attributes, and other factors related to s stem configuration and operating environments, the actual transfer
rate using the various USB connectors on this device will var and will be slower than the data rate listed
below for each corresponding device.

Charge your Chro ebook
CAUTION:
All plugs ust be fir ly and securely inserted into receptacles.
Lock your Chro ebook
Lock our Chromebook to a desk, table, or other fixtures through a compatible securit cable lock.
Note: The slot supports cable locks that conform to the Kensington NanoSaver® lock standards using
Cleat™ locking technolog . You are responsible for evaluating, selecting, and implementing the locking

device and securit feature. Lenovo is not responsible for the locking device and securit feature. You can
purchase the cable locks at https://smartfind.lenovo.com.
Navigate your user interface
1. Search box and the app
Launcher
• T pe the name of our device, app, or Web page in the search box.
• Click an app shown in the app Launcher to open the app quickl .
2. Launcher button Open the search box and the app Launcher.
3. Shelf Pin our frequentl used apps or Web pages to the shelf for eas access.
4. Syste tray Manage network connections, updates, and settings. B default, network
connection status, batter status, and the time are displa ed.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
1. Click the network icon in the s stem tra . A list of available wireless networks is displa ed.
2. Select a network available for connection. Provide required information, if needed.
Set up a Bluetooth connection
You can connect all t pes of Bluetooth-enabled devices to our Chromebook, such as a ke board, a mouse,
a smartphone, or speakers. To ensure successful connection, place the devices at most 10 meters (33 feet)
from our Chromebook.
1. Click the Bluetooth icon in the s stem tra . A list of available Bluetooth devices is displa ed.
2. Select a Bluetooth device, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Change the display language
When starting our Chromebook for the first time, ou are prompted to select the displa language. This
setting can be changed if ou need to use a different language.
1. Click the setting icon in the s stem tra , and then click Advanced ➙ Languages and input.
2. In the Languages section, click next to the language that ou want to use, and then click Move to the
top.
Notes:
• If the language ou want to use is not shown in the list, click Add languages.
• You need to sign out and then sign in for the changes to take effect.
• Each signed-in user can set their own displa language.
Change input ethods
You might need to add an input method to t pe text in a particular language and switch between input
methods.
Add an input ethod
1. Click the setting icon in the s stem tra , and then click Advanced ➙ Languages and input.
2. In the Input method section, click Manage input ethods, and then select input methods as ou prefer.
Switch between input ethods
You can press Ctrl + Space to switch to our previous input method, and press Ctrl + Shift + Space to switch
between available input methods, or ou can switch between input methods b doing the following:
1. Click the setting icon in the s stem tra , and then click Advanced ➙ Languages and input.
2. In the Input method section, click the name of the input method to enable it.
Use ulti edia
Use our Chromebook with the built-in components (camera, speakers, and audio features) or connected
external devices (an external projector, monitor, and HDTV).
Use audio
To enhance our audio experience, connect speakers, headphones, or a headset with a 3.5-mm (0.14-inch),
4-pole plug to the audio connector.
To pla a local audio or video file:
1. Click the Launcher button, and then click to displa the full app Launcher.
2. Click Files.
3. Choose a local audio or video file, and then open it in the media pla er.
To adjust the speaker volume, click the s stem tra , and then adjust the volume bar.
Use the ca era
You can use the built-in camera to take photos or record videos. The indicator next to the camera turns on
when the camera is in use.
To take photos or record videos:

1. Click the Launcher button, and then click to displa the full app Launcher.
2. Click Ca era.
3. To take photos, click the camera icon. If ou want to record videos, click Video to switch to the video
mode.
If ou use other programs that provide features such as photographing, video capturing, and video
conference, the camera starts automaticall when ou enable the camera-required feature.
Connect to an external display
Connect our Chromebook to a projector or a monitor to give presentations or expand our workspace.
Supported resolution
The following table lists the supported maximum resolution of the external displa .

To change displa settings:
1. Click the setting icon in the s stem tra , and then click Device ➙ Displays.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to change the displa settings as ou prefer.
Set the power plan
For ENERGY STAR® compliant Chromebooks, the following power plan takes effect when our
Chromebooks have been idle for a specified duration:

To reset the power plan to achieve the best balance between performance and power saving:
1. Click the setting icon in the s stem tra , and then click Device ➙ Power.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to change the settings as ou prefer.
Shut down your Chro ebook
When ou finish working with our Chromebook, shut it down to save power.
• Click in the s stem tra .
• Press the power button.
Interact with your Chro ebook
This section introduces various wa s to interact with our Chromebook.
Use the keyboard shortcuts
The function ke s on the ke board help ou work more easil and effectivel .
Go to the previous page.
Go to the next page.
Refresh our current page.
Make the current window full screen.
Open the task view to see all our open windows.
Darken the displa .
Brighten the displa .
Mute the speakers.
Decrease the speaker volume.
Increase the speaker volume.
*Lock the screen.
*Turn on the Chromebook, put it to sleep mode, or wake it up.

Your Chromebook also supports some ke combinations.
Ctrl + Take a screenshot.
Alt + Switch the letter case between the upper case and lower case.
L + Lock the screen.
Ctrl + Alt + ? View all ke board shortcuts.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to change the settings as ou prefer.
Use the touchpad
The entire touchpad surface is sensitive to finger touch and movement. You can use the touchpad to perform
all the pointing, clicking, and scrolling functions of a traditional mouse.
Use the touch gestures
Tap once to select or open an item. Tap twice quickl to displa a shortcut menu.
Two-finger zoom in or zoom out.
Scroll through items.
Show the current window. Open the task view.
Notes:
• When using two or more fingers, ensure that ou position our fingers slightl apart.
• Some gestures are onl available when ou are using certain apps.
• If the touchpad surface is stained with oil, turn off the Chromebook first. Then, gentl wipe the touchpad
surface with a soft and lint-free cloth moistened with lukewarm water or computer cleaner.
To change the settings:
1. Click the setting icon in the s stem tra , and then click Device ➙ Touchpad.
2. Follow the on-screen instructions to change the settings as ou prefer.
If Enable tap-to-click is turned on, ou can tap or press the touchpad. Otherwise, ou can onl press the
touchpad to achieve the clicking function of a traditional mouse.
Use the touch screen (for selected odels)
If our Chromebook displa supports the multi-touch function, ou can navigate the screen with simple
touch gestures.

Maintenance tips:
• Turn off the Chromebook before cleaning the multi-touch screen.

• Use a dr , soft, and lint-free cloth or a piece of absorbent cotton to remove fingerprints or dust from the
multi-touch screen. Do not appl solvents to the cloth.
• The multi-touch screen is a glass panel covered with a plastic film. Do not appl pressure or place an
metallic object on the screen, which might damage the touch panel or cause it to malfunction.
• Do not use fingernails, gloved fingers, or inanimate objects for input on the screen.
• Regularl calibrate the accurac of the finger input to avoid a discrepanc .
Use the electronic pen (for selected odels)
Selected models of Lenovo 300e/500e Chromebook Gen 3 are shipped with an electronic pen. To use the
pen, slide it out of the pen slot.
Notes:
• You might need to install additional apps such as Google Keep for better use of the pen. When not in use,
put it back into its slot.
• To purchase the pen, go to https://www.lenovo.com/accessories.
Use the electronic pen
You can perform the following operations with the pen:
• To open an app or a Web page, tap the displa once.
• To displa the shortcut menu or make a selection, tap the displa and hold the pen there for one second.
Get to know your Chro ebook odes (for selected odels)
Rotate the displa to switch among different modes according to our preference. The ke board is
automaticall disabled in the stand mode, tent mode, and tablet mode. Use the touch screen to control our
Chromebook instead.
Attention: Do not rotate the Chromebook displa with too much force, or appl too much force to the
upper-right or upper-left corner of the Chromebook displa . Otherwise, the displa or hinges might get
damaged.

Warning: When operating in the tablet mode with an external device connected, the upper case
(ke board’s side) of the Chromebook ma become hot. Avoid keeping our hands, lap, or an part of the
bod in contact with the upper case for over one minute.
