Before turning on the power supply
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

1. Only clean the device with a clean, dry cloth!
-Pull out the plug on the device from the socket before cleaning. When cleaning, never use liquid detergents
or cleaning sprays, only a damp cloth.
2. Accessories
-Only use accessories provided by the manufacturer.
3. Never use this device near water
-The device should never be used near water droplets or sprays – for example, near bathrooms, washbasins,
the kitchen sink, washing machine, in a damp cellar or near a swimming pool etc. Never place receptacles full of
fluid on top of the device, for example, vases of flowers.
4. Ventilation
--The slits and openings in the housing are designed to ventilate the device to ensure it works reliably and to
protect it from overheating and potentially bursting into flames. Do not block the ventilation holes. Install the
device according to the manufacturer's instructions. Never block the ventilation holes by placing the device on a
bed, sofa, rug, or similar soft surface. The device should not be installed in a bookcase or built-in cupboard if
there is insufficient ventilation, as described in the manufacturer’s installation guide.
5. Power supply
-This device can only be connected to the mains power voltage specified on the device. If you are not sure
about the type of power supply in your home, contact your dealer or your local energy provider.
6. Power cable
-Make sure nobody can trip over the power cable and that, if near a socket, it cannot become trapped by
additional sockets. Never crush the power cord that protrudes from the device.
7. Storms
-Disconnect the device from the power supply if there is a storm or if it is not being used for a long period of
time.
8. Overloading
-Never overload mains sockets, extension cables or multiple socket outlets as this could lead to a risk of fire or
electric shock.
9. The ingress of foreign bodies or fluids
-Make sure that no foreign bodies or fluids can get into this device through the ventilation holes, as these
could make contact with high-voltage components or cause a short-circuit, leading to a fire or electric shock.
Never spill any kind of liquid on this device.

10. Maintenance
-Never try to carry out your own maintenance on this device by opening it up or removing the cover. When
connected to the power, static parts can start to move and any disturbance can lead to danger. Leave all
maintenance work to a qualified customer service technician.
11. Damage that needs to be repaired
-Ensure that any maintenance and repair work is only carried out by a qualified customer service technician.
Maintenance or repair work is required if the device is damaged (e.g. the power cord or plug), if liquid has got
into the device, if foreign objects have got inside, if it has been exposed to rain or moisture, or if it no longer
works properly or has suffered a fall.
12. Replacement parts
-- If replacement parts are needed, make sure that any service technician only uses replacement parts specified
by the manufacturer or those that have the same features as the original parts. Using unauthorised replacement
parts can lead to fire, electric shock and other accidents.
13. Safety checks
-After servicing or repairing this device, ask the service technician to carry out a safety test to establish that
the equipment is in good working order.
14. Wall or ceiling mounting
-This device may only be fitted to a wall or ceiling in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
15. Heat
-Do not install the device near hot surfaces such as, for example, radiators or fan heaters, ovens or other
devices (including amplifiers) that can get hot. Never place objects such as candles or lanterns that emit open
flames on or near the device.
16. Power cables
-An outdoor aerial should not be installed near power cables or other electrical wiring or in any place where it
could fall onto electrical wiring. When installing an outdoor aerial, take great care that it does not accidentally
touch electrical wiring, as this can have life-threatening consequences.

maintenance should only be carried out by a qualified technician.
Automatic energy-saving function
This stereo system has an automatic energy saving function. This will switch to standby mode after 15 minutes in
the following circumstances:
1. There is no CD inserted or the CD-Player has not been started.
2. The USB connection has not been made or the play function has not started.
3. STOP or PAUSE have been pressed in the CD or USB modes.
4. There is no music playing in the LINE-IN mode.
5. STOP or PAUSE have been pressed in the LINE-IN mode.
6. There is no device connected in the BLUETOOTH mode.
7. There is no audio to play through the BLUETOOTH connection.

Before first-time use

Unpacking
Unpack the device carefully and make sure that all accessories are available:

Notes for reading the manual
Most functions can be controlled using the remote control.
Preparing the remote control
•Insert the batteries into the remote control with the correct polarity (+ and -).
•The battery supplied is intended to test the functions on the remote and may have a limited lifespan.
•If the remote control’s range decreases, replace the old battery with a new one.
•If the remote control’s sensor is exposed to direct sunlight or light from high-frequency fluorescent tubes,
it may malfunction. If this happens, you should move the system to a different location to avoid such a
malfunction.
Connecting the device
•Unpack the device carefully and make sure that all the accessories are present.
•Connect the right and left speaker with their corresponding connections
(Speaker Out) at the rear of the device.
•Insert the power plug firmly into an AC wall outlet.
DAB+ / VHF aerial connection
1. Connect the cable to the socket [ANTENNA FM 750].
2. Look for the place where you can get the best signal.
3. Secure the aerial into position.
•The aerial that comes with the system is a simple wire antenna. Using an external aerial is recommended to
get a more stable signal. First disconnect your internal aerial in order to connect an outdoor aerial.
•A DAB reception is not guaranteed when receiving radio station signals over a cable network.

Using the device for the first time
When turning the device on for the first time, it will perform a search for DAB stations. Please wait until this
process is complete. For more information, please refer to the section on "Using a DAB radio".
Using CDs
Handling precautions
Hold the CD so that you are not touching the data surface (the unprinted side is the side that plays.)
Cautions for using CDs
Only use CDs with the mark. A CD without this mark may not play properly.
Facts worth knowing about USB devices
Advice about using a USB device
This kind of device can play back audio files stored on flash storage or a digital audio player if these devices
have a USB port (in this document, these are referred to as USB devices).
These restrictions apply to using USB devices:
Usable USB devices
•USB devices that belong to a mass storage class.
•USB devices where the maximum current consumption is 500 mA at the most.
•USB mass storage class: USB devices that a PC recognises as external storage without needing a special driver
or special software.
•If you are not sure that your USB device conforms to the specifications of the USB mass storage class, please
consult your dealer.
•Using an unsupported USB device could lead to faulty playback or displaying the audio file incorrectly.
Even if you use a USB device that complies with the above specifications, depending on the type or condition of
your USB device, audio files may not be played correctly.

Basic functions
Turning on the system: Press the button on the remote or on top of the device.
The message "HELLO" will appear on the display.
Turning off in standby: Press the button on the remote or on top of the device. The message
"GOODBYE" will appear and the device will switch itself into standby mode.
Volume control
On the remote control: Press the buttons VOL+ to increase the volume and VOL- to lower it.
On the main device: Press the volume control to increase and decrease the volume.
If you choose the minimum volume, the display will show "VOL MIN" and for maximum volume "VOL
MAX" will briefly appear in the display.
To turn off the volume temporarily: Press the button on the remote control. "MUTE" will flash on
the display. When you press the button again, the volume is restored.
Adjusting the sound
You can raise or lower the bass and treble for your favourite music.
On the main device: Press the BASS or TREBLE controls, to adjust the gain level in increments of 2 from -8 to
+8.
Equaliser
On the remote control: Press the EQ button to choose the following settings in sequence: POP -> FLAT ->
JAZZ -> CLASSIC -> ROCK
Using the CD und USB functions
Preparation
Loading a CD
1. Press the button on the main device or remote to open the CD compartment
2. Insert a CD with the printed side facing upwards in the CD compartment
3. Press the button on the main device or remote to close the CD compartment
Removing a CD
1. Press the button on the main device or remote to open the CD compartment
2. Carefully remove the CD from the CD compartment
3. Press the button on the main device or remote to close the CD compartment
Connecting USB devices
1. Press the button to put the device in standby mode.
2. Connect the USB device to the USB port on the rear of the device.
Disconnecting USB devices
1. Press the button to choose standby mode.
2. Remove the USB device from the USB port.

•Always wait until the device has finished reading the CD / USB device before going ahead.
•If there is no CD in the CD compartment, the message "NO DISC" will be displayed.
•If there is no playable audio data on the USB device, the message "NO SONG" will be displayed.
•With audio files, the read time may exceed 10 seconds if a CD or USB device contains a lot of songs.
Playing back a CD or audio file (USB, CD)
On the remote control: Use the Source button to choose the source and press the Enter button to begin
playback.
On the main device: Use the Source button to choose the desired source and press the Enter button to
begin playback.
For USB devices or CDs containing audio files (such as MP3), the display shows the number of folders and files as
follows:
FXX XXX
The number appearing after "F" is the number of folders and the second number set is the total number of files.
Also, for audio CDs, information about the number of tracks and total playing time is displayed as follows:
XX XX:XX
The first set of numbers represents the number of titles and the second set is the CD's total playing time.
Basic operating functions
Stopping playback: Press the button on the main device or remote to stop playback.
Pause playback: Press the button on the main device or remote to pause playback. The display will
start to flash. Pressing the button again resumes playback.
Searching for a particular passage during play: Hold the button ⏩or ⏪on the main device or remote for
longer than 2 seconds to activate ⏩or ⏪. Once you have found the correct place, release the corresponding
button.
Choosing a particular track: Press the ⏩or ⏪button on the main device or remote in playback, pause or
stop mode.
To jump to 10 tracks: Press the button +10 or -10 on the remote control in play, pause or stop mode.
Choosing a specific folder (audio files only): Press the Fold+ or Fold-on the remote to choose a
folder.
Programming titles and files
Using the remote control, you can program tracks on an audio CD or files to play in the sequence you want. You
will find the following number of storage locations:
Audio-CD: 20 storage locations Files: 99 storage locations

Procedure for audio CDs
1. The "CD" source must be in stop mode.
2. Press the PRG button to select the program mode.
3. The display will then show "01 PR01" with "01" flashing. The first number set shows the current title, the
second shows the current memory location.
4. Use the ⏩or ⏪button to choose the title you want to save in the current memory location.
5. Press the PRG button to confirm the selection.
6. This displays the next storage location. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until your selection is complete or the number of
memory slots is full. If this happens, "Full" will appear in the display.
7. Press the button to play back the programmed tracks. During playback, the track number and that of
the program position are displayed alternately.
8. Pressing the key twice clears the programming.
Procedure for audio files
1. The "USB" source must be in stop mode.
2. Press the PRG button to select the program mode.
3. The display will then show "01 PR01" with "01" flashing. The first number set shows the current title, the
second shows the current memory location.
4. Choose a folder with the Fold+ or Fold-button, or keep the current folder. When selecting a folder, the
display changes to "FXX XXX , where "FXX" stands for the current folder and "XXX" for the current title.
5. Use the ⏩or ⏪button to choose the title you want to save to the current memory location.
6. Press PRG to confirm the selection.
7. This displays the next storage location. Repeat steps 4 and 6 until your selection is complete or the number of
memory slots is full. If this happens, "Full" will appear in the display.
8. Use the button to start playing back the programmed title.
9. Pressing the key twice clears the programming.
•Pressing the button during programming aborts the process. Switching off the device deletes an
existing program.

The random play and repeat functions_______________________________________
Procedure for audio CDs
•Press the SHUFFLE button on the remote control to start playing on shuffle. In the display, the message
"SHUFFLE" will appear for 2 seconds and playback will start. Pressing the SHUFFLE button twice or the
button cancels the shuffle function.
•On the remote control, press the REPEAT button to activate the playback function. Pressing this several times
controls the following functions:
Playback the current song (Display "REP ONE")
Playback all songs (Display "REP ALL")
Turn off the play function (Display "OFF")
Using the button, begin playback.
Pressing the button turns off the playback function.
Procedure for audio files
•Press the SHUFFLE button on the remote control to start playing on shuffle. In the display, the
message "SHUFFLE" will appear for 2 seconds and playback will start. Pressing the SHUFFLE button
twice or the button cancels the shuffle function.
•On the remote control, press the REPEAT button to activate the playback function. Pressing this several times
controls the following functions:
Playback the current song (Display "REP ONE")
Playback the current file (Display "REP FLD")
Playback all songs (Display "REP ALL")
Turn off playback (Display "OFF")
Use the button to start playback.
Pressing the button turns the playback function off.

Using the DAB+ Radio _________________________________________________________
Press DAB on the remote control or the Source button on the main device until you see "DAB" in the display.
Setting the DAB+ stations
When commissioning the device, it carries out a station search. The stations found are stored alphabetically in
the station list.
Restarting the automatic station search
•Press the MENU button to get the DAB menu.
The display will show "FULL SCAN". Begin the search pressing Enter.
•During the search, the display shows the number of stations it has found so far.
•If the search finds no stations, the message "NO DAB" will appear for approximately 2 seconds, which then
changes to show "FULL SCAN".
Please check that the aerial is connected correctly or try to find another place for the device for a better
reception.
Manually setting stations
•Press the MENU button to bring up the DAB menu.
•Press the button TUN+ until "MANUAL" appears in the display.
•Confirm by pressing Enter and the display shows the channel currently set with its frequency.
•Press the TUN+ or TUN- buttons to choose another station manually.
•Press the Enter button to confirm this choice. The signal level will appear in the display and pressing the key
again loads the current ensemble.
Finding a DAB+ station
Find the stations stored alphabetically in the station list as follows:
•Press TUN+ or TUN- on the remote control to scroll backwards or forwards in the station list.
•When you find the correct station, press Enter on the remote control or wait about 2 seconds to begin
playback.
The message "LOADING" will appear in the display.
•If the signal strength for your chosen station is too low for good quality playback, "OFF AIR" will appear in
the display. Please choose another station.
Saving stations in the station memory
There are 20 memory slots where you can store DAB stations for easy retrieval. To use the memory function,
please do the following:
•Choose a station to save.
•Press the PRG button until the display flashes and suggests a memory location. An empty memory location
will show as "EMPTY" and, if already in use, will show the frequency. You can use a memory location that has
been used before.
•Press the TUN+ or TUN- buttons to choose a memory location.
•Confirm storage with the Enter button. The display will briefly flash the message "STORED".
•The stations can now be selected with the ⏩or ⏪buttons.

More DAB+ Information
DAB+ transmits additional information to the music signal. You can find this as follows.
Press the INFO button on the remote control to retrieve the information in sequence:
•DLS (Dynamic Label Segment): Text to accompany the program, such as the artist, song title, album name
etc.
Stations that do not support DLS will appear on the display as "NO DLS".
•Signal strength: The display shows a series of symbols from left to right.
The more symbols displayed, the better the reception.
•PTY (Programme Type): This shows the station types according to categories, e.g. Pop, News, Religion,
Info, Classics.
•Names of stations, e.g. DR Deutschland.
•Display and frequency of the set station.
•ERR XX: This shows digital reception’s error rate. This can depend on signal levels and can also be used to
adjust the aerial.
•XX K BPS: Displays the station’s data rate e.g. 80 kbps. This may vary from station to station.
•DABPLUS: Shows a "DAB+" reception.
•Current time.
•Current date.
Menu functions for DAB+
The MENU button opens a menu where you can set various functions for DAB +. Use the TUN+ or TUN-keys
to scroll through the menu. You can set the following functions:
•FULL SCAN: A new automatic station search. Confirm this function with the Enter button.
•MANUAL: This allows you to manually set a specific receive channel. Use the Enter button to confirm your
selection and the display will show the current channel with its frequency.
•Press the TUN+ or TUN- buttons to manually select another station.
•Use the Enter button to confirm your choice. Then, the display will show the signal level and pressing the
button again loads the current station.
•DRC (Dynamic Range Control): If the station you have selected supports this function, you can adjust the
dynamic range accordingly. Potential settings are "OFF", "LOW" and "HIGH". Make the selection using the
TUN+ or TUN- buttons and confirm with the Enter button.
•PRUNE: This will remove invalid stations from the station list. Select with the Enter button, Y / N with TUN+
or TUN- and Enter to confirm.
•SYSTEM: Only for customer service technicians!

Using the FM Radio

Press the DAB button on the remote control or the Source button on the main unit until "FM" appears in the
display.
Setting an FM station
•Press TUN+ on the remote control to scan up through the channels.
•Press TUN- on the remote control to scan down through the channels.
•When you press and hold the TUN+ or TUN- buttons, this starts an automatic station search, which stops
when the next station is found.
•Press the Auto Tune button to start a station search with automatic station storage. A maximum of 20
stations will be saved in the order that they have been found.
•Press the ⏩or ⏪button on the remote control or on the main device to scroll through the memory list. If a
memory location is unused, it will display as "EMPTY".
Saving stations in the station memory
There are 20 memory locations for storing FM stations so you can find them easily. To use the memory, please
do the following:
•Choose the station you want to save.
•Press the PRG button until the display flashes and a memory location appears. "EMPTY" shows an empty
memory slot while an occupied slot is shown by the frequency. You can use a memory location that has
been used before.
•Press the TUN+ or TUN- buttons to choose a memory slot.
•Use the Enter button to confirm your choice. The message "STORED" will briefly flash on the display.
•Choose stations with ⏩or ⏪buttons.
FM Menu functions
The MENU button opens a menu where you can set various FM functions. Use the TUN+ or TUN- keys to scroll
through the menu then press the Enter button to confirm your menu selection. You can set the following
functions:
•SCAN SET: This allows you to automatically store stations when searching. The potential settings are "ALL"
(all receivable stations) or "Strong" (only the strongest stations). Make your selecting using the TUN+or
TUN- keys and confirm your selection by pressing the Enter button.
•AUD SET: Setting for "mono" or "stereo" reception. Select using the TUN+ or TUN- keys and confirm
your selection by pressing the Enter button.
•SYSTEM: Only for customer service technicians!

Using Bluetooth

Using Bluetooth
Press the BT button on the remote or the Source button on the main device until the display shows "BLUE".
Connecting Bluetooth Devices
The Bluetooth function allows music files to be sent wirelessly to the system (audio streaming). To connect
devices (such as smartphones), please follow these steps:
1. Open the connection setting on your Bluetooth device and search for "M-817DAB".
2. Choose "M-817DAB" as your connection and wait until the message "CONNECT" appears in the display
and a tune plays. The connection is now complete.
3. If your Bluetooth device asks for a 4-character PIN, enter "0000".
4. The Bluetooth device has now been saved and will connect automatically in the future.
5. To connect another Bluetooth device, repeat steps 1-3.
Playback using Bluetooth
To play music via audio streaming, please use an audio player of your choice on your Bluetooth device.
You now have the following control options:
•Press on the remote control or on the device to pause or start the playback.
•Press the⏩or ⏪buttons on the remote control or main device to go to the previous or next track.
•Pressing the button stops playback.
•When you press and hold Enter on the remote control or the main device for 3 seconds, this disconnects
Bluetooth. You will see the message "BLUE"on the display. To reconnect, briefly switch to another source,
and then back to Bluetooth.
If the Bluetooth connection is disconnected because it is out of range, an automatic reconnection will be
made as soon as the distance reduces.
Using the Line-In
Playing from external devices
You can connect via Line-in to play back music from external devices such as MP3 players, DVD players or game
consoles.
To select this source, press the Source button on the remote control, or Source on the main unit until the
display shows "LINE IN".

Troubleshooting
For troubleshooting, please check the following:
No sound
-Ensure the plug is properly plugged in.
-Set the volume to the right level.
-Make sure you have chosen the correct source.
The left and right speakers are mixed up
-Check the speaker connections and their locations.
The system is not responding to pressing buttons
-Pull out the plug and then plug it in again.
Problems with the radio reception
-Adjust the aerial.
-Find the best location.
-Use an outdoor aerial if possible.
-Other electrical devices could be disturbing the signal.
-The location is not suitable for DAB+ signals.
CD player is showing "NO DISC"
-Insert the CD with the printed side facing upwards.
-Clean the CD.
-Only use compatible CDs.
USB Operation
"NO USB" - Switch the device off and connect the USB device again.
"NO SONG" -Please ensure that the USB device has compatible data.
Remote control will not function properly
-Change the batteries.
-Remove any obstructions.
-Move closer to the main device and make sure that you are pointing the sensor on the remote
control towards the device.
Maintenance and care
Cleaning the outer casing: Use a damp cloth with a mild detergent. Do not use cleaners that contain alcohol,
ammonia or scouring agents.
Cleaning CDs
•Clean dirty discs using a special cleaning cloth. Wipe the disc in a straight line from the middle to the edge.
Do not use circular motions to clean it.
•Do not use solvents, like white spirit, thinner, commercial cleaning agents or anti-static spray for analogue

Protecting against condensation
Condensation (dew) may build up inside the device if there is a marked difference in temperature between the
device and the ambient room temperature. If condensation builds up inside the device, proper functioning can
no longer be guaranteed. If this does happen, you will need to wait for a few hours. When the moisture has
dried, you can use the device again.
Particular care is needed in the following conditions
If the device is moved from one location to another where there is a significantly higher or lower temperature, or
if humidity builds up in the device, etc.
