Kingston Technology DataTraveler 2000 User manual

1. PRESENTATION
Kingston DataTraveler 2000 USB Key with full-disk AES
256-bit data encryption, has restricted access by the
use of a PIN protection. It can be used on any operating
system: Windows, OSX or Linux.
The PIN code is entered directly on the key’s keypad,
there is no software to install.
Access to the data is by entering the PIN code. Without
the PIN, information is secure and inaccessible.
Note : Make sure you never forget your PIN code,
otherwise the information on the key will be
permanently lost.
2. SETTING UP YOUR KEY
Note : Before use, you must charge the key by
connecting it to a USB port for at least 60 minutes.
By default, the pin code is 11223344. You must
change it. To do this:
1. Press the key button once.
2. Within 10 seconds, enter the default pin code
11223344.
3. Press the key button once
4. Press the key button twice (double click)
5. Within 10 seconds, enter the new PIN code
(between 7 and 15 digits)
6. Press the key button twice (double click)
7. Within 10 seconds, enter the new pin code a
second time.
8. Press the key button twice (double click)
3. AUTHENTICATION -
UNLOCKING THE KEY
1. Press the key button once
2. Enter the user PIN.
3. Press the key button once
4. You have 30 seconds to connect the key to the
USB port on the workstation.
Note: The key will lock automatically if it is not
connected to a USB port within 30 seconds.
4. LOCKING THE KEY
The key can be locked in two ways.
At your initiative: by pressing the key button for 3
seconds.
Automatically: when the key is removed from the USB
port.
5. ENTERING A WRONG USER
PIN CODE
If you enter 10 wrong passwords consecutively, the
data stored on the key is automatically and
permanently erased.
The default PIN code (11223344) is restored.
The key requires reformatting (see 7. Reformatting).
6. KEY RESET (IN CASE OF
FORGETTING THE PIN CODE)
Warning : the data stored on the key will be
automatically and permanently erased.

1. Press and hold digit 7 and press the key button.

click).

7. REFORMATTING THE KEY
In the case where the data has been erased (10
consecutives entries of wrong pin code, or key reset), it
is necessary to reformat the key.
1. Choose a new PIN code (see 2. Setting up your
key)
2. Unlock the key by entering the new PIN (see 3.
Authentication –Unlocking the key)
3. Connect the key to a USB port on a computer
4. The following message appears.
If this message does not appear, refer to the key’s
complete user guide. (chapter 13).
5. Click on "Format Disk"
6. Select FAT32 or NTFS according to your need.
Enter a name in the “Volume label” box.
Click “Start”.
7. Click “OK”
All data will be erased.
8. The computer finishes formatting the key and
confirms that the operation was successful.
The blue LED blinks during formatting the key and
remains lit when the operation is over.
9. Click “OK”.
