Controls and indicators

After adjustment is complete, press

Balances the sound level of the front
and rear speakers in the case of a

Eject switch
Depress to eject
the cassette tape.
T.ADV switch
(Tape advance)
This switch allows you to
locate the beginning of the
required selection. Set to on
and fast forward or rewind
the tape to quickly locate
the required selection.
Cassette tape slot
When a cassette is inserted, it
is automatically fed in and
loaded, and playback starts.
Using the key off eject facility,
if the ignition key is set to off,
the cassette will be ejected.
Play/program switch
\f this switch is depressed during play-
back, the tape travel direction is reversed
and the corresponding indicator lights. If
this switch is depressed during fast for-
ward or rewind mode, the fast forward or
rewind mode is released and the unit
enters play mode.

Memory switch

channel key.
Preset scan switch
The station frequencies stored
in memory by channel keys
(1 — 6) are monitored in se-
quence for 5 seconds. Press
the preset scan switch once
again at the required station or
hold the channel key for con-
tinuous reception.
Channel keys (1 — 6)
These keys are used to store the
frequencies of selected radio
stations. Any 3 stations in FM
and 1 station in AM can be held
in memory.
Seek switch
By depressing the switch once,
the received frequency is varied
from lower to higher until a radio
signal is received. Then seek
operation stops and the unit is
tuned in to a station. To stop
manually, depress the switch
once again.
Up/down keys
When the up key is depressed,
the received frequency varies
from lower to higher; when the
down key is depressed the re-
ceived frequency varies from
higher to lower. A single depres-
sion of the key allows thé fre-
quency to vary one step ata
time. When the key is kept dep-
ressed the frequency changes
continuously.

Insert
the
installation
case
into
the
console
and
secure
by
bending
claws.

wrench.
The
hook
brackets
then
engage
with
the
case
and
the
set
is
fixed.

disengage

hook
brackets.

screws

wrench
should
be
used
for
removing
the
set.
Take
care
not
to
lose
them.
If
the
screws
are
lost,
use
standard
screws

Operation
@ Tape play
1.
When
a
cassette
is
inserted
with
the
tape
on
the
right,
the
power
is
automatically
switch-
ed
on
and
playback
starts.
2.
Select
the
NR
system
and
tape
position
according
to
the
tape
to
be
used.
3.
When
the
play/program
switch
is
depressed,
playback
of
the
reverse
side
of
the
tape
Starts.
4.
To
stop
playback,
depress
the
eject
switch.
The
tape
is
ejected
and
the
power
is
switched
off.
M@ How to tape advance
The
non-recorded
portion
of
the
tape
is
detected
to
locate
the
beginning
of
the
selection
for
playback.
1.
If
you
want
to
hear
the
selection
you
are
listening
to
again
from
the
beginning,
press
the
TAPE
ADV
button,
and
then
rewind.
The
tape
will
stop
rewinding
at
the
beginning
of
the
selection,
and
playback
will
recommence.
2.
If
you
want
to
hear
the
selection
following
the
one
you
are
listening
to,
press
the
TAPE
ADV
button,
and
then
fast
forward.
The
tape
will
stop
at
the
beginning
of
the
next
selec-
tion,
and
playback
will
recommence.
3.
It
should
be
noted
that
the
TAPE
ADV
function
may
not
work
correctly
in
the
following
cases:
—
Tapes
where
the
unrecorded
space
between
selections
is
less
than
5
seconds,
—
tapes
where
selections
include
passages
with
low
recording
levels
lasting
longer
than
5
seconds.

The
KRC-929
incorporates
Dolby
NR
B/C
types
and
the
dbx
NR
system.
Dolby B type NR system
In
general,
Dolby
NR
refers
to
the
B
type
noise
reduction
system.
By
encoding
and
decoding
the
higher
frequency
components
of
a
small
signal,
the
noise
level
can
be
reduced
by
a
max-
imum
of
10
dB
with
O
dB
as
the
reference.
Dolby C type NR system
By
using
the
2-stage
B
type
noise
reduction,
the
dynamic
range
is
expanded
by
10
dB
com-
pared
with
the
B
type
noise
reduction
system.
The
anti-saturation
circuit
encodes
and
decodes
higher
level
signals
by
a
maximum
of
3
dB
to
reduce
distortion
whent
the
input
signal
level
is
high.
dbx NR system
Higher
level
signals
are
reduced
in
level
below
the
saturation
level
of
the
tape
before
being
recorded,
while
lower
level
signals
are
boosted
in
level
above
the
tape
hiss
noise
level
before
being
recorded.
When
these
recorded
signals
are
reproduced,
higher
level
signals
are
played
back
without
distortion
and
lower
level
signals
are
reproduced
without
being
masked
by
hiss
noise.

Operation
M@ Seek tuning
1. Turn the power on.
2. Select AM or FM band.
3. By depressing the seek switch, the received frequency varies from lower to higher until a
radio signal is received. Then seek operation stops and the unit is tuned in to a station.
@ Manual tuning
1. Turn the power on.
2. Select AM or FM band.
3. Push the MONO switch.
4.
Using
the
UP/DOWN
key,
tune
in
to
the
required
station
frequency.
Depress
the
key
once
to
vary
the
frequency
one
step;
hold
the
key
to
vary
the
frequency
continuously.
How to store the selected station frequency in the memory
1. Tune in to a station which you wish to store in memory.
2. Press the memory switch.
3. When the switch illuminates for a few seconds, depress any required channel key.
@ How to perform preset scanning
1. Store a station frequency in any one of 1 to 6 channel keys.
2.
When
the
preset
scan
switch
is
pressed,
the
station
frequencies
stored
in
memory
by
channel
keys
(1
—
6)
are
monitored
in
sequence
for
5
seconds.
3.
Press
the
preset
scan
switch
at
the
required
station
once
again
or
hold
the
channel
key
for
continuous
reception.
@ How to ’’tuner call’’
1. Leave the power set to on.
2. Set the tuner call switch to on.
3.
When
the
tape
is
fast
forwarded
or
rewound,
a
radio
broadcast
can
be
heard.
lM How to set the cassette tape in stand-by
1. Switch on the tuner and tune to the desired station.
2.
When
the
cassette
standby
switch
is
switched
on
after
inserting
the
cassette,
the
cassette
lowers
once,
the
cassette
holder
rises
and
the
cassette
stands
by
with
the
tape
not
touching
the heads.
3.
When
the
radio
signal
becomes
weak
and
reception
deteriorates,
the
unit
is
automatically
switched
over
to
cassette
deck
mode
and
starts
playback
of
the
cassette.
4.
To
set
to
manual
palyback
from
the
condition
in
item
2.
above,
switch
off
the
cassette
standby
switch.
The
cassette
lowers
and
playback
starts.
Cautions:
¢
When
the
cassette
standby
switch
is
on,
even
if
the
tuner
call
switch
is
turned
on,
the
tuner
call
facility
does
not
operate.
e When both the cassette standby switch and the ABSS switch are turned on, cassette
standby operation overrides ABSS operation. However, if no cassette is loaded, the unit
goes into ABSS operation.

Care
and
maintenance
The
power
source
of
this
unit
is
exclusively
DC
12
V,
negative
ground.
If
you
wish
to
mount
the
unit
on
a
vehicle
with
DC
24
V,
please
consult
your
appointed
KENWOOD
dealer.
Do
not
place
the
cassette
tuner
in
a
place
where
the
cassette
tuner
may
be
exposed
to
direct
sunlight,
heat
or
moisture.
Be
careful
that
metal
objects
and
water
do
not
enter
the
set.
If
you
have
difficulty
in
installing
the
set
in
your
car,
please
contact
your
KENWOOD
dealer.
Notes on handing tape
Before
loading
a
cassette,
check
the
tape
for
slack.
If
there
is
slack
tape,
remove
it
using
a
pencil.
Do
not
expose
the
cassette
tape
to
direct
sunlight.
Leaving
a
cassette
at
high
temperature
or
humidity
can
deform
the cassette
shell
or tape.
120-minute
tape
is
very
thin.
Avoid
its
use,
because
it
can
easily
be
twisted
around
the
pinch
roller.
Head cleaning
Magnetic
particles
from
the
tape
adhere
to
the
head
surface
after
a
long
period
of
use,
resulting
in
noise
and
poor
quality
sound.
Clean
the
head
with
cleaning
tape
available
at
your
stereo
shop.
Do
not
use
the
cleaning
tape
more
than
once.
Repeated
use
of
the
cleaning
tape
will
damage
the
head.

When
diversity
system
commander
DC-1000
(option)
and
sub
antenna
are
con-
nected
to
the
KRC-929,
clear
reception
without
multipath
interference
is
possi-
ble.

The
KRC-929
is
equipped
with
an
anti-theft
security
cover.
Insert
the
claw
of
the
cover
into
the
tape
slot.
