2. Important information
2.1 Protection and standards
All equipment is tested and has left the factory in a
perfect, safe condition. In order to maintain this
condition and ensur
e safe operation, compliance is
requi
red with the instructions and warning notes
contained within this manual or imprinted on the
product itself.
The instruments are CE-compliant within the meaning of
ISO 9001
2011/65/EU (ROHS)
2014/30/EU (EMC)
Emmission EMC
EN 61000-6-3:2007 + A1:2011
EN 61000-6-4:2007 + A1:2011
EN 61326-1:2013 (Class A+B equipment)
Immunity EMC
EN 61000-6-1:2007
EN 61000-6-2:2005
EN 61326-1:2013 (Class A+B equipment)
Compliance with local safety regulations, which may apply
to the use of power line operated electrical and electronic
equipment, is strongly recommended.
2.2 Disposal instructions for electrical and electronic equipment
Do not discard old electronic instruments in municipal
trash. For disposal at end of
life, please return this

2.3 Precautions
Compliance with the following precautionary measures
is vital to ensure safe and reliable operation: Check all
equipment packaging for transportation damage.
Report any damage to the freight forwarder and to
Kistler.
The equipment should be used only under the specified
operating conditions.
If there is evidence that safe operation is no longer possib-
le, the instrument must be powered off and rendered safe
against accidental start-up.
Safe operation is no longer possible when the product
shows visible signs of damage
is no longer operating
has been subjected to prolonged storage under
unsuitable conditions

3. Product description
The differential charge amplifier is suitable for differential
ground isolated measuring chains.
3.1 Differential charge amplifier Type 5181A…
The differential charge amplifier converts the charge signal
of differential piezoelectric sensors into voltage or current.
The 18 … 30 VDC supply voltage is galvanically separated
which prevents ground loop issues. The internal compen-
sation electronics eliminates the drift of the amplifier and
compensates low frequency error-currents up to 5 nA.
3.2 Technical data
The technical data of the differential charge amplifier are
contained in the official data-sheet (doc. no. 003-227).

3.3 Execution options
Differential charge amplifier Type 5181… is the non-Ex
version out of the product family 5181/83/85 (non-Ex,
Ex-ia, Ex-nA). This product family is highly flexible. The
different execution options can be seen in the ordering
key. All configurations are pre-set at the factory.
Conversion factor
The charge amplifier has a selectable range for the
conversion factor and contains no reset-function but a
high-pass filter (time constant) in the input stage.
Signal output options
There are different voltage- or current outputs available.
Enclosure options:
1. Aluminum die-cast enclosure
Free choice of installation location, which allows shorter
connecting cables
Robust, sealed, no extra enclosure needed
Connection to charge amplifier
With connector or
Cable gland and terminals for wire connection
2. DIN-rail enclosure is suitable for high channel count.
The enclosure is made of plastic and meets IP30.
Lower cost
Low space required
Simple connection with terminal blocks
