17. MAKE SURE YOUR EXTENSION CORD IS THE PROPER SIZE AND
IS IN GOOD CONDITION. Whenusinganextensioncord,besuretouse
oneheavyenoughtocarrythecurrentyourproductwilldraw.Anundersizedcord
willcauseadropinlinevoltageresultinginlossofpowerandtooloverheating.
ConsulttheExtensionCordChartforthecorrectsizebasedonthecordlengthand
nameplateampererating.Ifeverindoubt,usethenextheavierwiregaugecord.
Thesmallerthegaugenumber,theheavierthecord.
18. SECURE THE WORK-PIECE.Useclampsoravisetoholdthework-piece
whenpractical.Usingclampsorsimilarmechanicaldeviceissaferthanusingyour
hand(s)andallowsyoutousebothhandstooperatethetool.Losingcontrolofthe
work-piececancausepersonalinjury.
19. DON’T OVERREACH.Maintainproperfootingandbalanceatalltimes;lossof
balancecancauseyoutofallintotheworkingmachine,possiblycausinganinjury.
20. NEVER STAND ON THE TOOL. Aninjurymayoccurifthemachineistipped
orifyoushouldunintentionallycontactthecuttingtool.
21. DO NOT FORCE THE TOOL. Thetoolwillperformthejobbetterandsafer
atthefeedrateforwhichitwasdesigned.Forcingthetoolcouldpossiblydamage

22. FEED THE WORK-PIECE IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION AND SPEED.
Feedthework-pieceintoablade,cutter,orabrasivesurfaceagainstthe
directionofthecuttingtool’sdirectionofrotationonly.Incorrectlyfeedingthe

work-pieceinthesamedirectionasthecuttingtoolrotatescausesthework-pieceto
bethrownoutathighspeed.
23. NEVER LEAVE THE TOOL RUNNING UNATTENDED. TURN THE
POWER OFF.Don’tleavethemachineuntilitcomestoacompletestop.
24. TURN THE MACHINE “OFF”, AND DISCONNECT THE MACHINE
FROM THE POWER SOURCEbeforeadjustingorchangingset-ups,orwhen
makingrepairs.Anaccidentalstart-upmayoccurcausingpersonalinjury.
25. NEVER USE THE TOOL IN AN EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERE.Normal

29. BEFORE MAKING A CUT, BE SURE ALL ADJUSTMENTS ARE
SECURE. DOUBLE CHECK ALL SETUPS.Makesurethebladeistight
andnotmakingcontactwiththesaworwork-piecebeforeconnectingtothe
powersupply.
30. AVOID CUTTING NAILS. Inspectforandremoveallnailsfromlumberbeforecutting.
31. NEVER TOUCH THE BLADE OR OTHER MOVING PARTS DURING USE.
32. NEVER START A TOOL WHEN ANY ROTATING COMPONENT IS IN
CONTACT WITH THE WORK-PIECE.
33. MAKE SURE THE WORK AREA HAS AMPLE LIGHTINGtoseethe

performinganywork.
34. INSPECT TOOL CORDS PERIODICALLY.Ifadamagedcordisfound,
haveitrepairedbyaqualiedservicetechnicianatanauthorizedservicefacility.
Theconductorwithinsulationhavinganoutersurfacethatisgreenwithorwithout
yellowstripesistheequipment-groundingconductor.Ifrepairorreplacementofthe
electriccordorplugisrequired,donotconnecttheequipment-groundingconductor
toaliveterminal.Repair/replacedamagedorworncordsimmediately.Be
constantlyawareofthecordlocationandkeepitwellawayfromtherotatingblade.
35. POLARIZED PLUGS. Toreducetheriskofelectricshock,thistoolhasa
polarizedplug(onebladeiswiderthantheother).Thisplugwilltinapolarized
outletonlyoneway.Iftheplugdoesnottfullyintheoutlet,reversetheplug.Ifit
stilldoesnott,contactaqualiedelectriciantoinstalltheproperoutlet.Donot
changethepluginanyway.
WARNING:
USE OF THIS TOOL CAN GENERATE AND DISBURSE DUST OR OTHER
AIRBORNE PARTICLES, INCLUDING WOOD DUST, CRYSTALLINE SILICA DUST
AND ASBESTOS. Direct particles away from face and body. Always operate
tool in a well ventilated area and provide for proper dust removal. Use dust
collection system wherever possible. Exposure to the dust may cause serious and
permanent respiratory or other injury, including silicosis (a serious lung disease),
cancer, and death. Avoid breathing the dust, and avoid prolonged contact with

the dust. Allowing dust to get into your mouth or eyes, or lay on your skin may
promote absorption of harmful material. Always use properly fitting NIOSH/OSHA
approved respiratory protection appropriate for dust exposure, and wash exposed
areas with soap and water.
EXTENSION CORDS
Groundedtoolsrequireathreewireextensioncord.Doubleinsulatedtoolscanuseeitheratwoor
threewireextensioncord.Asthedistancefromthepowersupplyoutletincreases,youmustusea
heaviergaugeextensioncord.Usingextensioncordswithinadequatelysizedwirecausesaserious
dropinvoltage,resultinginlossofpowerandpossibletooldamage.Refertothetableshownbelowto
determinetherequiredminimumwiresize.
Thesmallerthegaugenumberofthewire,thegreaterthecapacityofthecord.Forexample:a14
gaugecordcancarryahighercurrentthana16gaugecord.Whenusingmorethanoneextension
cordtomakeupthetotallength,besureeachcordcontainsatleasttheminimumwiresizerequired.
Ifyouareusingoneextensioncordformorethanonetool,addthenameplateamperesandusethe
sumtodeterminetherequiredminimumwiresize.
Guidelines for Using Extension Cords
• Ifyouareusinganextensioncordoutdoors,besureitismarkedwiththesufx
“W-A”(“W”inCanada)toindicatethatitisacceptableforoutdooruse.
• Besureyourextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.
Alwaysreplaceadamagedextensioncordorhaveitrepairedbyaqualiedperson
beforeusingit.
• Protectyourextensioncordsfromsharpobjects,excessiveheat,anddamporwetareas.
SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR ANGLE GRINDERS
DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with your angle grinder (gained from repeated use)
replace strict adherence to angle grinder safety rules. If you use this tool unsafely or

Excessivetighteningcancausethewheeltocrackduringoperation.
9.Becarefulnottodamagethespindle,theange,orclampnut(especiallytheinstallingsurface)orthelocknut.
Damagetothesepartscouldresultinwheelbreakage.
10.NEVERusetoolwithwoodcuttingbladesorothersawblades.Suchbladeswhenusedonagrinderfrequently

OPERATION

duringextendeduse.Applycautionwhenlockingtoolin“ON”positionandmaintainarmgraspon
thetool.
SWITCH ACTION:
Caution:Thistoolhasasafetyfeatureonswitchtopreventfromaccidentlyturningon.
1.Tostartthetool,rstpressdownwardontherearendofswitch,thenslidetheswitch
forwardtothe(ON)position.
2.Forcontinuousoperation,pressthefrontofslideswitchdownwardtolockiton.
3.Tostopthetool,pressdownwardontherearofslideswitch,theswitchwillreturntothe
"OFFposistion.
INSTALLING THE AUXILLARY HANDLE:
WARNING:Alwaysbesurethatthetoolisswitchedoffandunpluggedbefore
performinganyworkonthetool.
Yourgrinderisequippedwithathreepositionauxillaryhandle;itcanbemountedoneither
theleft,toporrightsideofthediecastgearhousing.Generally,arighthandedoperator
willgripthebodyofthegrinderwiththeirrighthandandgripauxillaryhandle,mountedto
theleftsideofthegearhousing,withtheirlefthand.Theoppositegrippingandauxillary
handleplacementisgenerallyusedbyalefthandedoperator.Occasionally,auxillaryhandle
placementneedstobechangedtoaccommodatetherequirementsorrestrictionsofthe
operationbeingperformed.
Tomounttheauxillaryhandletothegrinder,simplysecurelyscrewthehandleintothe
threadedholeontheleft,toporrightsideofthediecastgearhousing.
INSTALLING OR REMOVING WHEEL GUARD:
WARNING:Alwaysbesurethatthetoolisswitchedoffandunpluggedbefore
performinganyworkonthetool.
1.Tomountthewheelguard,loosentheclampleveronwheelguard'sband.
2.Alignthesmallprotrusionontheinsideofthewheelguardbandwiththenotchonthegrinders
bearingcapshoulder,thensliptheguard'sbandontotheshoulderofthebearingcap.
3.Slightlyrotatetheguardsothatitispositionedasshowninthegureonthelastpageofthis
manual.
4.Tightentheclampleversecurely.
5.Toremovetheguard,followtheinstallationprocedureinreverse.
WARNING: Whenusingadepressedcentergrindingwheel,exwheel,wirewheel,cut-
offwheel,orabrasivemopdisc,thewheelguardmustbettedonthetoolsothattheclosedsideof
theguardalwayspointstowardstheoperator.
INSTALLING OR REMOVING DEPRESSED CENTER GRINDING WHEELS:

WARNING: Alwaysbesurethatthetoolisswitchedoffandunpluggedbeforeadjusting,
addingaccessories,orcheckingafunctiononthetool.
1.Mounttheinnerangewiththemachined"ats"sidedownontothespindle.Slowlyrotatetheinner
angeuntilitengagesthecorrespondingmatchingmachined“ats”onthespindleshaft.
2.Slidethewheel,crownsidedownanddepressedsideup,overthespindleshaftandovertheraised
shoulderontheinnerange.
3.Screwtheouterangeontothespindlewiththeshoulderedsidedown.
4.Firmlydepressthespindlelocksothespindlecannotrevolve;thenusethelocknutwrench,turningit
clockwise,tosecurelytightentheouterange.
5.Toremovethewheel,followtheinstallationprocedureinreverse.
WARNING: Alwaysinstallgrindingwheelwiththedepressedcenteragainstthedisc
ange.Failuretodosowillcausethegrindingwheeltocrackwhentighteningtheclampnut.Thiscould
resultinseriouspersonalinjurybecauseoflooseparticlesbreakingoffandbeingthrownfromthe
grinder.Neveruseagrindingwheelwithamountingholelargerthan5/8".Do not overtighten.
WARNING: Alwaysusethesuppliedguardwhenadepressedcentergrindingwheelison
thetool.Thewheelcanshatterduringuseandtheguardhelpsreducethechancesofpersonalinjury.
INSTALLING OR REMOVING AN ABRASIVE DISC:
WARNING: Alwaysbesurethatthetoolisswitchedoffandunpluggedbeforeadjusting,
addingaccessories,orcheckingafunctiononthetool.
1.Mounttherubberbackingpadontothespindle.
2.Placeabrasivediscontothespindle,thentthediscontorubberpadandbegintoscrewtheouter
angeontothespindle.
3.Firmlydepressthespindlelocksothatthespindlecannotrotate,thenusethelocknutwrenchand
securelytightenclockwise.
4.Toremovethedisc,followtheinstallationprocedureinreverse.
GRINDING AND SANDING OPERATION:
WARNING: Neverforcethetool;theweightofthetoolappliesadequatepressure.
Forcingandexcessivepressurecouldcausedangerouswheelbreakage.
ALWAYSreplacethewheelifthetoolisdroppedwhilegrinding.
NEVERbangorhitthegrindingwheelordiscontothework.
Avoidbouncingandsnaggingthewheel,especiallywhenworkingoncorners,sharpedges,
etc.Thiscancaselossofcontrolandkickback.
NEVERusethetoolwithwoodcarvingbladesorothersawblades.Itisonlydesignedfor
grinding,sanding,orwirebrushing.
WARNING: Afteroperation,alwaysswitchoffthetoolandwaituntilthewheel
comestoacompletestopbeforeputtingthetooldown.
ALWAYSselectandusegrindingwheelsthatarerecommendedforthematerialtobe

ground.Ensurethattheminimumoperatingspeedofanyaccessorywheelselected
foruse.
ALWAYSholdthetoolrmlywithonehandonthemotorhousingandtheotherontheside
handle.Turnthetoolonandthenapplythewheelordisctotheworkpiece.Thekey
toefcientoperationbeginsbycontrollingthepressureandsurfacecontactbetween
grindingwheelandtheworkpiece.
Flatsurfacesareusuallybestgroundbykeepingtheedgeofthewheelatanangleof5
to15degrees.Maintainingtheproperangleof5to15degreesbytiltingthegrinderand
continuouslymovingthegrinderbackandforthorupanddownovertheworkarea.Keep
thegrindermovingtoavoidremovingaexcessiveamountofmaterialfromonearea.
Usejustenoughpressuretokeepthetoolfromchatteringorbouncing;normallytheweight
ofthetoolaloneisadequateformostgrindingjobs.Wherethereisachancethatthe
grindingwheelmaygetsnaggedbytheworkpiece,suchaslooseboltsorjaggededges,
causinglossoftoolcontrol,uselighterpressure.
OPERATION WITH WIRE BRUSHES:
WARNING: Innormalwirebrushingoperations,thematerialbeingremovedand
brushbristleswillyoff,goinggreatdistanceswithextremeforce.Thepotentialforserious
injuryexists.Toprotectagainstthishazard,theoperatorandothersintheworkarea
mustwearprotectiveclothingandsafetygoggles.Wearingafullfacemaskoversafety
glasseswithsideshieldsishighlysuggested.
WARNING: Alwaysbesurethatthetoolisswitchedoffandunpluggedbefore

Toinstallthewirebrush,unplugthetoolandplaceitupsidedownallowingeasyaccessto
thespindle.Removeanyaccessoriesonthespindle,thenthreadthewirebrushonto
thespindleandtightensecurelywithanadjustablewrenchwhiledepressingthespindle
lock.
Performwirebrushoperationsinafashionsimilargrindingasdescribedintheprevious
section.Tipthegrinderfrom5to15degreesandallowtheweightofthetooltoremove
materialasdesired.Excessivepressurecausesprematurewirebreakageandbendingover
ofthewires.
