Passenger Air Bag Off
If there is no passenger or the adult passenger is small or out of
position, the front PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator may turn ON.
When this indicator is ON, the front passenger’s air bag will not operate.
Please refer to your Owner’s Manual and the separate brochure
entitled “Your Safety is Important to Kia” for more detailed
information regarding your vehicle’s air bags.
WARNING: Always properly restrain children in the rear seat of
your vehicle. Seat covers must NOT be used because they can
affect how the system operates.
Child Safety Locks
Located on the rear edge of the door, push the child safety lock to
the “lock” position to disable the inner door handles from opening
the rear doors. WARNING: To prevent a child from opening rear
doors from the inside, rear door safety locks should be activated
whenever children are in the vehicle.

Double-Turn Unlocks All*
Unlock all doors and rear hatch (Spectra5 SX) by turning the key toward
the rear of the vehicle twice within 3 seconds. Turn toward the front of the
vehicle once to relock all doors.
Key Fob/Remote Keyless Entry*
Lock: Press the lock button

once to unlock the driver’s door,

NOTE: If doors are not opened, they will automatically relock after 30 seconds.

Fuel Cap/Check Engine Light
Tighten cap at least 3 clicks or more, otherwise the ‘Check Engine’
light in the instrument cluster may illuminate, requiring you to securely
tighten the cap.

and release to completely lower the window. Lift momentarily to stop.

this button to lock all doors, press the rear portion to unlock all doors.

– Oil Pressure Warning: Indicates low oil pressure.
– Door Ajar: One of the doors is not fully closed.
– Charging System Warning: The electrical system
is malfunctioning.
– Parking Brake/Fluid Warning: Fluid level is low.
Parking brake is “ON.”
– Safety Belt Warning: Driver’s safety belt is not fastened.
– Air Bag Warning: Air bag system is malfunctioning.
– ABS Warning: Indicates a potential problem with the
Anti-lock Brake System. Brake pads may occasionally
squeak, that is normal.
– Trunk Lid Open: The trunk lid is not fully closed.
– High Beam Indicator: High beam lights are on.
– Low Washer Fluid: The washer
fluid tank is nearly empty.
– Check Engine: May indicate a problem with the
emission system or A/T.
– Front Fog Lights:* Indicates the front fog lights are on.
– Cruise: Indicates the cruise control is currently enabled.
– Set: Indicates the cruise control function is “ON.”
– Low Fuel: There are approximately 2.25 gallons of
fuel remaining.

Warning Lights:
The warning lights and indicators alert you to situations that may need attention.
Refer to your Owner’s Manual for more information on the function of all the warning lights.

ATachometer: The tachometer indicates number of engine revolutions per minute.
BEngine Temperature Gauge: This gauge shows the temperature of the engine coolant. If the needle
nears the “H” position on the gauge, it indicates
an overheating engine. Do not drive your
vehicle in this condition.
CTurn Signal Indicators: The
indicator will illuminate when the
turn signal control is engaged.
DShift Pattern Indicator:
Indicates shift lever selection.
(Automatic Transmission only).
EOdometer: The odometer indicates
the total distance the vehicle has been driven.
FSpeedometer: Indicates speed of vehicle.
GFuel Gauge: Displays approximate amount of
fuel remaining in the vehicle.

*If equipped.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Detects loss of tire pressure beyond specific limits. A warning
indicator will alert the driver of tire(s) with a low pressure condition, check/correct to extinguish warning
light. If the letters TPMS appear and remain illuminated, this indicates the Tire Pressure Monitoring System is
not functioning properly. Consult your dealer for service. For proper maintenance, safety, and maximum fuel
economy, you must always maintain recommended tire inflation pressures and stay within the load limits and
weight distribution recommended for your vehicle.
HTripmeter: The tripmeter can record individual trip
distances for up to two different trips (A or B). The
tripmeter button (located in the center console) will
reset the meter to “0” if pressed longer than 1 second.

is located to the left of the steering
column. When the parking lights or headlights are on, rotate the
control knob to adjust the instrument panel display brightness to the
desired level.

Light Control: Turn the knob at the end of the control stalk to the
desired position:

High Beams:
Push the control stalk away from you. Pull it back to
revert to low beams.
Turn Signals: Move stalk control up to signal a right turn, or down
to signal a left turn.
Front Fog Lights*
With the headlights on, rotate the control ring

MIST: Push the lever up and release for a single wipe, or hold for
continuous operation.
OFF: Wiper is not in operation.
INT: Wiper operates intermittently. To vary the speed, rotate the

Windshield Washer:
Pull control stalk toward you, hold for continuous spray and wipe.

Cruise Control*
To Set Cruise Control, Do the Following:
1. Push the CRUISE ON/OFF button

on the steering wheel to turn
the system on. The CRUISE indicator light in the instrument cluster
will illuminate.
2. Accelerate to the desired speed (must be more than 24 mph).
3. Activate the SET/COAST switch by pushing the control stalk
downward, and release it at the speed you want. The “SET” light in
the instrument cluster will illuminate. Release the accelerator at the
same time. The desired speed will automatically be maintained.
To Cancel Cruise Control, Do One of the Following:
1. Press the brake pedal.
2. Push the CANCEL switch.
3. Push the cruise ON/OFF button.
To Increase Cruising Speed, Do One of the Following:
1. Activate the RES/ACCEL switch by pressing the control stalk upward
and releasing it. This will increase your current cruising speed by 1 mph.
2. Hold the RES/ACCEL switch, your speed will increase gradually. Let
go of the button when you reach your desired speed.
To Decrease Cruising Speed, Do One of the Following:
1. Activate the SET/COAST switch by pushing the control stalk downward
and releasing it. This will decrease your current cruising speed by 1 mph.
2. Hold the SET/COAST switch, your speed will decrease gradually.
Let go of the button when you reach your desired speed.

Digital Clock
With ignition in “ACC” or “ON” position, the clock buttons operate as follows:
HOUR: Press “H” to advance
the time displayed by one hour.
MINUTE: Press “M” to advance the time displayed by one minute,
or hold to rapidly advance.
RESET: Press “R” to clear away minutes and set to the nearest hour.
NOTE: Hold for more than 4 seconds to toggle between 12 hour
and 24 hour formats.
Rear Window (and Outside Mirrors*) Defrost Button
With the engine running, press to whisk away condensation, snow and
ice from the rear window. This button also heats the outside rearview
mirrors.* Press button again to deactivate. The defroster automatically
turns off after 20 minutes or at engine shut-off.
Tripmeter
The tripmeter can record individual
trip distances for up to two different
trips (A or B). To reset the the meter
to “0” press for longer than 1 second.

an MP3 player is connected.

Press the LOAD button, then insert a CD to
automatically begin playing.

Press the LOAD button, display will instruct: WAIT,
INSERT CD, LOADING CD, READING CD. Repeat
procedure to LOAD multiple CDs.

first 10 seconds of each track in CD/MP3 modes.

Press to select BASS, MID-RANGE, TREBLE,
FADER and BALANCE listening modes, then
rotate the Volume Knob to adjust each accordingly.

knob clockwise to increase or counterclockwise

Lift the cover to access the jack, which provides connectivity for
portable audio devices using 3.5mm plugs.
NOTE: This Auxiliary Audio Input Jack is located to the left of the
Gear Shift Selector.

Manual system functions to operate defrost:
1. When defrost mode is selected A/C is operational,
fresh air vent is open, although A/C lamp is off.
2. Set fan speed 1
to maximum.
3. Set temperature 3
to hot.
4. Select the Defrost .
NOTE: When defrost is selected, outside fresh air and
air conditioning are activated automatically, this will further
reduce window fogging.

NOTE: In defrost mode some moisture
may be visible on the windshield during
cool A/C operation. To eliminate this effect
adjust Temperature Control Knob 3
as
desired. This condition happens more at
night and on cloudy days. Keep inside
glass as clean as possible to help reduce
window fogging.

Manual Gear Shift*
The manual transaxle has 5 forward gears.
1. Clutch pedal must be fully depressed before vehicle can be started.
2. Press the clutch pedal down fully while shifting, release it slowly.
3. Return the gear shift lever to the neutral position before shifting
into reverse.

OFF DOOR
ON
ROOF PANEL CONTROLS
Sunroof*
With the ignition in the “ON” position, operate by pressing the following:
Auto Slide Open: Press Afor less than 0.4 seconds to fully open
automatically. Press again to stop.
Manual Slide Open: Press Ato partially open, hold to open to
preferred position.
Auto Tilt Open: Press
B
for more than 0.4 seconds to fully tilt. Press
again to stop.
Manual Tilt Open: Press
B
to partially tilt open, hold to tilt open to
preferred position.
Close: Press
C
to partially close, hold to fully close.
Map Light
Push switch
Dto turn light on, push again to turn light off.
Dome Light
Set switch to OFF position to keep dome light off, or set to ON position to
keep dome light on. In the DOOR position, dome light will come on when
a door is opened and go off when all doors and hatch (Spectra5 SX)
are shut.

6-Way Manual Adjustable Driver’s Seat
Adjusting the Seat Forward and Backward:
1. Pull up on the seat slide adjustment lever A
under the seat cushion and hold it.
2. Slide the seat until the desired position is attained.
3. Release the seat slide adjustment lever Aand
make sure the seat is locked in place.
Cushion Height Adjustment:
To raise: Pivot the lever

upward several times.
To lower: Pivot the lever

downward several times.
Seat Recline Adjustment:
1. Lean forward slightly and pull up on the
seatback recline lever

2. Lean back on the seat until the desired position
is attained.
3. Release the seatback recline lever

and make
sure the seat is locked in place.

WARNING: Adjusting the driver seat with the vehicle in
motion could cause loss of control and a serious accident.
