1. Charging ight Indicate whether the computer is connected to ac power.
• So id white: Connected to ac power; battery capacity 80%–100%

2. Wire ess antennas Send and receive radio waves for the bui t-in wire ess LAN ( oca area
network) and B uetooth modu e.
Note: The antennas are not visib e from the outside of the computer.
3. Power ight • So id red: The computer is in performance mode.

Press the Novo button to open the Novo Button menu. From the
menu, you can choose to open the UEFI/BIOS setup uti ity, the Boot
menu, or the Windows startup options screen.
2. USB (3.2 Gen 1) Type-A connector
(a ways-on)
The a ways-on connector can charge externa devices when the
computer is turned off, in s eep or hibernation mode. The a ways-on
function can be turned on or off in the UEFI/BIOS setup uti ity.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is pre-insta ed on your computer, you can
a so set a ways-on function from within that software.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 0
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows he p information.
Windows account
You must create at east one account to use the Windows operating system. It can be either a oca account
or a Microsoft account.
Local accounts
A oca account is created on a particu ar Windows-enab ed device and it can on y be used on that device. It
is recommended that you set a password for each oca account to prevent unauthorized access to the
device.
Microsoft accounts
A Microsoft account is a user account that you use to sign in to Microsoft software and services. If you use
Microsoft services ike OneDrive, Out ook.com, Xbox Live, Office 365, and Skype, you might a ready have
one. If you don't have it, you can create one for free.
There are two main benefits of using a Microsoft account:
• Sign in on y once. If you use a Microsoft account to sign in to Windows 10, you don’t need to sign in again
to use OneDrive, Skype, Out ook.com, and other Microsoft services.
• Settings can be synced. If you use your Microsoft account to sign in to mu tip e Windows-enab ed
devices, certain Windows settings can be synced among the devices.
Switch between a local and a Microsoft account
If you are using a oca account to sign in to Windows 10, you can switch to use a Microsoft account instead.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts.
Step 2. Se ect Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
Step 3. If you a ready have a Microsoft account, enter the account name and password to sign in.
Otherwise, se ect Create one to create a new Microsoft account.
Note: The device must have Internet access the first time you use a Microsoft account on that
device.
If you want to switch back to use a oca account, open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts ➙
Sign in with a local account instead.
Add additional user accounts
Your user account must be of the “Administrator” type to add additiona user accounts to Windows.
Add additiona user accounts if you need to share your computer with fami y members or other users.
Step 1. Open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ Accounts ➙ Family & other users.
Step 2. Se ect Add someone else to this PC.

Note: To add fami y members, you need to sign in with a Microsoft account.
Step 3. Set the user name and password for the user account.
Windows desktop
1. Account Change account settings, ock the computer, or sign out of the
current account.
2. Documents Open the Documents fo der, a defau t fo der to save your received
fi es.
3. Pictures Open the Pictures fo der, a defau t fo der to save your received
pictures.
4. Settings Open Settings.
5. Power Shut down, restart, or put the computer into s eep mode.
6. Start button Open the Start menu.
7. Windows Search Enter what you are ooking for in the search box and get search
resu ts from your computer and the Web.
8. Task View Disp ay a opened apps and switch between them.
9. Windows notification area Disp ay notifications and status of some features.
10. Battery status icon Disp ay power status and change battery or power settings.
11. Network icon Connect to an avai ab e wire ess network and disp ay the network
status. When connected to a wired network, the icon changes to .
12. Action center Disp ay the atest notifications from apps and provide quick access to
some features.
Open the Start menu
• C ick the Start button.

Open Control Panel
• Open the Start menu and se ect Windows System ➙ Control Panel.
• Use Windows Search.
Open an app
• Open the Start menu and se ect the app you want to open.
• Use Windows Search.
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager is software deve oped by Lenovo. Using the software, you can:
• View product information
• View warranty and support information
• Run hardware scan and diagnose prob ems
• Change hardware settings
• Update Windows, drivers, and UEFI/BIOS
Lenovo Vantage or PC Manager may be pre-insta ed on your computer. To open it, enter the software name
in Windows Search and se ect the matched resu t.
Note: If Lenovo Vantage is not pre-insta ed, you can down oad it from Microsoft Store.
Connect to networks
Your computer he ps you connect to the wor d through a wired or wire ess network.
Connect to wired networks
If your computer inc udes an Ethernet (RJ-45) connector, you can use an Ethernet cab e to connect your
computer to a wired network.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
If your computer inc udes a wire ess adapter, you can connect your computer to Wi-Fi networks.
Step 1. C ick the network icon in the Windows notification area. A ist of nearby networks is disp ayed.
Note: If no network is disp ayed, check to ensure that the airp ane mode is not turned on.
Step 2. Se ect a network and c ick Connect. Provide security key if prompted.
Note: The network key is usua y managed by the network administrator.
Forget a Wi-Fi network
Windows saves a ist of Wi-Fi networks you have connected to, a ong with their passwords and other
settings. By doing this, your computer is automatica y connected when it is in the range of a previous y
connected network. However, if the network password has been changed, you need to forget the network in
order to enter a new password.
Step 1. Se ect Start ➙ Settings ➙ Network & Internet ➙ Wi-Fi.

Step 2. C ick Manage known networks.
Step 3. C ick the network name and c ick Forget.
Turn airplane mode on and off
Airp ane mode is a convenient setting to turn a wire ess communications of your computer on and off. You
may need to turn it on when boarding an airp ane.
Step 1. C ick the action center icon in the Windows notification area.
Step 2. C ick the Airplane mode icon to turn it on or off.
Note: C ick Expand if you cannot find the airp ane mode icon.
The Novo Button menu
The Novo Button menu can be disp ayed before the operating system starts. From the menu, you can
choose to
• Open the BIOS/UEFI setup uti ity
• Open the boot device se ection menu
• Open the Windows startup options screen
From the Windows startup options screen, you can then choose to
• Continue: Exit and continue to Windows 10
• Use a device: Use a USB drive, network connection or Windows recovery DVD
• Troub eshoot: Reset your computer or see advanced options
• Turn off your PC
Open the Novo Button menu
For Lenovo computers with a Novo button, you can press the button to open the Novo Button menu.
Step 1. Turn off the computer.
Step 2. Open the LCD screen and press the Novo button.
Interact with your computer
Keyboard hotkeys
Some keys on the keyboard are printed with icons. These keys are ca ed hotkeys and can be pressed a one
or in combination with the Fn key to open certain apps or change certain settings quick y. The functions of
the hotkeys are symbo ized by the icons printed on them.
Hotkey Function
Mute/Unmute sound.
Decrease/Increase system vo ume.
Mute/Unmute the microphone.
Increase/Decrease screen brightness.

Turn airp ane mode on and off.
Open Lenovo Vantage, Lenovo PC Manager, or an app aunch bar.
Enab e/Disab e the touchpad.

Open the Windows Snipping Too app.
P ay or pause p ayback of media.
Stop p ayback of media.
Go the next media fi e in the p ay ist or fo der.

Adjust keyboard back ight effect.
Note: This hotkey must be used with the Fn key.
Increase/Decrease the keyboard back ight brightness or turn on/turn off the
keyboard back ight.
Note: This hotkey must be used with the Fn key.
Hotkey mode
Some hotkeys share keys with function keys (F1 to F12). The hotkey mode is a UEFI/BIOS setting that
changes how hotkeys (or function keys) are used. Pressing Fn+ESC can a so turn hotkey mode on or off.

Note: Hotkeys that do not share keys with function keys are not affected by the hotkey mode setting. They

Numeric keypad
Some Lenovo computers inc udes a dedicated numeric keypad on the far right of the keyboard. The keypad
is used for entering numbers and operators quick y.
Press the NumLock key to enab e or disab e the numeric keypad.
