to do so by KE2 Therm. This will erase all KE2
Therm congurations and will require each component to
be set up individually.

Network
WAN
7The Wide Area Network
Address is typically provided by
the device attached to Port 1 on
the KE2 SmartGate. This will either
be the customer’s router or the
ISP’s modem.
By default the KE2 SmartGate is
congured as a DHCP Client. It
will take the address provided
by the DHCP server of the device
attached to the Port 1.
Static IP
8Some installations may require
setting the WAN IP of the KE2
SmartGate to a specic IP address
provided by the local IT person-
nel or Internet service provider.
To change the KE2 SmartGate
from a dynamic address to a static
address, move the radio button
selection from DHCP to Static. This
will open additional options in the
Quick Start screen.
9The WAN IP address should be
the 4 IP address octets followed
by the subnet in bits. In smaller
applications it is common to use
an IP address beginning with
192.168.1 with a 24 bit subnet, i.e.
192.168.1.103/24.
10 When changing to a static IP
address, you must also dene a
gateway and DNS server(s). These
numbers will be supplied by your
local IT or ISP provider.
11 After successfully conguring
your SmartGate to the appropriate
Static WAN address click the Apply
Conguration button.

NAT/PAT
Network and Port Address
Translation are two techniques
available to assist users in placing
the KE2 Evaporator Eciency
Controllers on the Internet with-
out requiring a VPN. Caution:
Opening ports misappropriately
can lead to security risks. Please
seek IT help if you are unsure.
13 To access Network Address
Translation (NAT), rst select the IP
dropdown menu.
14 Then select the Firewall
Settings. 13

NAT/PAT
15 Once in the Firewall settings, select the NAT tab. There
will already be some information in this eld, however, we will
select the ‘Add New’ option.
Once the NAT setup screen is present the user should identify
the appropriate areas of the conguration required for this
process. Refer to the gure for assistance.
ToproperlysetuptheNATcongurethefollowing:
16 Make sure Enabled has a check mark
17 Chain = ‘dstnat’
18 Protocol = ‘6(tcp)’
19 DST to the port used by the external IP address, seleted by
the user, to access the KE2 Evap.
The Default port used by the KE2 Evap controller is TCP Port 80.
In single controller applications, the DST may be selected to 80
if not already used (i.e. camera system, etc.) Multiple control-
lers require the Network Address Translation process to be
completed for each controller attached to the KE2 SmartGate.
This will assign a unique Port to EACH controller allowing it to
be inidividually viewed.
For example:
use port 8081 for 1st controller
Use port 8082 for 2nd controller
User port 8083 for 3rd controller.
Accessing the controller remotely will be as simple as entering
http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8081(xx=customerinternetIPorDomain
Name)
