Your new Kontron product wa developed and te ted carefully to provide all feature nece ary to en ure it
compliance with electrical afety requirement . It wa al o de igned for a long fault-free life. However, the life
expectancy of your product can be dra tically reduced by improper treatment during unpacking and in tallation.
Therefore, in the intere t of your own afety and of the correct operation of your new Kontron product, you are
reque ted to conform with the following guideline .
High Voltage Safety Instructions
A a precaution and in ca e of danger, the power connector mu t be ea ily acce ible. The power connector i the
product’ main di connect device.
Warning
All operations on this product must be carried out by sufficiently skilled personnel only.
Electric Shock!
Before installing a non hot-swappable Kontron product into a system always ensure that
your mains power is switched off. This also applies to the installation of piggybacks. Serious
electrical shock hazards can exist during all installation, repair, and maintenance operations
on this product. Therefore, always unplug the power cable and any other cables which
provide external voltages before performing any work on this product.
Earth ground connection to vehicle’s chassis or a central grounding point shall remain
connected. The earth ground cable shall be the last cable to be disconnected or the first
cable to be connected when performing installation or removal procedures on this product.
Special Handling and Unpacking Instruction
ESD Sensitive Device!
Electronic boards and their components are sensitive to static electricity. Therefore, care
must be taken during all handling operations and inspections of this product, in order to
ensure product integrity at all times.
Do not handle thi product out of it protective enclo ure while it i not u ed for operational purpo e unle it i
otherwi e protected.
Whenever po ible, unpack or pack thi product only at EOS/ESD afe work tation . Where a afe work tation i not
guaranteed, it i important for the u er to be electrically di charged before touching the product with hi /her hand
or tool . Thi i mo t ea ily done by touching a metal part of your y tem hou ing.
It i particularly important to ob erve tandard anti- tatic precaution when changing piggyback , ROM device ,
jumper etting etc. If the product contain batterie for RTC or memory backup, en ure that the product i not placed
on conductive urface , including anti- tatic pla tic or ponge . They can cau e hort circuit and damage the
batterie or conductive circuit on the product.

Lithium Battery Precautions
If your product i equipped with a lithium battery, take the following precaution when replacing the battery.
Danger of explosion if the battery is replaced incorrectly.
Replace only with ame or equivalent battery type recommended by the manufacturer.

General Instructions on Usage
In order to maintain Kontron’s product warranty, this product must not be altered or modified in any way. Changes or
modifications to the product, that are not explicitly approved by Kontron and described in this user guide or received from
Kontron Support as a special handling instruction, will void your warranty.
This product should only be installed in or connected to systems that fulfill all necessary technical and specific environmental
re uirements. This also applies to the operational temperature range of the specific board version that must not be exceeded. If
batteries are present, their temperature restrictions must be taken into account.
In performing all necessary installation and application operations, only follow the instructions supplied by the present user guide.
Keep all the original packaging material for future storage or warranty shipments. If it is necessary to store or ship the product
then re-pack it in the same manner as it was delivered.
Special care is necessary when handling or unpacking the product. See Special Handling and Unpacking Instruction.

General Safety Instructions for IT Equipment
Please read this chapter carefully and take careful note of the instructions, that have been
compiled for your safety and to ensure to apply in accordance with intended regulations. If
the following general safety instructions are not observed, it could lead to injuries to the
operator and/or damage of the product; in cases of non-observance of the instructions
Kontron is exempt from accident liability, this also applies during the warranty period.
The product ha been built and te ted according to the ba ic afety requirement for low voltage (LVD) application
and ha left the manufacturer in afety-related, flawle condition. To maintain thi condition and al o to en ure afe
operation, the operator mu t not only ob erve the correct operating condition for the product but al o the following
general afety in truction :
The product mu t be u ed a pecified in the product documentation, in which the in truction for afety for the
product and for the operator are de cribed. The e contain guideline for etting up, in tallation and a embly,
maintenance, tran port, and torage.
The on- ite electrical in tallation mu t meet the requirement of the country' pecific local regulation .
If a power cable come with the product, only thi cable hould be u ed. Do not u e an exten ion cable to connect
the product.
To guarantee that ufficient air circulation i available to cool the product, en ure that if the product ha
ventilation opening the opening are not covered or blocked. If an air filter i provided, thi hould be cleaned
regularly. Additionally, make ure the y tem i well ventilated by ob erving if heat-di ipating element are
covered/ob tructed by object a thi can cau e a build-up of heat and top heat from being di per ed into the
ambient environment.
Do not place the y tem clo e to heat ource or damp place .
Only product or part which fulfill the requirement of SELV circuit (Safety Extra Low Voltage) a tipulated by
IEC 60950-1 may be connected to the available interface .
Before opening the product, make ure that the product i di connected from the main . Complete di connection
i only po ible if the power cable i di connected and removed. En ure that there i free and ea y acce to enable
di connection.
If the product i opened for the in ertion or removal of expan ion device (depending on the configuration of the
y tem), thi may only be carried out by qualified per on .
If exten ion are made to the product, the following mu t be ob erved:
All effective legal regulation and all technical data for the expan ion device are adhered to.
The power con umption of any expan ion device doe not exceed the pecified limitation .
The current con umption of the y tem doe not exceed the value tated on the product label.
Only original acce orie that have been approved by Kontron can be u ed.

To guarantee afe operation of product with DC power upply voltage larger than 60 volt DC or a power

The product doe not generally fulfill the requirement for "centralized DC power y tem “ (UL 60950-1, Annex
NAB; D2) and therefore may not be connected to uch product !

Kontron’ KBox A-330-MX6 i developed pecifically for control cabinet application with flexible DIN rail mounting
po ition for u e when pace i limited. The fanle de ign en ure a ignificantly prolonged life pan and high
y tem availability.
The KBox A-330-MX6 i an indu trial grade box PC ba ed on a ingle board computer with i.MX6 (Arm® Cortex® A9)
Dual proce or de igned for u e in demanding application . Due to the varied amount of onboard interface uch a
dual fa t Ethernet, USB 2.0, HDMI, digital IO and erial port , the KBox A-330-MX6 enable connectivity for nearly all
application and upport be ide the on board eMMC memory , expandability via SD card .

not recommend opening the system as this may cause damage to internal components.

All part are delivered together in a product pecific cardboard package de igned to provide adequate protection and
ab orb hock. Kontron recommend keeping the packaging to tore or tran port the product.

Before working with the KBox A-330-MX6, Kontron recommend that u er take a few minute to learn about the
variou part of the KBox A-330-MX6.
The KBox A-330-MX6 i a flexible indu trial grade box computer fanle device de igned for u e in demanding
application requiring a flexible rapid rail attachment olution. Ba ed on the i.MX6 (Arm® Cortex® A9) Dual proce or
the KBox A-330-MX6 feature long-term availability and upport a varied amount of onboard interface to enable
connectivity to nearly all application . An SD card ocket upport memory expan ion for flexible data torage.
All variant are available in a robu t teel cha i , de igned for operation in a DIN rail environment u ing a vertical
orientation.

5.1.1. Power onnector
There i one 2-pin power connector on the front panel upporting an input DC voltage range of 9 VDC to
32 VDC, ee Figure 4 (po .1). The mating connector required to connect the power connector to a DC main power
ource i not upplied with the KBox A-330-MX6. For information on how to connect the upplied mating connector to
the front panel input power connector, refer to Chapter 9.2.1: Wiring the DC Mating Power Connector.
For the pin a ignment of the Input power connector, refer to Chapter 12.2.1: Input Power Connector.
5.1.2. Protective Earth
The GND pin of the power connector i connected to protective ground of the electronic and al o to the metal
hou ing of the KBox A-330-MX6.
5.1.3. HDMI
There i one HDMI 1.4 interface (1920 x1080 pixel re olution), for video/audio olution , ee Figure 4 (po .9).
For the pin a ignment of the HDMI connector, refer to Chapter 12.2.2: HDMI Connector.
5.1.4. Ethernet (LAN1, LAN2)
There are two LAN port both upporting 10/100 Mbit Ethernet, ee Figure 4 (po .3).
For the pin a ignment of the RJ45 Ethernet connector , refer to Chapter 12.2.3: ETH RJ45 Connector (X6, X7).
5.1.5. USB 2.0
There are two USB 2.0 port allowing for the connection of a USB 2.0 compatible device , ee Figure 4 (po .2).
For the pin a ignment of the USB 2.0 connector, refer to Chapter 12.2.4: USB Port.
5.1.6. Debug Port
There i a Debug port over UART with a Micro USB connector, ee Figure 4 (po .7).
You need an additional adapter to tran late the 3.3V-UART ignal (provided on the Micro-USB port) to USB.
5.1.7. Serial Ports & AN
There i a ingle erial port upporting RS232 RX/TX, ee Figure 4 (po .4).
The RS485 port Figure 4 (po . 5) contain al o the wiring for CAN.

5.1.8. GPIO Ports
There i a ix port GPIO interface available on the front panel of the KBox A-330-MX6, ee Figure 4 (po .6).
The voltage level i 24VDC nominally. It can be u ed a output (24VDC out – high ide driver ) or direct input with
24VDC.
