Your Kohab Ruru Birdhouse has been designed to go together nice and easily. It has
interlocking tabs that slot together and part-drilled holes for the nails - it couldn't be
simpler. But because of its size, we recommend you ask a friend to help.
To mount it on a fence or wall, use the back piece as a guide for where to place
your mounting screws. To hang it from a tree use strong wire fed through the
mounting screw holes
Simply slot the pieces together and give it a good tap all-around to align the
pieces
Starting with the roof, hammer in the nails in the predrilled holes
Make sure you put the base in with the circular finger pull on the outside (it makes
opening it up for cleaning nice and easy)

Your new Kohab Ruru Birdhouse is designed to provide a perfect nesting environment
for New Zealand's native Morepork Owl. It's made right here in NZ from quality marine
plywood that will last and last. The lucky birds who call it home will be very thankful.
Setting up your birdhouse:
Once you have assembled your birdhouse add 5cm deep of small bark chips, this will
encourage the Ruru to nest. These are easily available at garden centres.
Right spot:
Your Kohab Ruru Birdhouse should be positioned in a dark, quiet sheltered area high
off the ground.
Cleaning your birdhouse:
You should clean your birdhouse out after nesting season. Use a mixture of diluted
disinfectant, we recommend a 5% disinfectant solution. Give the birdhouse a good
scrub inside and out and rise it through fully several times with clean water. Leave it
to dry out naturally. Remember, to always wear gloves when handling birdhouses and
wash them outside
Looking after your birdhouse:
As with all outside wood products you can extend your birdhouse's lifespan with a
little bit of love. We recommend sealing it with raw Linseed Oil. This is safe for wildlife
and easily found in large DIY stores.
