2.ConnecttheprovidedcabletoanavailableUSBconnectoronyourcomputer.Atertheoperating
systemidentifiestheUSBkeyboard,thestatusindicatorontheUSBkeyboardturnson.TheUSB
keyboardisreadyoruse.
Note:ItisrecommendedthatyouinstalltheUSBkeyboardbeoretheThinkPadCompactKeyboardwith

UsingtheUSBkeyboard
ThischapterprovidesinormationaboutusingtheUSBkeyboard.
UsingtheTrackPoint
TheTrackPointconsistsoapointingstickandthreeclickbuttons.Thepointingstickisusedtocontrolthe
cursor.Thethreeclickbuttonsaretheletbutton,therightbutton,andthemiddlebutton.
Tousethepointingstick,dotheollowing:
1.Placeyourhandsattypingposition,andpressgentlyonthepointingstickinthedirectionthatyouwant
thecursortomove.Youcanpressthepointingstickawayromyoutomovethecursorup,towardyou
tomovethecursordown,toonesideortheothertomovethecursorsideways.Thespeedatwhichthe
cursormovesdependsonthepressureyouapplytothepointingstick.

Note:Thecursormightperiodicallydrit.Stopusingthepointingstickoraewsecondsandtry
again.Thecursorwillworknormally.
2.Toselectanitem,stopthepointingstickwhenthecursorlocatestheitemandpresstheletorright
buttonwithyourthumb.Theletandrightbuttonsunctionthesameastheletandrightbuttonsona
conventionalmouse.
Replacingthepointingstickcap
Thecapontopothepointingstickisremovable.YoucanbuyappropriatecapsromLenovotoreplace
yourcurrentcap.
Toremovethecaponthepointingstick,simplygraspthetopportionothecapandpullitup.Toinstall
anewcap,alignthesquareatthebottomothecapwiththepointingstickandpushdownuntilthecap
seatsintoposition.
Changingthepointingsticksensitivity
Whenyouareusingthepointingstick,youmightpreertousealighttouch,oryoumightwanttoapplymore
pressure.Youcanchangethewaythepointingstickrespondstoyourtouchbydoingtheollowing:
1.ClicktheThinkPadCompactKeyboardwithTrackPointicononthesystemtray.
2.IntheMousePropertieswindow,clickExternalKeyboardtab.
3.InthePointerspeedarea,movetheslidertowardSloworFastaccordingtoyourpreerence.
4.Clickpply.Then,testhowthepointingstickrespondstoyournewsettingandmakeadjustmentsi
necessary.
5.ClickOKtoapplythesetting.
UsingtheThinkPadpreferredscrollingfunction
Youcanscrollthroughanactivewindowbymovingthepointingstickwhilepressingthemiddlebutton.
YoualsocanscrollthroughaninactivewindowwiththeThinkPadPreerredScrollingunction.Toconfigure
thescrollingunction,dotheollowing:
1.ClicktheThinkPadCompactKeyboardwithTrackPointicononthesystemtray.
2.IntheMousePropertieswindow,clicktheExternalKeyboardtab.
3.Dependingonyourneeds,dooneotheollowing:
•Toscrollthroughactivewindowsjustasaconventionalmouse,clearThinkPadPreferredScrolling.
•Toscrollthroughinactivewindows,selectThinkPadPreferredScrolling.
4.ClickOK.
