Connecting USB device
YoucanconnectaUSBdevicetoyourcomputerbyinsertingitsUSBplug(TypeA)intotheUSB
portonyourcomputer.
ThefirsttimeyouplugaUSBdeviceintoaparticularUSBportonyourcomputer,Windows
automaticallyinstallsadriverforthatdevice.Afterthedriverhasbeeninstalled,youcan
disconnectandreconnectthedevicewithoutperforminganyadditionalsteps.
Note: Typically,Windowsdetectsanewdeviceafterithasbeenconnected,andtheninstallsthedriver
automatically.However,somedevicesmayrequireyoutoinstallthedriverbeforeconnecting.Check
thedocumentationprovidedbythedevice’smanufacturerbeforeconnectingthedevice.
BeforedisconnectingaUSBstoragedevice,makesureyourcomputerhasfinishedtransferring
datatothatdevice.ClicktheSafelyRemoveHardwareandEjectMediaiconintheWindows
notificationareatoremovethedevicebeforedisconnecting.
Note: IfyourUSBdeviceusesapowercord,connectthedevicetoapowersourcebeforeconnectingit.
Otherwise,thedevicemaynotberecognized.

Putting the computer to sleep or shutting it down --------------
Whenyouhavefinishedworkingwithyourcomputer,youcanputittosleeporshutitdown.
Putting your computer to sleep
Ifyouwillbeawayfromyourcomputerforonlyashorttime,putthecomputertosleep.
Whenthecomputerisinsleepmode,youcanquicklywakeittoresumeuse,bypassingthe
startupprocess.
Toputthecomputertosleep,dooneofthefollowing:
•Closethedisplaylid.
•PressthePowerbutton.
•Openthestartmenu,andthenselectPower Sleep.
Note: Waituntilthepowerindicatorlightstartsblinking(indicatingthatthecomputerisinsleepmode)
beforeyoumoveyourcomputer.Movingyourcomputerwhiletheharddiskisspinningcandamage
theharddisk,causinglossofdata.
Towakethecomputer,dooneofthefollowing:
•Pressanykeyonthekeyboard.
•PressthePowerbutton.

Shutting down the computer
