What is Arabic Scale?
While so-called"Western"music is based on the use of a single intonation scale
(Equal scale),Oriental music boasts the use of several defferent"Arabic Scal-
es",all,however,based on the lowering of the pitch by 1/4 of a tone of one or
more notes of the standard chromatic scale.
The name"Arabic Scale"is a general term which describes all the possible co-
nfigurations which can be obatined by lowering the pitch(always by 1/4 of a
tone)of one or more notes of the standard chromatic scale.
Where is the Arabic Scale?
The control centre of the Arabic Scale consists of two distinct sections,both
located underneath the LCD screen of the ARK-2187 Oriental.They are the
Arabic Scale buttons and the memory buttons.
The Arabic Scale section is easily identified by the 12 circular buttons laid out
in the same manner as an octave of black and white notes.
The Arabic Scale memory is located above the Arabic Scale.This section gro-
ups together severaldifferent functions.Here's breakdown of each function:
1,2,3: Memory slots for user-programmed Arabic Scale
CLEAR: Cancels the selected Arabic Scale
Store: Memorizes user-programmed Arabic Scales.

You can configure your own Arabic Scale at any time while you play.
1.Set the Arabic Scale of your choice by pressing one or more buttons of the
Arabic Scale section.The led of the buttons pressed lights up to indicate w-
hich notes of the scale are affected.
2.Play on the keyboard,and while playin,activate or deactivate the Arabic
Scale buttons at will.If you press an active button(LED on),it will be canc-
elled(the LED indicator goes lff).
You can also modify an active preset Arabic Scale by adding or removing one
or more Arabic notes to the currently selected scale.
If after modifying a preset Arabic Scale,you press a memory button(1,2,3)
you will canctl the current scale and recall a preset scale.
How to store a user-programmde Arabic Scale?
1.Set a preferrde Arabic Scale using the methods described earlier.
2.Hold down the STORE button.
3.With the STORE button held,press the memory button(1,2,or3)herever
you want to store your Arabic Scale configuration.
NOTE:Arabic Scale memories cannot be saved permanently in the machine's
Flash Memory.After you tum the power off,all memories will be srased.
