If you use other apps that support photographing, video hatting, and video

feature from the app.

Use the onne tor to transfer data, harge your devi e, onne t to external displays,

Note: When the battery power is below 10%, the onne ted USB-C a essories
might not work orre tly.

Conne t headphones or a headset with a 3.5-mm (0.14-in h), 4-pole plug to listen to
the sound from the omputer.
Note: The audio onne tor does not support onventional mi rophones.

the boot menu.
3. Power button
Press to turn on the omputer or put the omputer to sleep mode.
To turn off the omputer, open the Start menu, li k Power, and then sele t Shut
down.
The indi ator in the power button shows the system status of your omputer.
• Blinking for three times: The omputer is initially onne ted to power.
• On: The omputer is on.
• Off: The omputer is off or in hibernation mode.
• Blinking slowly: The omputer is in sleep mode.
4. Media- ard slot Insert a flash media ard for data a ess or storage. See “Use a media ard or smart
ard” on page 21.
5. USB 3.1 onne tor Gen 1 Conne t a USB- ompatible devi e, su h as a USB keyboard, USB mouse, USB

To harge the USB- ompatible devi es when your omputer is off, in sleep mode, or in
hibernation mode, enable the Always On USB feature on your omputer.
To onfigure the Always On USB settings:
1. Open the Start menu and li k Leno o Vantage.
2. Sele t Hardware Settings ➙ Power.
3. Lo ate the Always On USB se tion and follow the on-s reen instru tions to sele t
options of your preferen e.
Note: The Always On USB 3.1 onne tor Gen 1 does not work if you li k Charge
from Sleep and your omputer is off without onne ting to a power.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basi s of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows help information.
Windows account
To use the Windows operating system, a user a ount is required. It an either be a Windows user a ount,
or a Mi rosoft a ount.
Windows user account
When you start Windows for the first time, you are prompted to reate a Windows user a ount. This first
a ount you reated is of the “Administrator” type. With an Administrator a ount, you an reate additional
user a ounts or hange a ount types by doing the following:
1. Open the Start menu and sele t Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Family & other people.
2. Follow the on-s reen instru tions.
Microsoft account
You an also log in to the Windows operating system with a Mi rosoft a ount.
To reate a Mi rosoft a ount, go to the Mi rosoft sign-up page at https://signup.live. om/ and follow the on-
s reen instru tions.
With a Mi rosoft a ount, you an:
• Enjoy one-time signing in if you are using other Mi rosoft servi es, su h as OneDrive, Skype, and Outlook.

Windows user interface
1. Account Change a ount settings, lo k the omputer, or sign out from the urrent
a ount.
2. Settings Laun h Settings.
3. Power Shut down, restart, or put the omputer into sleep.
4. Start button Open the Start menu.
5. Windows search Type what you are looking for in the sear h box and get sear h results from
your omputer and the Web.
6. Task View Display all opened apps and swit h among them.
7. Windows notification area Display notifi ations and status of some features.
8. Battery status icon Display power status and hange battery or power settings. When your
omputer is not onne ted to a power, the i on hanges to .
9. Network icon Conne t to an available wireless network and display the network status. When
onne ted to a wired network, the i on hanges to .
10. Action center Display the latest notifi ations from apps and provide qui k a ess to some
features.
Open the Start menu
• Cli k the Start button.
• Press the Windows logo key on the keyboard.

Access Control Panel
• Open the Start menu and li k Windows System ➙ Control Panel.
• Use Windows sear h.
Launch an app
• Open the Start menu and sele t the app you want to laun h.

Windows label
Your omputer might have a Windows 10 Genuine Mi rosoft label affixed to its over depending on the
following fa tors:
• Your geographi lo ation
• Edition of Windows 10 that is preinstalled
Go to https://www.mi rosoft. om/en-us/howtotell/Hardware.aspx for illustrations of the various types of
Genuine Mi rosoft labels.
• In the People’s Republi of China, the Genuine Mi rosoft label is required on all omputer models
preinstalled with any version of Windows 10.
• In other ountries and regions, the Genuine Mi rosoft label is required only on omputer models li ensed
for Windows 10 Pro.
The absen e of a Genuine Mi rosoft label does not indi ate that the preinstalled Windows version is not
genuine. For details on how to tell whether your preinstalled Windows produ t is genuine, refer to the
information provided by Mi rosoft at:
https://www.mi rosoft. om/en-us/howtotell/default.aspx
There are no external, visual indi ators of the Produ t ID or Windows version for whi h the omputer is
li ensed. Instead, the Produ t ID is re orded in the omputer firmware. Whenever a Windows 10 produ t is
installed, the installation program he ks the omputer firmware for a valid, mat hing Produ t ID to omplete
the a tivation.
In some ases, an earlier Windows version might be preinstalled under the terms of the Windows 10 Pro
li ense downgrade rights.
Connect to networks
Your omputer helps you onne t to the world through a wired or wireless network.
Connect to the wired Ethernet
Conne t your omputer to a lo al network through the Ethernet onne tor on your omputer with an
Ethernet able.
Note: If the omputer is onne ted to a supported do king station or do k, use the Ethernet onne tor on
the do king station or do k instead of the one on the omputer.
Connect to the wired Ethernet
Conne t your omputer to a lo al network through the mini Ethernet onne tor on your omputer with an
Ethernet able.

To atta h an Ethernet able to your omputer, you need an Ethernet extension adapter. The Ethernet
extension adapter is available as an option and shipped with some omputer models. You an pur hase one
from Lenovo at https://www.lenovo. om/a essories.
Connect to Wi-Fi
1. Cli k the network i on in the Windows notifi ation area. A list of available wireless networks is displayed.
2. Sele t a network to onne t. Provide required information if needed.
Connect to a cellular network
If your omputer has a wireless wide area network (WAN) ard and a mi ro-SIM ard installed, you an
onne t to a ellular data network and get online using the ellular signal.
Note: The ellular servi e is provided by authorized mobile servi e arriers in some ountries or regions.
You must have a ellular plan from a servi e arrier to onne t to the ellular network.
To establish ellular onne tion:
1. Lo ate the mi ro-SIM ard slot and insert a mi ro-SIM ard as shown. Note the orientation of the ard
and ensure that it is seated orre tly.
2. Cli k the network i on in the Windows notifi ation area, and then sele t the ellular network i on from
the list.
3. Provide required information if needed.
Use Leno o Vantage
The preinstalled Lenovo Vantage is a ustomized one-stop solution to help you maintain your omputer with
automated updates and fixes, onfigure hardware settings, and get personalized support.

Access Leno o Vantage
Open the Start menu and li k Leno o Vantage. You also an type Lenovo Vantage in the sear h box.
To download the latest version of Lenovo Vantage, go to Mi rosoft Store and sear h by the app name.
Key features
Lenovo Vantage makes periodi updates of the features to keep improving your experien e with your
omputer.
Note: The available features vary depending on the omputer model.

Download and install firmware and driver updates to keep your omputer up-to-date. You an onfigure
the options to install updates automati ally when available.

Use the keyboard shortcuts
The spe ial keys on the keyboard help you work more easily and effe tively.
1. Numeri keypad Input numbers qui kly when the Numeri Lo k indi ator is on.
2. Windows logo key
Open the Start menu.
For information about using this key with other keys, see the Windows help information.
3. Caps Lo k key
Swit h the letter ase between the upper ase and lower ase.
When the key indi ator is on, you an type upper ase letters.
4. F1–F12 fun tion
keys
Invoke the spe ial fun tion printed as an i on on ea h key or standard fun tion.
To hoose whether to invoke the spe ial fun tion or standard fun tion:
1. Go to Control Panel and view by Large i ons or Small i ons.
2. Cli k Keyboard or Leno o - Keyboard Manager and sele t the option of your
preferen e.
Swit h the fun tion of the F1–F12 keys between the standard fun tion and spe ial fun tion
printed as an i on on ea h key.
When the Fn Lo k indi ator is on:
• Press F1-F12 to use the standard fun tion.
• Press Fn+F1-F12 to use the spe ial fun tion.
When the Fn Lo k indi ator is off:
• Press Fn+F1-F12 to use the standard fun tion.
• Press F1-F12 to use the spe ial fun tion.
Mute or unmute the speakers.
When the key indi ator is on, the speakers are muted.
If you mute the speakers and turn off your omputer, the speakers remain muted when you
turn on your omputer.
De rease the speaker volume.
In rease the speaker volume.
Mute or unmute the mi rophones.
When the key indi ator is on, the mi rophones are muted.
Darken the omputer display.
Brighten the omputer display.
Manage external displays.
Enable or disable the built-in wireless features.
Open the Settings window.

Enable or disable the built-in Bluetooth features.
Open a keyboard setting page.
Invoke the fun tion defined by yourself:
1. Open the Start menu and li k Leno o Vantage.
2. Cli k Hardware Settings and then li k Input.
3. Lo ate the Keyboard: User-defined Key se tion and follow the on-s reen instru tions to
omplete the setting.
On this setting page, you an also define different fun tions for the key ombinations with
F12, su h as Shift+F12, Alt+F12, or Ctrl+F12.
Open the al ulator.
Put your omputer to sleep mode.
Open the Snipping Tool program.
Fn+Spa ebar Swit h between different keyboard ba klight statuses if your omputer supports keyboard
ba klight.
Fn+B Equal the Break key on a onventional external keyboard.
Fn+K Equal the S rLK or S roll Lo k key on a onventional external keyboard.
Fn+P Equal the Pause key on a onventional external keyboard.
Fn+S Equal the SysRq key on a onventional external keyboard.
Fn+4 Put the omputer to sleep mode. To wake up the omputer, press Fn or the power button.
Fn+Left arrow key Equal the Home key.
Fn+Right arrow key Equal the End key.
Use the multi-touch screen
If your omputer display supports the multi-tou h fun tion, you an navigate the s reen with simple tou h
gestures.
Note: Some gestures might not be available depending on the app you use.

Tips
• Turn off the omputer before leaning the multi-tou h s reen.
• Use a dry, soft, and lint-free loth or a pie e of absorbent otton to remove fingerprints or dust from the
multi-tou h s reen. Do not apply solvents to the loth.
• The multi-tou h s reen is a glass panel overed with a plasti film. Do not apply pressure or pla e any
metalli obje t on the s reen, whi h might damage the tou h panel or ause it to malfun tion.
• Do not use fingernails, gloved fingers, or inanimate obje ts for input on the s reen.
• Regularly alibrate the a ura y of the finger input to avoid a dis repan y.
