1. WORK SAFETY AND OPERATING RULES
1.1 General principles of work safety
CAUTION!
Read the entire user manual carefully before using the torch.
Failure to comply with the safety rules listed below threatens work safety.
● persons who operate and maintain the heating torches must read this manual or undergo training in using
the torch, health and safety rules and fire protection at the given workplace;
● making any modifications without the manufacturer's agreement will void the warranty. The manufacturer
is not responsible for damages resulting from malfunction of the torch in which changes have been made;
● it is forbidden to carry out maintenance or repairs without disconnecting the torch from the gas cylinder;
● it is forbidden to use the torch with visible defects;
● it is recommended to check the technical condition and tightness of the gas cylinder, connector, regulator,
hose and torch always before starting operation ;
● it is forbidden for minors and untrained persons to operate the torch.
1.2 Detailed principles of work safety
When working with a gas torch, the rules listed below must be followed:
● prepare the torch for operation in accordance with section 8 “Preparing the torch for operation” ;
● if the torch is operated indoors, provide adequate ventilation and fire protection;
● do not direct the flame of the torch to a gas cylinder or a rubber hose supplying gas to the torch;
● do not use the torch near fuel tanks, flammable or explosive materials etc.;
● do not use the torch under the hood of the vehicle's engine compartment, etc.;
● do not check the tightness of the torch and the rubber hose with a flame;
● to slow down the aging process of rubber and plastic components, protect the torch and the rubber hose
against prolonged exposure to high temperatures and solar radiation;
● if any leaks in the valves or connections of the torch components are detected, stop work immediately
and rectify the fault;
● in case of mechanical damage or natural wear of the torch components, it is absolutely necessary to
replace them with new ones;
● during breaks in the operation with the torch, follow the section 9 “Torch operation” .
Always check the technical condition of the torch before starting work (tightness of connections, quality of
the hose and its joints)
2. DESCRIPTION AND ASSESSMENT OF RESIDUAL RISK
2.1. Description of residual risk
Although the manufacturer takes responsibility for the construction and proper marking of the torch, in order
to eliminate hazards during operation and maintenance, certain risk elements cannot be avoided. Residual
risk results from incorrect or improper handling of the torch by the operator. The greatest danger occurs when
performing the following prohibited actions:
● operating the torch without reading the user manual or without training in operating the torch, health and
safety rules and fire protection at the given workplace;
● making any modifications without manufacturer’s agreement;
● carrying out maintenance or repairs without disconnecting the torch from the gas cylinder;
● using the torch with visible defects;
● failure to check the technical condition and tightness of the gas cylinder, connector, regulator, hose and
torch before starting operation ;
● operating the torch by minors and untrained persons.
3

2.2. Assessment of residual risk
Recommendations to eliminate residual risk (for people and the environment) when operating the torches:
● carefully read the user manual and undergo training in operating the torch, health and safety rules and
fire protection at the given workplace ;
● do not make any modifications and repairs without manufacturer’s agreement;
● carry out maintenance or repairs after disconnecting the torch from the gas cylinder;
● check the technical condition and tightness of the gas cylinder, connector, regulator, hose and torch
before starting operation;
● prevent minors and untrained persons from accessing the torch.
CAUTION!
Residual risk occurs in case of failure to comply with recommendations and guidelines listed
above.
3. MARKINGS
The following markings are placed on the torch handle:
manufacturer's trademark
type of gas used (liquefied petroleum gas LPG, propane-butane in gas
form)
The diffuser diameter is engraved on the diffuser (e.g. Ø60)
4. INTENDED USE
The manual single or multi-nozzle heating torches can be used for the following operations:
● laying heat-sealable asphalt-tar paper;
● defrosting objects;
● wood preservation;
● removing oil paints, varnishes, putty, etc.;
● welding of plastics, thermoplastics;
● defrosting large areas;
● carcass singeing;
● other operations that require concentrated heat energy.
OPTIMA manual cyclone torches are used for soft and hard soldering of copper installation
components and other soldering works.
The multi-nozzle wheeled heating torches are designed for the following operations:
● WP7 • W7
- welding asphalt-tar paper on large, flat surfaces (e.g. roofs, bridges, viaducts, etc.).
● WK10 (10-nozzle) • WK10/D3 (13-nozzle)
4

- burning and decontaminating large flat surfaces in livestock buildings (e.g. poultry houses,
slaughterhouses, etc.).
5. DESIGN AND PARTS LIST
The full range of components is listed in the catalogue available on the manufacturer's website
www.koma.zgora.pl .
6. TORCH ELEMENTS
The heating torch comes equipped with:
rubber
hose
for propane-butane (PN-EN ISO 3821/PN-EN 599), orange, internal diameter 6.3mm, length
5m, 10m or custom made, available with or without spiral deflector
spiral
deflector
protects the hose from breaking at the handle
pressure
regulator
regulation: 0.05-0.4 MPa ( M50-V/ST ) or 0.1-0.4 MPa ( 912L ), they maintain the gas outlet
pressure constant.
The M50-V/ST regulator is used with multi nozzle heating torches.
OPTIMA torches do not include a regulator in the set - the OPTIMA hose is adapted for direct
connection with a gas cylinder (connection W-21,8LH G3 / 8 LH)
CAUTION!
Both types of regulators ( M50-V/ST and 912L ) have built-in safety valves that close the gas
supply in the event of a hose damage.
CAUTION!
A detailed user manual for regulators is available on the manufacturer's website:
www.koma.zgora.pl
