computer, you can a so change the a ways-on setting
from within that software.
4USB 3.2 Gen 1 port This USB port uti izes the USB Standard-A connector. It
supports SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps and is backwards
compatib e with USB 2.0.
5HDMI™ connector Connects to a compatib e digita audio device or video
monitor, such as an HDTV.

6Mu ti-purpose USB Type-C® connector This mu ti-purpose connector can be used to connect:
• devices that uti ize the USB data transfer techno ogy,
and
• disp ay devices
Note: When connecting disp ay devices, you need to use
appropriate cab es and adapters (if needed) according to
the connection capabi ities of the disp ay device.
This connector a so supports USB Power De ivery. You
may purchase and use an appropriate USB Type-C
charger to supp y power to the computer. For detai s,
refer to “Using a Power De ivery comp iant USB Type-C
charger with the computer” on page 16.
7 RJ45 connector Connect to an Ethernet-based oca area network (LAN).
8 Power ight Indicates the power status of the computer. The co or of
the power ight a so ref ects the current y activated
operation mode. Refer to “System operation modes” on
page 17 for how to switch operation modes.
• So id on: The computer is turned on.
– White: in Ba ance mode
– Red: in Performance mode
– B ue: in Quiet mode
– Purp e: in Customs mode
• B inking: The computer is in s eep mode.
• Off: The computer is turned off or in hibernation mode.
9 Power button Press the button to turn on the computer or put the
computer into s eep mode.
Note: You can turn on the computer by f ipping open the
LCD screen if F ip to Start is enab ed.
10 Keyboard The keyboard is used primari y for entering characters. It
a so inc udes hotkeys and function keys for changing
settings and performing tasks quick y.
Note: For se ected mode s, there are LEDs under the
keyboard and a ong part of the computer perimeter. Refer
to “Hotkeys” on page 12 for how to switch factory pre-
configured ighting effects and adjust the brightness of
the LEDs. You can a so customize ighting effects in
Lenovo Vantage or Legion Zone.
11 Touchpad The touchpad is used for moving and se ecting items in a
graphic user environment. It a so supports mu ti-finger
gestures. For Windows, you can set them up in Settings
➙ Bluetooth & devices ➙ Touchpad.

CAUTION:
When the computer is operating, it should e placed on a hard and flat surface with its ottom area
not in contact with user’s are skin. Under normal operating conditions, the temperature of the
ottom surface will remain within an accepta le range as defined in IEC 62368-1, ut such
temperatures can still e high enough to cause discomfort or harm to the user if directly touched for
over 10 seconds at a time. As such, it is recommended that users avoid prolonged direct contact with
the ottom of the computer.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Work with Windows
The fo owing tab e contains Windows frequent y used settings. You can earn the basics and start working
with Windows right away.
To configure settings, type the corresponding keywords in the Windows search box and se ect the best
match. Fo ow the on-screen instructions to customize settings.

For mode s with a wire ess LAN modu e, you can connect your computer to
a Wi-Fi® network. C ick the network icon in the Windows notification area,
and then se ect a network for connection.
Note: The wire ess LAN modu e on your computer may support different
standards. For some countries or regions, use of 802.11ax may be disab ed
according to oca regu ations.

For mode s with an RJ45 connector, you can use an Ethernet cab e to
connect your computer to a wired network.

Airp ane mode Airp ane mode is a convenient setting to turn a wire ess communications of
your computer on and off. You may need to turn it on when boarding an
airp ane.
Airp ane mode
Night ight mode Night ight is a switch in Windows that you can turn on and off. When it is
turned on, your screen shows warmer co ors and the amount of emitted
b ue ight is reduced. Enab ing night ight reduces the chances of deve oping
eye fatigue or eye strain.

If night ight mode is turned on, you can adjust the co or temperature of the
screen.
Note: Se ected Lenovo computers are ow b ue ight certified using night
ight mode and co or temperature settings avai ab e in the pre-insta ed
operating system. These computers are tested with night ight turned on
and co or temperature set to 48 or greater.

Updates
Microsoft periodica y re eases feature and security updates to the Windows
operating system. Updates that are app icab e to your Windows version are
down oaded automatica y when your computer is connected to the
Internet. When updates are down oaded, you are prompted to restart the
computer to insta these updates. You can a so manua y check if there are
avai ab e updates for the insta ed version of Windows.
Attention: On y use Windows Update to down oad and insta updates.
Updates down oaded from other sources may inc ude security risks.

Lenovo Vantage and Lenovo PC Manager
They are both apps deve oped by Lenovo. Using either of them, you can:
• View product information and system status
• Manage and change device settings
• Check for and perform system update
Note: This feature is on y avai ab e on Lenovo Vantage. In Lenovo PC Manager, you can check for and
perform driver update.
Depending on the country or region in which your computer is purchased, one of the apps may be pre-
insta ed on your computer. To open it, type its name in the Windows Search box and se ect the matched
resu t. If neither of the apps is pre-insta ed, you may insta one on your own. Lenovo Vantage is avai ab e for
down oad free of charge from the Microsoft Store.
Note: App features are subject to change with updates and specific features may not be avai ab e on a
Lenovo products.
The Novo Button menu
The Novo Button menu can be disp ayed before the operating system starts. From the menu, you can
choose to
• Open the BIOS/UEFI setup uti ity
• Open the boot device se ection menu
• Open the Windows startup options screen
Note: From the Windows startup options screen, you can then choose to
Start your computer using a recovery drive
Reset your computer
Open advanced options screen
Open the Novo Button menu
Step 1. Turn on or restart the computer.
Step 2. Press F9 repeated y.
Hotkeys
Look at the top row of the keyboard of your Lenovo computer and you’ find keys with printed icons. These
keys are ca ed hotkeys and they provide shortcuts to functions that you’ use frequent y. The function that
each hotkey provides is denoted by the icon printed on the key.
Hotkeys share keys with function keys (F1–F12) and other keys. Depending on the FnLock setting, you use
hotkey functions by pressing the key direct y or in combination with the Fn key.

Note: The FnLock switch does not app y to hotkeys not found in the first row of the keyboard. To use these
hotkeys, a ways ho d down the Fn key whi e pressing the key.

The FnLock switch
The FnLock is an e ectronic switch that affects how you use hotkey functions. To turn it on and off, press Fn
+ Esc.
Note: The Esc key is in the upper eft corner of the keyboard. It has an LED that indicates the status of the
FnLock switch.

A Lenovo keyboard usua y contains hotkeys in the top row. These hotkeys share keys with the function keys
(F1–F12) and other keys. For these dua -function keys, the icons or characters denoting the primary functions
are printed on top of the icons and characters denoting the secondary functions.
