Quick Start Guide
Thank you for purchasing this MANDRAKE Octo Shrieker. We hope you
get many years of pleasure and use from this device and if this is your rst
product from our brand, welcome!
This simple connecting guide should help start you on your journey to
sonic creativity. However, if you wish to know more of the pedal’s hidden
secrets, you can nd more info on the product page at:
kmamachines.com/mandrake
Some quick usage examples:
For an octave-up tone that’s reminiscent of many classic tracks, start
with the FILTER and TIMBRE controls centered at noon. Reduce the DRY
control to zero (fully CCW) and set the OCT+ level control at noon. Using
your neck pickup and playing above the 12th fret will maximise the octave
effect using this type of sound.
While for glorious sludgy and edgy power chords, crank the FILTER
control fully to the left and the TIMBRE control fully to the right. While
Mandrake isn’t designed to track “full” chords accurately (those containing
3rds, 7ths or any other extension), it is very capable of adding its dynamic
presence to power chords and octaves. Using your bridge pickup should
unleash an untamed arsenal of aggression, which is both unique and
decimating!
Turning the FILTER control to the right will help to tame undesirable upper
harmonics from the octave up signal. For maximum compatibility with a
variety of musical styles, use this setting along with the DRY and OCT+
volume controls to simultaneously balance the harmonic content and
volume of the upper octave signal, in comparison to your dry signal.
Reducing the TIMBRE control by turning it left, along with increasing the
FILTER control by turning it to the right, can result in wonderfully glitchy
and lo- effects. These can be subtly blended in with your clean signal,
for underlying “interest” on single lines or arpeggiated phrases.
