Using the BLE Printer with LaMotte Meters
The BLE Mobile Printer can be used with the BLE family of LaMotte meters and the
BT family of LaMotte meters. It cannot be used with LaMotte meters prior to the
BT family of meters.
The meter family identity can be found in three places:
∫ The splash screen when the meter is powered on. Meters in the BLE family
will have “BLE” as part of the meter name that is shown on the splash screen.
The family identity of a meter with a splash screen that does not show BLE or
BT can be identified by one of the following methods.
∫ The firmware version number that is visible on the bottom left corner of the
display when the meter is powered on. The firmware version number for a
BLE meter will start with a 3 or 4. The firmware version number for a BT meter
will start with a 2.
∫ The label on the bottom of the meter.
The Bluetooth Pairing procedure and the Printer Setup
procedure are different for the BLE family of meters and the BT family of meters.

Charging the Batteries
∫ When the printer is received there may be little or no charge in batteries. The
printer should be turned off, connected to the charger, and allowed to charge
for 16 hours before the first use.
∫ The printer can remain permanently connected to the MPS power adapter to
trickle charge the batteries.
∫ To fast charge the batteries, the printer must be off.
∫ The charger cannot supply the full power requirements for the printer during
printing, so the batteries must be partially charged before printing is possible.
∫ It is recommended to connect the printer to the charger and recharge the
batteries as soon as the Status LED indicates low battery.
∫ If the batteries become exhausted, printing will become faint, erratic, or not
possible at all. Turn off the printer and recharge the batteries for at least 15
minutes before attempting further printing.
∫ The printer incorporates a low-power mode. The printer will not enter the low
power mode if the charger is attached.
Bluetooth Connection
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is enabled by default.
Troubleshooting
Self Test
The self test procedure will check most of the printer functions, except for the
serial interface, i.e.: printer mechanism, control circuitry, firmware version and
print quality.
1. Turn the printer off.
2. Press and hold the Mode button for approximately 2 seconds.
3. Release the button. The printer will power on and print a self-test report.

LED Status Indicators
The LED indicators will report the condition of the printer. If there is a fault, the
LED indicators will flash in sequence. The fault can be identified by counting the
number of flashes.
LED Indication Condition Solution
On Printer On -
Off Printer Off -
Short flash every second Fast Charging -
* * * Paper out Replace paper
** ** ** Thermal head too hot Allow head to cool
*** *** *** Dead battery (no charge remaining) Recharge battery
**** **** **** Battery low (20% charge remaining) Recharge battery
Out of Paper
The printer will automatically detect when the printer paper has run out, and
report this using the Status LED. Use the Mode button to feed through the last few
inches of paper and insert a new roll.
Thermal Head Overheated
After extensive printing, the print head temperature may rise to an unusable level.
The Status LED will indicate when this occurs. Printing will be suspended until the
head temperature returns to normal levels.
Disposal
At the end of its working life the printer should be disposed of in accordance with
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Regulations (“the WEEE Regulations), if in use
within the EU, and in accordance with national requirements in other countries.
