Chapter 1. Meet your computer
Front
1. Camera
Take pictures or record videos by c icking Camera from the Start menu.
If you use other apps that support photographing, video chatting, and video
conference, the camera starts automatica y when you enab e the camera-
required feature from the app.
2. Shutter S ide the shutter to cover or uncover the camera ens. It is designed to protect
your privacy.
3. Camera indicator If the indicator is on, the camera is in use.
4. Wire ess LAN/B uetooth
antennas
Send and receive radio waves for the wire ess LAN/B uetooth modu e.
Note: The antennas are not visib e from outside of the computer.

Chapter 2. Get started with your computer
Get started with Windows 10
Learn the basics of Windows 10 and start working with it right away. For more information about Windows
10, see the Windows he p information.
Windows account
To use the Windows operating system, a user account is required. It can either be a Windows user account,
or a Microsoft account.
Windows user account
When you start Windows for the first time, you are prompted to create a Windows user account. This first
account you created is of the “Administrator” type. With an Administrator account, you can create additiona
user accounts or change account types by doing the fo owing:
1. Open the Start menu and se ect Settings ➙ ccounts ➙ Family & other users.
2. Fo ow the on-screen instructions.
Microsoft account
You can a so og in to the Windows operating system with a Microsoft account.
To create a Microsoft account, go to the Microsoft sign-up page at https://signup. ive.com/ and fo ow the on-
screen instructions.
With a Microsoft account, you can:
• Enjoy one-time signing in if you are using other Microsoft services, such as OneDrive, Skype, and Out ook.
com.
• Sync persona ized settings across other Windows-based devices.

Windows user interface
1. ccount Change account settings, ock the computer, or sign out from the current account.
2. Settings Launch Settings.
3. Power Shut down, restart, or put the computer into s eep.
4. Start button Open the Start menu.
5. Windows search Type what you are ooking for in the search box and get search resu ts from your
computer and the Web.
6. Task View Disp ay a opened apps and switch among them.
7. Windows notification area Disp ay notifications and status of some features.
8. Battery status icon Disp ay power status and change battery or power settings. When your computer
is not connected to ac power, the icon changes to .
9. Network icon Connect to an avai ab e wire ess network and disp ay the network status. When
connected to a wired network, the icon changes to .
10. ction center Disp ay the atest notifications from apps and provide quick access to some
features.

Your computer might have a Windows 10 Genuine Microsoft abe affixed to its cover depending on the
fo owing factors:
• Your geographic ocation
• Edition of Windows 10 that is preinsta ed
Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtote /Hardware.aspx for i ustrations of the various types of
Genuine Microsoft abe s.
• In the Peop e’s Repub ic of China, the Genuine Microsoft abe is required on a computer mode s
preinsta ed with any version of Windows 10.
• In other countries and regions, the Genuine Microsoft abe is required on y on computer mode s icensed
for Windows 10 Pro.
The absence of a Genuine Microsoft abe does not indicate that the preinsta ed Windows version is not
genuine. For detai s on how to te whether your preinsta ed Windows product is genuine, refer to the
information provided by Microsoft at:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/howtote /defau t.aspx
There are no externa , visua indicators of the Product ID or Windows version for which the computer is
icensed. Instead, the Product ID is recorded in the computer firmware. Whenever a Windows 10 product is
insta ed, the insta ation program checks the computer firmware for a va id, matching Product ID to comp ete
the activation.
In some cases, an ear ier Windows version might be preinsta ed under the terms of the Windows 10 Pro
icense downgrade rights.
Connect to networks
Your computer he ps you connect to the wor d through a wired or wire ess network.
Connect to wired networks
If your computer inc udes an Ethernet (RJ-45) connector, you can use an Ethernet cab e to connect your
computer to a wired network.
Connect to Wi-Fi networks
1. C ick the network icon in the Windows notification area. A ist of avai ab e wire ess networks is disp ayed.
2. Se ect a network to connect. Provide required information if needed.

Use Lenovo Vantage
The preinsta ed Lenovo Vantage is a customized one-stop so ution to he p you maintain your computer with
automated updates and fixes, configure hardware settings, and get persona ized support.
ccess Lenovo Vantage
Open the Start menu and c ick Lenovo Vantage. You a so can type Lenovo Vantage in the search box.
To down oad the atest version of Lenovo Vantage, go to Microsoft Store and search by the app name.
Key features
Lenovo Vantage makes periodic updates of the features to keep improving your experience with your
computer.
Note: The avai ab e features vary depending on the computer mode .

Down oad and insta firmware and driver updates to keep your computer up-to-date. You can configure
the options to insta updates automatica y when avai ab e.

Configure inte igent settings of the fo owing hardware to make your computer smarter to use:

Your computer provides you various ways to navigate the screen.

Hotkeys
Some keys on the keyboard are printed with icons. These keys are ca ed hotkeys and can be pressed a one
or in combination with the Fn key to access certain Windows functions or settings quick y. The functions of
hotkeys are symbo ized by the icons printed on them.
Hotkey Function
Mute/Unmute the sound.
Decrease system vo ume.
Increase system vo ume.
Enab e/Disab e the integrated microphone.
Refresh page.
Enab e/Disab e the touchpad.
Turn on/off airp ane mode.
Enab e/Disab e the integrated camera.
Lock/Un ock the LCD screen.
Enab e the externa projector or dang e the externa disp ay.
Decrease disp ay brightness.
Increase disp ay brightness.
Hotkey mode
Some hotkeys share keys with functions keys (F1 to F12). The hotkey mode is a UEFI/BIOS setting that
changes how hotkeys (or function keys) are used.

Note: Hotkeys that do not share keys with function keys are not affected by the hotkey mode setting. They
shou d a ways be used with the Fn key.

Use multimedia
Use your computer for business or entertainment with the bui t-in components (camera, speakers, and audio
features) or connected externa devices (an externa projector, monitor, and HDTV).
Use audio
To enhance your istening experience, connect speakers, headphones, or a headset with a 3.5-mm (0.14-
inch), 4-po e p ug to the audio connector.
Change the sound settings
1. Go to Contro Pane and view by category.
2. C ick Hardware and Sound ➙ Sound.
3. Change the settings as you prefer.
Protect your hearing
Smart audio he ps protect against hearing oss. The feature imits the computer’s maximum vo ume to 130
mV when a headset or headphone is connected. To change the setting:
1. Go to Contro Pane and view by arge icons.
2. C ick Smart udio. In the window disp ayed, c ick the Disable Headphone Limiter icon. Then fo ow the
on-screen instructions.
Use the camera
You can use the bui t-in camera to take photos or record videos. The indicator next to the camera turns on
when the camera is activated.
To take photos or record a video:
1. Open the Start menu and c ick Camera.
2. To take a photo, c ick the camera icon. If you want to record video, c ick the video icon to switch to
video mode.
If you use other programs that provide features such as photographing, video capturing, and video
conference, the camera starts automatica y when you enab e the camera-required feature.
To configure the camera settings:
1. Open the Start menu and then c ick Lenovo Vantage ➙ Hardware Settings ➙ udio/Visual.
2. Locate the Camera section and then fo ow the on-screen instructions.
Connect to an external display
Connect your computer to a projector or a monitor to give presentations or expand your workspace.
Connect to a wired display
1. Connect the externa disp ay to an appropriate video connector on your computer such as the HDMI
connector.
2. Connect the externa disp ay to an e ectrica out et.
3. Turn on the externa disp ay.
