CONVERSION PROCEDURE
After completing this conversion, refer to the
KD-2 7 SERIES DISHWASHERS INSTALLATION IN-
STRUCTIONS to install your dishwasher as a built-in undercounter model.
NOTE: Save all disassembled parts (unless otherwise noted) until conversion is complete.
1. DISCONNECT DISHWASHER FROM POWER AND WATER SUPPLIES.
On machines with a rinse agent dispenser, remove the four screws retaining the front door panel. Remove
panel, then place a small strip of tape over the vent hole in the rinse agent dispenser to prevent fluid leakage
when dishwahser is on its back.
2. Remove lower rack, wash arm, and silverware basket. Close and latch the door. Place dishwasher on its
back and support the top with a block of wood (such as a 2” x 4”). Drain water by placing the drain
hose in a container.
3. Remove two screws (Fig. 1) from lower front panel. Disengage tabs by pushing panel toward the ‘:op
of the dishwasher, and pull panel forward and down to remove. Remove three screws (Fig. 1) holding
stainless steel trim and end caps to lower front panel. Discard trim, end caps, and screws.

4. Electrician: Locate the power cord (Fig. 2) and determine if taped wire nuts or crimped connectors
were used on the black and the white leads. When removing connections, do not pull on the white wire
as other connections may be disturbed. If taped wire nuts were used, remove them; if crimped con-
nectors were used, cut the wires as close to the connectors as possible. Cut the wire tie that holds the
power cord wires to the cross channel. Remove the wiring cover by removing its screw (Fig, 2). Take

the wires removed trom the cord and insert them from the rear of the cross channel through the l/2”
rounded hole. Tape the wires to the cross channel and replace the wiring cover being careful to avoid
pinching the wires.
Remove the grounding screw (Fig. 2) and remove the cord ground wire.
Set the machine upright. Remove and discard the hose coupler housing (Fig. 3). Remove the screws
that fasten the power cord housing (Fig. 3).
Remove the rear panel (Fig. 3) by removing its screws. When removing these screws, remove the four
from each side, starting at the bottom and working up, and then the top two.

Loosen the two screws in the evaporation channel (Fig. 4). Remove the two upper screws from the
front of each side panel (Fig. 4) loosen the two lower screws on each side panel (Fig. 4). Loosen the
two screws (Fig. 4) that hold each side panel to the kickboard. Remove the two side panels and
tighten the ten screws that were loosened.
At the rear of the machine, remove the two screws (Fig. 5) that hold the cord reel to the rear cross
channel.
Remove the screw (Fig. 6) that holds the hose anchor bracket to the rear frame member. Cut the wire
tie (Fig. 6) that holds the hoses to the tank.

Remove the screw (Fig. 7) from the back of each caster bracket.
Lay the dishwasher on its back again.
Remove the two front caster brackets (Fig. 8) by removing the four screws from each one.
Remove the kickboard by removing two screws (Fig. 8) from each end.

6. The two front caster support brackets (Fig. 9) are removed next. Each one has four screws, three of
which must be removed from the inside and one which must be removed from the outside.
Remove the rear casters (Fig. 10) by removing three screws from each one, two from the inside and
one from the outside.
7. Disconnect the fill hose at the compression fitting (Fig. 9) by loosening the compression nut with a
wrench while holding the elbow with another wrench. Retain the compression nut (for use when
connecting the fill line) by cutting the brass tube with a hacksaw between the hose ferrule and the nut
(Fig. 9). A new l/2” compression sleeve will be required when re-using the nut.

Disconnect the drain hose at the drain connection by sliding the hose clamp away from check valve
with pliers, and remove the hose from the check valve.
Grasp hoses and pull them through the side. CAUTION: Do not loosen or disconnect any wires or
connections when removing hoses. Remove the screw and retainer from the hose bracket. The existing
drain hose may be used for making the drain connection upon installation. If the existing hose cannot
be used, a new hose along with any required fittings may be purchased from your KitchenAid dealer.
DO NOT use the existing fill hose to connect water supply to the dishwasher.
8. Set the dishwasher upright. Open the door and remove the two #lO flat head wood screws that retain
the wood top, The angle brackets will remain fastened to the machine. Pull the top forward and lift it
off. The top will not be needed and may be discarded.
9. If the dishwasher is to be installed at the end of a counter, the right or left side panel (whichever side
will be exposed) will have to be re-attached.
Using a hacksaw, cut the hose anchor bracket (removed during step 5) at the scored line. Discard the
smaller of the two pieces. When fastening either side panel, remove the rear panel mounting bracket
(on.top of the tank) from the side on which the panel is to be installed and replace it with the mod-
ified bracket. This bracket, along with the screw and countersunk washer, will be used to secure the
side panel. See Fig. 11.
10. Check to make sure the stainless steel washer is in place on the wash arm support shaft and then re-
place the wash arm, rack, and silverware basket.
11, Hemove tape from rinse agent dispenser and replace the front panel.
12. The dishwasher is now ready for undercounter installation.
