Product outline1-1
1. Outline
1.1Outline
This product, ELS-304, has realized as fast as 200A/usec fast load response speed, slew
rate that any other products have never realized so far due to our unique new type of load
circuit. Ideal noiseless rising and falling waveforms that could not be achieved by any
prior art such as simple semiconductor switches have been realized in this ELS-304.
ELS-304 is a new generation high performance electronic load that can be used in
applications where very high-speed load response is necessary such as in evaluation of
characteristics of VRM/POL types of DC-DC converters.
1.2Features
・ Easy to connect, because the Load Terminal is located on the Front Panel.
・ Very fast load response up to 200A/μs.(5V or more should be presented at the load
terminal)
・ Stable frequency response within 3dB up to 500KHz. (Ext. Control+ AC offset Volt)
・ No min. operating volt. Any volt difference drives the operation of this product.
・ Worldwide power input. (100V-240V50/60Hz)
・ Various load modes like CC, CR, CV, CP, Dynamic, Ext. control, Short are supported.
・ In the dynamic load mode, single and auto modes are supported.
・ As the interface, both USB and GPIB are supported as the standard.
By simply connecting to your PC via a USB cable, you can control this product to
measure automatically.
Via GP-IB, you can easily integrate this product to your existent system.
・ Abundant Alarm Functions of Over Volt., Over Power, Reverse Connection, and Over
Heat..
・ By internal Curr. Limit function, “ CV+Climit (Curr. Limit)” operation is supported.
・ Five (5) digits Current. And Voltage, measurement.
・ Up to 6 Meas./Setup Conditions Memory Function.
・ Ripple Noise digital measurement function (factory option)
Ripple noise can be measured by way of our unique method capable of measuring in
digital eradicating human reading error in using an analog.
In fast load response of 200A/μS, there are several cautions about the connection method
and load volt. To be noted.

2.Connections
This chapter describes some instructions about the connections to pull the full potential of this
product.
2.1Power Cable
For a customer in Japan, we attach a AC Power Cable for 1φAC100V with 3-prongplug.
Please be careful when you connect the cable because you may get an electric shock.
・ The Rated of the attached AC Power Cable with 3-prong plug is AC125V. If you
need to use a cable for more than AC125V, please prepare the proper AC
Cable.(This applies to a customer in Japan)
・ Before you connect or disconnect the AC Power Cable, the Power Switch of this
product should be OFF.
・ Connect the Power Plug to the 3P outlet including the GND terminal.

(1) Remote Sense Cable
Never fail to connect a Remote Sense Cable that should be shielded or twisted. If the
Remote Sense cable is NOT used, Volt Meas. at the Load Terminal and Data in each
Load Modes (CR, CV, CP) using the Volt, Reference may have errors.
・ Before you connect this cable, turn off the power of the Target Device.
・ This product have the protection resistor to protect against the reverse
connection at the Load Terminals.
Because of this, the Volt. Meas. value may be lower due to the Volt. Drop of the
resistor. There is no such resistor at he Remote Sense Terminals.

(2) Load Cable
As shown in the Fig2-2-1, please use hexagon nuts and hexagon head bolts when you
connect load cables. Also please use load cables adapted for necessary current
capacity and wire the load cables as short as possible. In addition, twist the load
cables if the cable length is long and/or if possible.

* Negative effect by inductance
Back electro motive force caused by both inductance of load cable and internal
inductance of this product would influence rising time. Needless to say, current could not
be sunk if the voltage drop caused by the back electro motive force exceeds volt between
load terminals, because there is no volt. Potential difference left.
This product is designed to minimize the internal inductance but is not zero, so it is
necessary that some level of voltage potential difference need to be presented between
the load terminals. For example, 2V needs to be presented between the load terminals to
set and realize 50A/usec slew rate. Again, Voltage drop is caused by the inductance of
load cables, it is suggested that the inductance caused by load cables should be minimize
as much as possible.

WARNING
WARNING
・ In case of reverse connection, this product alarms due to internal short condition.
But this product may be damaged if the current caused by the short exceeds
max. rated curr. (120A).
・ When you connect to a target device, never fail to power OFF the target device.
・ Do NOT apply any Volt other than the range (0-30V) any voltage outside this
range would damage this product.
(3) Ext. Control Cable
As for the cable between this product and use a shielded , twisted , or coaxial cable.
Both DC and AC can be inputted, but when you input AC, add the offset Volt. so that
the Volt should not be less than 0V always. The input of product should be in the
range between 0 and 10V, and DC and 500KHz (3dB).
・ Do NOT apply any Volt other than the range (0-10V) Any voltage outside this
range would damage this product.

2.3CURRENT MONITER
This CURRENT MONITER can be used when you observe a current waveform by an
oscilloscope.
・ The CURRENT MONITER of this unit is NOT isolated. Please be careful when
you connect to an oscilloscope. Improper connections would cause damage.
・ Monitor output volt. : 10V/120A, Output impedance : 50Ω(typ.)
