1 Validity
This operating instruction is valid for the INTEC 40KS spring closing unit.
2 Predefined application and maximum load
The spring closing unit INTEC 40KS is a user friendly, robust and easy to mounted safety device for all
quarter turn valves up to the torque requirement indicated under point 5 “specifications”. The valve is
actuated by the hand lever. Upon release of the hand lever the valve will be opened, by the spring-force,
back to the default safe position (open position).
3 Safety
The non-compliance of these safety notes leads to the loss of any claim for damages.
Safety notes:
Beside our safety notes, national rules and regulations regarding the accident prevention, working-,
operating and safety rules of the operator must be kept.
The valve should be opened with manual force in an even manner and not too quickly, since
movements that are too quick or jerky may cause a surge of medium (hydraulic shock) to overload
the system.

The valve is closed automatically via spring tension. After opening the valve, release the hand lever
so that the spring tension closes the valve. Do not help the valve close by turning the lever clockwise.
Never remove the safety catch under the sealing plug, since it prevents the spring from jumping out in
case of improper use.
4 Installation
Before installing the spring closing unit, switch the valve to the closed position using the valve hand lever
(not the lever on the spring closing unit) or a suitable key.
After removing the lever, you can mount the spring closing unit to the valve using the assembly kit, which
consists of a console, coupler and screws, see the following image.

6 Setting the spring-force
The sealing plug at the end of the lever must be unscrewed with an allen key to set the spring closing
force.
Increasing the spring-force:
After removing the closing plug, you will see the safety catch which is screwed into place. Do not
unscrew the safety catch under any circumstances. This safety catch has a drill hole in its centre
through which you can see the head of an allen screw, see also the following image. Turn the allen
screw clockwise (↷) to increase the spring closing force. Once you feel a light stop, you have
reached the maximum spring force. Warning, do not continue turning the screw!

Reducing the spring-force:
After removing the closing plug, you will see the safety catch which is screwed into place. Do not
unscrew the safety catch under any circumstances. This safety catch has a drill hole in its centre
through which you can see the head of an allen screw, see also the following image. Turn the allen
screw counter-clockwise (↶) to decrease the spring closing force. Once the screw stops lightly on the
safety catch while you are unscrewing it, you have reached the minimum set spring force.
Warning, do not continue unscrewing the screw!
7 Marking
All spring closing units are labelled with KLINGER SCHÖNEBERG, Type INTEC 40KS, a size, and their
item and serial numbers.
