CALIBRATION OF THE TESTER
The KS-PH-220-BASIC needs to be calibrated prior to first use or when a new sensor is installed in the meter. Regular
calibration is needed to ensure accurate pH measurement.
The KS-PH-220-BASIC can perform two points calibration. For the first calibration point, the pH 7.00 buffer solution is
used.
The solution used for the second calibration point depends on the sample to be measured. For acidic samples, the pH
4.01 buffer solution should be used. For alkaline samples, the pH 10.01 buffer solution should be used.
For the KS-PH-220-BASIC, only pH pouches are included and the user must prepare the solutions. Do not recycle
used calibration solutions.
PREPARATION OF PH BUFFER SOLUTIONS
1. The KS-PH-220-BASIC comes with three pH buffer solution pouches: pH 7, pH 10.01 and pH 4.01
2. Open one of the pouches and place it into a 250 ml volumetric flask. Add in distilled water to match the scale line.
3. Mix the solution until it is dissolved.
4. Repeat the procedures for the other pouches that will be used during calibration.
CALIBRATION PROCESS
1. Begin by preparing the needed buffer solutions.
2. Rinse the pH electrode with distilled water.
3. Press the SETUP key to access the setup menu.

3. Press ENTER and the display should automatically show the calibration indicator and ‘7.00’
4. Dip the pH electrode into the pH 7.00 buffer solution. The end of the electrode must be completely submerged
in the solution. Stir the senor gently.
5. Press ENTER to confirm and wait for the measurement to stabilize as the reading will automatically flash 3 times.
6. The first calibration point is now completed. The display will then show ‘---‘’, indicating the start of the second
calibration point.
7. Begin the second calibration point by rinsing the pH electrode with distilled water.
8. Dip the electrode into either the pH 4.01 or pH 10.01 solution. Stir the sensor gently.
9. Press ENTER to confirm and wait for the measurement to stabilize as the reading will automatically flash 3 times.
10. The meter will then display the electrode slope and the returns to measurement mode.
REMINDERS DURING CALIBRATION
1. If the meter displays ‘Err’ during the calibration process, please check that the pH electrode is properly mounted and
that the used buffer solutions are fresh or uncontaminated.
2. You can exit the calibration process anytime by pressing the MEAS key to return to measurement mode.

USING THE METER AND OTHER FUNCTIONS
pH MEASUREMENT
1. Press ENTER key until the display shows measurement unit ‘pH’.
2. Rinse the pH electrode with distilled water to remove impurities.
3. Dip the electrode into the sample solution, stir the sensor gently.
4. Wait for the measured value to stabilize and record the reading on the display.
mV MEASUREMENT
1. Press ENTER key until the display shows measurement unit ‘mV’.
2. Rinse the pH electrode with distilled water to remove impurities.
3. Dip the electrode into the sample solution, stir the sensor gently.
4. Wait for the measured value to stabilize and record the reading on the display.
HOLD FUNCTION
The data hold function is used to freeze the measured value on display. During measurement mode, press the
HOLD key. The ‘HOLD’ indicator should appear on the display. Press HOLD again to release the measured reading
and continue to make measurements.
STORING AND RECALLING DATA FROM MEMORY
The KS-PH-220-BASIC has enough memory to store 50 data sets. Two functions involved with using the meter’s
memory are memory input and memory recall.
MEMORY INPUT
1. In measurement mode, press SAVE to save the measured value into the memory. The ‘Memory’ indicator should
appear on the display.
2. If the memory is full, the oldest value stored will be erased to create for the new value.

MEMORY RECALL
1. Press the VIEW key in measurement mode. The display should show the ID number, data and time of the stored
data.
2. Press the key to scroll down on the stored data, showing either the pH or mV reading and temperature.
3. To exit, press MEAS key to return to measurement mode.
ELECTRODE CARE AND MAINTENANCE
1. Clean as necessary depending on the extent and condition of use. Store the electrode in electrode storage solution
after cleaning or after use.
2. When used in samples with salt deposits: Wash the electrode using tap water and then rinse using distilled water.
3. When used in samples with oil and grease: Was the bulb gently in water with detergent. Using alcohol is also
effective.
4. Clogged reference junction: Heat a diluted KCl solution to 60 to 80 °C and place the senor into the heated solution
for 10 minutes. Allow the electrode to cool in some unheated KCl solution.
5. For solutions with protein deposits: Prepare a 1% pepsin solution in 0.1M of HCL. Place the electrode in the solution
for 10 minutes. Rinse the sensor with distilled water
PREPARATION OF THE ELECTRODE STORAGE SOLUTION
1. Dissolve 22.365 grams of potassium chloride reagent (KCL) in the 100mL distilled water.
2. Pour the 50mL of KCL solution into the beaker.
3. Pour the 50mL of pH4.01 standard buffer solution into the same beaker.
4. Stir the solution until the solution has thoroughly mixed. Preparation is completed.
