a high-quality product. The operating instructions are part of this
product. They contain important information about safety, usage and
disposal. Before using the product, please familiarise yourself with all

Intended use
The key finder is a Bluetooth®4.0 transmission device intended to
locate lost objects, save map locations and remotely control various
smartphone functions via an app. The device is not intended for use in
commercial or industrial environments. The device is not intended for
any other purpose, nor for use beyond the scope described.

Safety
Basic safety instructions
■ This device may be used by children aged 8 years and above and
by persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or
lack of experience and knowledge, provided that they are under
supervision or have been told how to use the device safely and are
aware of the potential risks. Children must not play with the device.
Cleaning and user maintenance tasks may not be carried out by
children unless they are supervised.
■DANGER! Do not allow children to play with the packaging
material! Keep all packaging materials away from children.
There is a risk of suffocation!
■ Check the device for visible external damage before use. Do not
operate a device that has been damaged or dropped.
■ Do not expose the device to direct sunlight or high temperatures.
Otherwise it may overheat and be irreparably damaged.
■ Do not place the device near heat sources such as radiators or
other heat-generating appliances.
■ Keep the device away from open flames (e.g. candles) at all times.
■ Never open the device housing. None of the components in the
device can be serviced or replaced by the user.
■ Do not make any unauthorised modifications or alterations to the
device.
■ All repairs must be carried out by authorised specialist companies
or by the Customer Service department. Improper repairs may put
the user at risk. It will also invalidate any warranty claims.
■ Do not expose the device to water spray or dripping water, and do
not place liquid-filled objects such as vases or open drink containers
on or near the device.

■ Switch the device off immediately if you smell fumes or notice any
smoke. Have the device checked by a qualified specialist before
using it again.
■DANGER! Improper use of batteries can cause fires, explosions,
leakages or other hazards! Do not throw the device into a fire,
since the integrated battery may explode.
■ Comply with all restrictions or prohibitions on use for battery-
powered devices in locations with specific hazard risks, e.g. petrol
stations, aeroplanes, hospitals, etc.
Notes on the radio interface
■ Keep the device at least 20 cm away from a pacemaker, as the
proper functioning of the pacemaker could be affected by radio
waves.
■ The transmitted radio waves can cause noise interference in hearing
aids.
■ Do not use the device with the radio components switched on
in the presence of flammable gases or in a potentially explosive
atmosphere (e.g. in a paint shop), as the transmitted radio waves
can cause an explosion or ignite a fire.
■ The range of the radio waves is dependent on the environment and
the ambient conditions.
■ Data transmissions via a wireless connection can be intercepted by
unauthorised third parties.

Notes on batteries and rechargeable batteries
DANGER
Improper use of lithium batteries can cause fires,
explosions, leakages of hazardous materials or other
hazards!
► Do not swallow the battery; there is a risk of chemical burns.
► The device contains a button cell battery. If this button cell bat-
tery is swallowed, it can lead to serious internal burns within
2 hours that can lead to death.
► Keep new and used batteries away from children.
► If the battery compartment does not close securely, stop using
the device and keep it away from children.
► If you suspect batteries may have been swallowed or inserted
into any part of the body, seek immediate medical help.
► Batteries must never be short-circuited, taken apart, deformed or
thrown into a fire. There is a risk of explosion!
► Chemicals from leaking or damaged batteries can cause skin
irritations when touched. Therefore, use suitable protective
gloves. In event of contact with your skin, rinse off with plenty of
water. If the chemicals come into contact with your eyes, rinse
thoroughly with plenty of water, do not rub and consult a doctor
immediately.
► Do attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. There is a
risk of fire and/or explosion!
► When inserting the battery, note the correct polarity (plus/+ and
minus/−).

♦ Remove all parts of the device from the packaging and remove
all packaging materials.
NOTE
► Check the package for completeness and signs of visible damage.
► If the delivery is incomplete or damage has occurred as a result
of defective packaging or during transport, contact the service
hotline (see section Service).

Disposal of packaging
The packaging protects the device from damage during
transport. The packaging materials have been selected for
aspects of environmental friendliness and disposal, and
they are therefore recyclable.
Returning the packaging to the material cycle conserves raw materi-
als and reduces the amount of waste that is generated. Dispose of
packaging materials that are no longer needed in accordance with
applicable local regulations.
Attaching the nylon strap
♦ Guide one end of the nylon strap through the fastening lug
of the device.
♦ Then, guide the other end of the nylon strap through the lug
and tighten it (see fig. 1).

NOTE
► Alternatively, you can attach the key finder to a suitable surface
(e.g. inside your car) using the double-sided tape.

Inserting the battery
♦ Open the battery compartment by inserting a coin into the slit
and turning the cover anticlockwise. The arrow on the cover must
point to the open lock symbol (see fig. 2).
♦ Insert a CR2032 battery into the battery compartment. The posi-
tive terminal should face upwards (see fig. 3).
♦ Replace the cover of the battery compartment and lock it by
turning the cover clockwise. The arrow on the cover must point to
the closed lock symbol .

Installing the app
Install the Keyfinder app before using the device for the first time. You
can download the free app from the Apple®App Store or Google®
Play Store.
Handling and use
Switching the key finder on/off
♦ Press and hold the multifunction button for about 3 sec-
onds until you hear 2 short beeps and the operating LED
lights up briefly. The device is now ready for use. If there is no
Bluetooth®connection, the operating LED flashes at 3-sec-
ond intervals. Once a Bluetooth®connection is established,
the operating LED goes out.
♦ Press and hold the multifunction button for about 3 seconds
until you hear 1 short beep and the operating LED lights up
several times. The device is now switched off and the operating
LED goes out.

Establishing a connection to a smartphone
Once you have installed the app, connect the key finder to your smart-
phone using Bluetooth®. The connection must be established using
the app settings, not the Bluetooth®settings on your smartphone.
You can connect multiple key finders with your smartphone. These
instructions refer to the operation of the iOS app; the android app
may differ slightly.
♦ Activate the Bluetooth®connection on your smartphone. You
can find a detailed description of how to do this in the operating
instructions for your smartphone.
Open the app on your smartphone. The app will
open on the "Device" page and search for your
key finder BKF 4 A1 automatically.
♦ If the key finder has been detected and the app shows the status
"Disconnected", press the "Connect" button to establish a con-
nection with the device.
♦ Press the button to search for additional key finders to con-
nect with your smartphone, e.g. for your keychain or suitcase.
♦ To remove an device from the list, swipe the corresponding entry
to the left, then press the red "Delete" button.
♦ Press the right-arrow symbol on the connected key finder to
open the sub-menu.

This sub-menu allows you to edit the name of your
device and add a photo.
♦ Press "Anti lose" in the sub-menu to specify alarm functions for
the selected key finder:
- The "Anti lose alert" switch allows you to deactivate the
alarm function of this key finder.
- The "Alarm range setting" allows you to reduce the
sensitivity of the alarm triggers. You can choose from three
options: "Near", "Centre", "Far".
- The slider allows you to set the alarm volume on the smart-
phone in case of disconnection.
- The "Phone sound" menu allows you to choose an alarm
sound that will play in the event of disconnection.
Once the anti lose protection has been activated for the selected key
finder, your smartphone will notify you with an alarm if the key finder
exits the Bluetooth®range.
♦ Press "Find" in the sub-menu to set the alarm volume and alarm
tone on your smartphone for manual release of the alarm.
♦ Press "Disconnect" in the sub-menu to terminate the connection
between your key finder and smartphone manually. The key
finder will sound an alarm for approx. 40 seconds. To interrupt
the alarm, press the multifunction button once.
NOTE
► If you close the app on your smartphone, the key finder will
detect a manual interruption and an alarm will go off for
approx. 40 seconds.

Triggering the alarm
♦ Briefly press the multifunction button twice to trigger an alarm
on your smartphone.
♦ Press the flashing button in the device list of the app to switch
off the alarm.
♦ Press the "Alert" button in the device list of the app to trigger an
alarm on your key finder.
♦ Press the "Cancel alert" button in the device list of the app to
cancel the alarm on your key finder.
Camera remote shutter release
Choose the menu item "Camera" to switch to
camera mode. This menu allows you to use the
key finder as a remote control for your smartphone
camera.
♦ Press the multifunction button to trigger the smartphone
camera.
Settings:
♦ Press the flash symbol to adjust the flash settings of your
camera. You can choose from automatic flash , flash on
and flash off .
♦ Press the cogwheel symbol to specify how many photos your
camera should take (1–10) and the time between photos (1–
9 seconds). By pressing the multifunction button , you can
take 10 pictures at intervals of 9 seconds, for example.

♦ Press the symbol to switch between the front and rear
camera.
♦ Press the window symbol to look at the captured photos.
♦ Press the camera symbol to take a photo manually.
♦ Press the video camera symbol to record a video.
Detection functions
Open the "Location" menu to access the loca-
tion detection functions of your key finder. To use
these functions, you must activate GPS on your
smartphone. You can find a detailed description of
how to do this in the operating instructions for your
smartphone.
♦ Press the multifunction button once to save your current loca-
tion, e.g. the parking position of your car.
♦ Afterwards, press the "Location List" button in the app to display
the saved location on the map.
If you lose the key finder or the object to which it is attached (e.g. your
car key), the last known location is saved automatically.
♦ In the app, press the button "Lost History" to display the last
known location of the key finder on the map.
♦ To remove individual entries (locations) from the list, swipe the
corresponding entry to the left, then press the red "Delete"
button.

Settings
Select the "Settings" menu to adjust the general
settings of your key finder.
Don’t disturb
This sub-menu allows you to deactivate all alarm functions for all
connected key finders.
♦ Activate the "Don't disturb" switch to deactivate all alarm
functions for all connected key finders.
♦ Deactivate the "Don't disturb" switch to reactivate all alarm
functions for all connected key finders.
App password
This sub-menu allows you to specify a four-digit access code for your
app.
♦ Press the "Activate password" button to activate the function.
♦ Then enter your desired key code. You need to enter the code
twice before the setting is saved.
When you start the app the next time, you will be prompted to enter
the key code.
♦ Press "Deactivate password" to deactivate the function.
♦ You will need to enter the last-used key code in order to confirm
the deactivation.

Map switch
This sub-menu allows you to select a map service for the location-
based functions.
♦ You can choose Google Maps or Apple Maps (iOS app only).
Double-click settings
This sub-menu allows you to specify which function to activate when
you quickly press the multifunction button twice in a row.
♦ Press the "Setting to Alert" button to trigger an alarm on your
smartphone (standard setting).
♦ Press the "Setting to Recording" button to activate the audio
recording function on your smartphone.
NOTE
► To stop the recording function, press the multifunction button
twice again.
Recording history
This sub-menu lists all stored audio recordings.
♦ Press the play symbol ( ) to the right of a recording to play it.
♦ Press the pause symbol ( ) to stop playback.
Version
This page shows the currently installed version of the app.
