CAUTION:
• The LeakSmart Snap Valve Controller is designed to be installed
on an existing main water shut o valve.
• To avoid injury, never place your ngers near the snap valve
controller while it is operating.
• Do not install on re suppression systems/re sprinkler water lines.
• For indoor use only.
To set up the LeakSmart System, you need:
• Wi-Fi
• An iOS or Android phone or tablet
• A free LeakSmart account
Setup Requirements
Important Installation Information
Note: LeakSmart devices include Wi-Fi and a local RF
network called Zigbee. If power or Wi-Fi goes down,
the devices continue to communicate through Zigbee
to protect your home.
Password Requirements:
•
Is between 8-19 characters
• Has at least one number or special character
• Has at least one capital letter and one lower case letter
Download the LeakSmart app from the Apple App Store or
Google Play on your smart phone or tablet.
Open the app and tap create an account.
Follow the instructions in the app to create your account.
Review your information and agree to the terms of use.
After you create the account, check your email to activate and verify
the account.

Activate Account
Go to your email.
Open the email from noreply@mywateralerts.com.
Tap the activate your account link in the email.
Look for the on-screen conrmation.
Log in to your account in the LeakSmart app.

Place the hub in a location central to the other LeakSmart
devices.
Plug the hub 3.0 in, using the AC power adapter cord (6’ reach).
• The hub 3.0 contains a rechargeable lithium battery,
intended to be a backup in the event of a power outage.
• The hub 3.0 cannot be registered/activated on battery
power; it must be plugged in.

Note: Your email will be your LeakSmart account name.

Log into the LeakSmart app.
Tap Add Hub.
Back out of - but do not close - the LeakSmart app.
Open the phone or tablet settings.
Open Wi-Fi settings.
• The LeakSmart Hub should appear in your list of available
networks as LeakSmart-XXXX.
• The four-digit code is the last four digits of the MAC address
of LeakSmart Hub. (You can nd this number on the bottom
of the Hub).
Conrm that you have successfully connected your phone or
tablet to the LeakSmart-XXXX network.
Return to the LeakSmart app.

• A solid red light on top of the hub indicates that it’s on.

Tap the name of the your Wi-Fi network.
(Network must be 2.4GHz in order to work).
Type your Wi-Fi password in the password eld.
Tap Connect.
• A solid green light on top of the hub indicates the hub is
updating software. The light will turn blue when the update
is complete.
• A solid blue light indicates that the hub is connected to your
Wi-Fi network.

Note: After connecting to Wi-Fi, the hub will register
itself on the cloud and should appear in the app.

Use a pin (or something with a thin tip) to press and hold the
factory reset button on the back of the LeakSmart hub for
fteen-seconds.
• A purple light on top of the hub indicates that the hub is
ready for factory reset.
Turn the hub o, then back on.
The LeakSmart hub will then show up on the Wi-Fi network.
Tap LeakSmart-XXXX to join the network.

Determine valve type.
Locate the main water supply valve in your home.
Determine whether the valve is a 1/4 turn ball valve or
a multi-turn gate valve using the photos below.

Note: If your shut-o valve has a round body, it is
considered a globe valve and should not be used
with the Snap Valve Controller due to a risk of
damaging the rubber seals.

Ensure your water supply valve functions normally.
• Manually turn the valve to its closed position.
• Turn on the closest faucet and make sure the ow of the
water completely stops.
• Turn o faucet.
• Manually turn the valve to its open position.

Note: If the valve is dicult to turn, requires a tool to
operate, or is not completely shutting o the ow of
water, we strongly recommend calling a plumber to
have the valve replaced.

Locate the standard ball valve adapter.
Place the standard ball valve adapter on the nut attached to
the main water supply valve.
Ensure the adapter fully covers the nut as shown.
If the standard ball valve adapter does not fully cover the nut,
locate the M10 adapter and repeat steps 1-3 to ensure the
correct t.

Determine the handle size on the main water supply valve and
t the adapter to the corresponding side.
Make a mark with a pencil or marker on the correct side of the
adapter so you can reference it later in the assembly process.
Push the adapter onto the Snap Valve drive shaft:
• Push the spring clip on the adapter while sliding the
adapter on to the shaft.
• Ensure the spring clip engages the notch in the shaft by
pushing up and down on the adapter with slight pressure.

Connect the jack of the AC adapter to the bottom of the Snap
Valve Controller. Then, plug the AC adapter into an outlet.
Align the adapter in preparation for valve installation.
• Press and release the OPEN (counterclockwise) or CLOSE
(clockwise) button on the top of the Snap Valve Controller
to rotate the ball valve adapter.
• Orient the adapter so the side marked is facing the battery
chamber on the Snap Valve Controller as pictured.

Attach the Snap Valve Controller to the main water supply
valve.
• Lift up the release lever and remove U-bracket from Snap
Valve Controller.
• Place the Snap Valve Controller onto the main water supply
valve.
• Apply slight pressure to the Snap Valve Controller and
ensure the adapter fully covers the nut (as done in step 3).

• Slide U-bracket up to secure the Snap Valve Controller to
main water valve and pipe.
• Do not push the U-bracket all the way in so that ne
adjustment can be made.

Pull up T-handle on Snap Valve Controller.
• Rotate T-handle clockwise until the bottom of the Snap
Valve Controller appears to be level with the pipe.
Once level, push the U-bracket the rest of the way in.
Pull up and rotate T-handle until Snap Valve Controller is rmly
clamped to the main water line pipe.
Push T-handle back down when nished.
Do not over-tighten.

Press and hold both the OPEN and CLOSE buttons on top of
the Snap Valve Controller for 10 seconds. Then, let go.
LEDs on the OPEN and CLOSE buttons will illuminate for a
few seconds, indicating the calibration sequence has been
initiated.
Allow the valve to complete its calibration cycle - expect
approximately 3-9 full valve movements, consisting of
open/close cycles.
Look at the OPEN and CLOSE buttons to verify success.
• SUCCESS: OPEN and CLOSE LEDs will turn o and stay o.
• FAILED: OPEN LED stays green. If calibration fails, return
to the “Leveling & Fine Adjustment” section (page 22-23)
to ensure the Snap Valve Controller has been properly
installed and try the calibration process again.

Note: If the Snap Valve Controller shifts o the pipe’s axis
during calibration, quickly remove all power to stop the
motion and remove the Snap Valve Controller by pushing the
release lever and pulling the U-bracket out. Revisit Adapter
Installation and Leveling & Fine Adjustment instructions.

Remove battery compartment door and install (4) AA batteries.

Note: Batteries are installed to keep the Snap Valve
Controller running if power goes down; they are not
intended to support the controller at all times. Keep
the AC power cord connected and plugged into an
outlet at all times to protect your home.
Remove gate valve handle with wrench.
• Hold gate valve handle while turning the nut counterclockwise
using the wrench.
• Lift o the gate valve handle to expose the gate valve stem.
Examine gate valve stem to ensure it has a square shape.
The gate valve adapter will not work with a at or round stem.

• Place the Snap Valve Controller onto the main water supply
valve.
• Slide U-bracket up to secure the Snap Valve Controller to
main water valve and pipe.
• Do not push the U-bracket all the way so ne adjustment
can be made.
Locate the Gate Valve Adapter Kit.
Push the adapter onto the Snap Valve drive shaft.
• Push the spring clip on the adapter while sliding the
adapter on to the shaft.
• Ensure the spring clip engages the notch in the shaft by
pushing up and down on the adapter with slight pressure.
Attach the Snap Valve Controller to the main water supply
valve.
• Lift up the release lever and remove U-bracket from Snap
Valve Controller. Set this U-bracket aside and use the
longer U-bracket that is included in the Gate Valve Adapter
Kit.

Open and login to LeakSmart app.
Tap Add Device.
Tap Next in the LeakSmart app to initialize a three-minute
pairing mode.
• A ashing green light on top of the hub indicates that it’s in
pairing mode.
• A solid green light indicates that the hub is updating
software. The light will turn blue when the update is
complete.
• A solid blue light on top of the hub indicates that the three-
minute pairing mode has ended.
A ashing blue light on the snap controller head indicates that
it’s ready to be paired.
Tap Next in the LeakSmart app.
Press and release the center SYNC button to pair it to the hub.
When the Snap Valve Controller rapidly ashes blue, or all the
lights turn o, you’ve successfully paired it to the hub.
• Verify that the valve controller appears in the app before
moving on.

Test local control using the buttons on the Snap Valve Controller.
Press the OPEN button on the top of the Snap Valve Controller.
• A steady green light indicates the valve is open.
Press the CLOSE button on the top of the Snap Valve Controller.
• A steady red light indicates the valve is closed.

Take sensors, batteries and equipment to the location
your sensor will be placed.
We recommend placing the sensors near old pipes,
toilets, washing machines, water heaters, bathtubs,
crawl spaces, utility closets, or anywhere you want to
monitor water leaks.
Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the battery
compartment door from the LeakSmart Sensor.
Install the three provided AAA batteries, but
DO NOT REPLACE THE BATTERY DOOR.
• A chirp from the sensor indicates that the batteries
have been installed.
• A ashing blue light from the sensor indicates that
it’s ready to pair.

head screwdriver, a damp cloth and a dry cloth.

Open the LeakSmart app on your phone or tablet.
Tap Add Devices from the home screen.
Tap Next in the LeakSmart app until you see the pairing mode
screen showing device count.
To pair the sensor to the hub, press the black button inside the
battery compartment of the LeakSmart Sensor one time.
• When the pairing is successful, the light on top of the sensor
will blink slowly ve times, and you’ll hear three quick beeps.
In the LeakSmart app, watch for the total device count and the
sensor count to each increase by one.
Tap All My Devices are Paired.
With the sensor successfully paired, replace the battery
compartment door.

Note: Pairing mode will last for three minutes. If
you don’t successfully pair the sensor(s) before the
three-minute pairing mode ends, you’ll have to
start over at step 4.

Newly paired sensors are displayed under Untested
Sensors with a indicating that the sensor needs to be
named and tested.
Tap on a sensor from the untested sensors list. The selected
sensor will beep to identify itself.
When you hear the sensor, tap Ok, I have the sensor in the
app.
In the app, name the sensor to identify its location, e.g.,
master bath toilet (the sensor name can have a maximum
of 20 characters).
Tap Add Location to initiate test mode.
Press and hold the damp cloth to the gold pins on the
back of the sensor to trigger a leak (it will beep).
Keeping the damp cloth on the gold pins, tap My Sensor
is Beeping in the app. Hold damp cloth until it displays
Success.

Gold pins: hold damp cloth on these to trigger
a leak until “success” is displayed. Once
conrmed, remove damp cloth and dry pins.
