RECEIVING
Yourunitwasbuilt,packaged,andinspectedwithextremecare.Weshippedittoyouusing
carrierswetrustwithaproventrackrecordofcarefulhandling,goodcustomerservice,andon
timedelivery.Unfortunately,regardlessofalloftheseeffortssometimesaccidentshappenand
occasionallythoseaccidentsresultinshippingdamage.Whenthecarrierpickedupthe
merchandisefromus,theyassumedresponsibilityforitsconditionenroutetoyou.Thus,any
claimsforshippingdamagemustbefiledwiththecarrier.Likeanybodyelse,carriersdon’tlike
topayoutoninsuranceclaims,sotheirclaimsproceduresandrequirementsarevery
restrictive.Youshouldconsultthecarrier’swebsitefortheirspecificclaimsprocedures.You
shouldalsoknowthattimeisoftheessence.
Therearetwogeneraltypesofshippingdamage.Thefirstisvisibledamage.Thistypeof
damageincludesvisibleloss,damage,shortageoranyexternalevidenceoflossordamagethat
isvisibleattimeofdelivery.Thistypeofdamagemustbenotedindetailonyourdelivery
receipt.Makesurethedriversignsanddatesthedeliveryreceipt,acknowledgingthe
damage.Thishastohappenatthetimeofdeliveryoritwon’thappenatall.Keepacopyfor
yourrecordsandsendanothertothecarrier’sdamageclaimsdepartmentalongwithaformal
requestforaninspectionreport.Followupwithaphonecall.Theircontactinformationcanbe
foundonthecarrier’swebsite.
Thesecondtypeofshippingdamageisconcealeddamage.Thistypeofdamagewillprobably
notbeapparentattimeofdeliveryandmaynotbediscovereduntilunpackingandinspecting
theunit.Remember,timeisoftheessencehere.Youshouldunpackandinspecttheunitas
soonaspossible.Eachdaythatpassesreducesthelikelihoodthatthecarrierwillpaytheclaim.
Assoonastheconcealeddamageisdiscovered,stopunpackingandretainallpacking
materials.Contactthecarrierbyphonetoreporttheclaim.Notethedateandtimeand
personyouspokewith.Getaclaimnumber.Followupwithawrittenletterreferencingthe

INSTALLATION
UNCRATING–Moveyourrefrigeratorasclosetothefinallocation
aspossiblebeforeunpacking.Removethewoodenplanksor
skid.Thelocationshouldbeascloseaspossibletothepower
outletsoanextensioncordisnotneeded.Thisunitrequiresa
minimumof4inchesofairflowspaceinbackand3incheson
thesidesandtop.Donotstorematerialonthetopofthis
unit.
PLEASENOTE!Yourrefrigeratororfreezerisdesigned
forINDOORUSEandshouldbeoperatedinanairconditioned
spacewithtemperaturebetween65°Fto85°F.
LEVELINGYoucanlevelyourunitwiththescrew‐typeadjustablelevelinglegsonthefront
cornersoftheunit.Turncounterclockwisetoraisethecorner;turnclockwisetolowerit.
Levelinglegsarerequiredinfrontonly.Unitmayhaveaslighttiltfromfronttobackafter
legsareinstalled.Thisisacceptableandisrecommendedonthisunit.
POWERSOURCE–Thisunitisequippedwith18INFACTORYSEALEDWIRING.THESEWIRES
MUSTBEHARDWIREDTHROUGHSEALEDCONDUITTOTHEPOWERSOURCEPERNFPAAND
NEC.VOLTAGESHOULDNOTVARYMORETHAN5%FROMSERIALPLATERATINGS.
PROTECTTHECIRCUITWITHA20AMPDELAY‐TYPEFUSEORCIRCUITBREAKER.
STARTING–Therearenocompressorshippingboltstoloosenorvalvestoopen.Allthatis
necessaryaftertheunithasbeenproperlyconnectedandleveledistoenergizethecircuit.
Whenstartingthisnewappliance,allowthecabinettooperateaminimumofeighthours,
oruntilithasstartedcyclingnormally,beforeplacingproductinthecabinet.Themotor
compressormaystartandstopseveraltimeswhentheunitisfirststartedorafter
defrosting,especiallyiftheweatherisveryhot.Thisisnormaloperationofthemotor
overloadprotector.Themotorcompressorwillcyclenormallyassoonastheexcessheat
hasbeenremoved.

ShelfInstallation(FORREFRIGERATORSONLY)
Hookshelfclipsontopilasterstrips(seeIllustration).Positionallfourshelfclipsequalin
distancefromthefloorforflatshelves.Wireshelvesareorientedsothatcrosssupportbarsare
facingdown.
Placeshelvesonshelfclipsmakingsureallcornersareseatedproperly.
Temperaturecontrol
NOTE:Allofthesecontrolsarepresetatthefactorytoprovidethedesiredairandproduct
temperaturesinsideoftheunitsandrequirenofurtheradjustment.Pleasecontactthe
manufacturersTechnicalSupportDepartmentbeforemakinganyadjustmentstodetermineif
adjustmentisnecessaryand,ifso,tomakesureitisperformedproperly.
Bothrefrigeratorsandfreezershaveamanualthermostatlocatedinsidethemetallicsealedbox
nearthetoprearcorneroftheunit.Thisthermostatcontrolsthecompressor.Turningthe
thermostattowardsthehighernumberswillmaketheunitcolder.Lowernumberswillmakeit
warmer.Turningthethermostattotheoffor0positionwillturntheunitoff.Forcombounits
(refrigeratorandfreezer),thisthermostatcontrolsthecompressorbasedonfreezer
temperature.Temperatureintherefrigerationcompartmentiscontrolledbyventingairfrom
thefreezercompartment

RefrigeratorandFreezerOperation
Aftertheunitisproperlyinstalledandpowerisapplied,itwilltakesometimebeforethe
systemiscooleddowntotemperatureandcyclingnormally.Youshouldwait8hoursonthe
firststartupbeforebeginningtoaddproducttotheunit.Thisensuresthattheunitisinstalled
andoperatingproperlybeforebeingputintoservice.Onsubsequentstartups(aftercleanings,
forexample),thiswaittimecanbereducedtoabout3hours.Afterthiswaittime,theunit
shouldbecyclinginthedesigntemperaturerange.Theunitsarecalibratedbeforeleavingthe
factory,sonoadjustmentshouldbenecessary.
Loadingtheunitswillagaincausetemperaturetoriseasthewarmerproductisintroducedinto
thecompartment.Ifalargeamountofproductistobeintroduced,itisagoodideatodoitin
stages,allowingseveralhoursbetweenstagestoallowtemperaturetostabilizeagainbefore
introducingadditionalwarmproduct.Thiswillminimizethetemperaturetransientwhile
loading.Othertipsforsuccessfulloadinginclude:
‐Leaveabout2‐3inchesoffreespacealongthebackandsidesoftheunittoallowforproper
airflowand,therefore,moreevencoolingoftheproduct.
‐Whenloadingthetopshelf,avoidblockingtheevaporatorfan(s)(ifinstalled).Thereshould
beatleast4inchesofclearancebelowthefan(s)toallowproperairflow.
‐Donotoverloadtheunit.Afullloadisabout70to75%full.Additionally,theloadshouldbe
distributedevenlyfromtoptobottomandsidetosideforbestresults.
‐Minimizethetimethedoorisopen.Ontopoflettingthecoldairout,youarealsoletting
warm,moistairinwhichcanresultinmorecondensationand/orfrostintheunit.
Rememberthattheunitsarecalibratedtothedesigntemperaturerangebeforeleavingthe
factory.Wealsodoextensivetestingtoensurethatthesetemperatureswillresultinproduct
temperaturesinthedesiredband.Thereshouldbenoneedtoadjustthetemperaturecontrol
ontheseunits,butifitisnecessary,theycanbeadjustedusingthemanualthermostatonthe
backoftheunit.
ItisSTRONGLYRECOMMENDEDthatyoucontactthemanufacturer’sTechnicalSupport
Departmentpriortoperforminganytemperatureadjustmentstoensuretheadjustmentis
necessaryand,ifso,itisperformedcorrectly.

3. Makesurethereisawatertrap(U‐shapedloop)inthedraintubeneartheend.Thiswill
“trap”asmallamountofwaterintheloopandpreventairfromenteringthechamber
throughthetube.
BEFORECALLINGTHEMANUFACTURER’STECHNICALSUPPORTDEPARTMENT,pleasehavethe
unit’smodelandserialnumberreadyaswellastheproblemdescription.Themodelandserial
numberislocatedontheserialtagwhichcanbefoundontheinteriorleftupperwallofthe
unit.

Freezersshouldbedefrostedwhenever¼to½inchoffrosthasaccumulated.Usetheproceduresinthe
defrostingsectionstartingatthebottomofthispageforbestresults.

DEFROSTING(FREEZERSANDCOMBOUNITSONLY)
Itisimportanttodefrostandcleanthefreezerwhen¼to½inchoffrosthasaccumulated.Frost
maytendtoaccumulatefasteronupperpartofthefreezerduetowarm,moistairenteringthe
freezerwhenthedoorisopened.Betweendefrostevolutions;youcanminimizefrostbuild‐up
byusingaplasticscrapertoremovefrost.Scrapewithapullingmotion.Neveruseametal
instrumenttoremovefrost.Neveruseadampclothorwethandsastheywillsticktotheinside
surfaceswhencold.Whendefrostingbecomesnecessary,disconnectfreezerfrompower
sourcebyunpluggingtoavoidelectricalhazard.DONOTADJUSTTHETHERMOSTAT.Remove
theproductandleavethedooropenwhiledefrostingthefreezer.

Onuprightunitswithadefrostdrain–removethedrain
plugontheinsidefloorofthefreezerbypullingstraight
out.Toaccesstheexternaldraintubeonmodelswitha
basepanel,firstremovethetwoscrewsfromthebase
panel.Locatethedraintubeneartheleftcenterunder
thefreezer.Placeashallowpanunderthedraintube.
Defrostwaterwilldrainout.Checkthepanoccasionally
toensureitdoesnotoverflow.A½inchgardenhose
adaptor(availableatmosthardwarestores)canbeused
todrainthefreezerdirectlyintoafloordrain.Replacethe
drainplugwhendefrostingiscompletesowarmairdoes
notenterthefreezerthroughthehole.
Defrostingtips–Ifthefrostissoft,removeitwitha
plasticscraper.Ifthefrostisglazedandhard,filldeep
panswithhotwaterandplacetheminsideonthefreezer
bottom.Closethefreezerdoor.Frostshouldsoftenin
about15minutes.Repeatthisprocedureasnecessary
untilallfrostisremoved.
Afterdefrosting‐replacethedrainplugs(ifapplicable)andremoveanytowels,tools,orpans
fromtheinteriorofthefreezer.Cleantheinteriorandexterioroftheunitusingthecleaning
suggestionsonthepreviouspage.Plugtheunitbackinandrestoreittoserviceperthe
operationsectionofthismanual.

cabinetandallpartsthereof,tobefreefromdefectsinmaterialorworkmanship,whensuchunitisinstalled,used,
andmaintainedinaccordancewithprovidedinstructions,foraperiodoftwo(2)years.Thewarrantyperiodstarts
twoweeksfromthedateofshipmentfromHorizonScientific,Inc.Thistwoweekperiodallowsampleshipping
timesothatthewarrantywillgointoeffectatapproximatelythesametimeyourequipmentisdelivered.Unless
subjecttopriorwrittenagreementwithHorizonScientific,Inc.,thiswarrantydoesnotallowforanywarrantystart
defermentgreaterthantwoweeksfromdateofshipmentduetoadelayedinstallationand/orstart‐up.By
purchasinganyproductfromHorizonScientific,Inc.,youandanyentityforwhichyouarepurchasingacknowledge
andagreetoeachandeveryprovisioncontainedherein,andallotherNoticesandTermsprovidedtoPurchaserby
HorizonScientific,Inc.,whichareherebyincorporated.
Underthiswarranty,HorizonScientific,Inc.,throughitsauthorizedserviceorganizations,willrepair,oratits
option,replaceanypartfoundtocontainamanufacturingdefectinmaterialorworkmanshipwithoutchargeto

hermeticallysealedcompressorstobefreefromdefectsinbothmaterialandworkmanshipundernormaluseand
serviceforaperiodofthree(3)additionalyearsfromtheendoftheinitialtwo(2)yearwarrantyperiod,butnotto
exceedfive(5)yearsaftershipmentfromHorizonScientific,Inc.
CompressorsdeterminedbyHorizonScientific,Inc.tohavebeendefectivewithinthisextendedtimeperiodwill,at
HorizonScientific,Inc.'soption,beeitherrepairedorreplacedwithacompressororcompressorpartsofsimilar
designandcapacity.
Thethree(3)yearextendedcompressorwarrantyappliesonlytohermeticallyandsemi‐hermeticallysealedparts
ofthecompressoranddoesnotapplytoanyotherpartsorcomponents,including,butnotlimitedto,cabinet,
paintfinish,temperaturecontrol,refrigerant,meteringdevice,driers,motorstartingequipment,fanassemblyor
anyotherelectricalcomponents.
HorizonScientific,Inc.’ssoleobligationunderthiswarrantyislimitedtoeitherrepairorreplacementofparts,
subjecttotheadditionallimitationsbelow.Thiswarrantyneitherassumesnorauthorizesanypersontoassume
obligationsotherthanexpresslycoveredbythiswarranty.

determineshavebeensubjectedafterthedateofmanufacturetoalteration,neglect,abuse,misuse,accident,
damageduringtransitorinstallation,fire,floodorotherexternalcauses.Itdoesnotapplytodefectsresulting
fromfailuretoproperlyinstall,operateormaintaintheproductinaccordancewiththeprintedinstructions
provided,ordamagecausedbythestorageofanycorrosivematerialthatcomesincontactwiththeinterioror
exteriorportionsofthecabinet,ortheuseofsparkproducingequipmentorcontainers(suchasgalvanizedor
carbonizedsteelcontainers)thatcomeincontactwithanyinteriorportionofthecabinet.

enforcementofthiswarranty,regardlessofconflictsoflawprinciples.Purchaseragreesthatpropervenueforany
actiontoenforcethetermsofthiswarrantyshallbetheDorchesterCountyDistrictCourts,SouthCarolina.
PurchasersubmitsthejurisdictionofsuchcourtsoverthePurchaserandthesubjectmatterofanysuchaction.

purchase,dateofinstallation,andallpertinentinformationsupportingtheexistenceoftheallegeddefect.Any
repairsmustbeauthorizedbyHorizoninorderforthewarrantytobehonored.
