Ifthetelephone companydeterminesthat customerprovided equipment isfaultyandmaypossiblycauseharmor
interruptionin servicetothe telephonenetwork,it shouldbedisconnecteduntilrepaircanbeaffected.If thisisnot
done,thetelephone companymaytemporarilydisconnectservice.
The local telephonecompanymaymakechangesinitscommunicationsfacilitiesorprocedures.Ifthesechanges

1.1ImportantSafety Instructions
1.1.1 Safety Requirements
§When usingyourtelephoneequipment, basicsafetyprecautionsshould always befollowed to
reducethe riskoffire, electricshock andotherpersonal injury, including the following:
§Pleasereadandunderstandallinstructions.
§Followallwarningsandinstructionsmarked onthe product.
§Unplugthisproductfromthewalloutlet beforecleaning.Adampclothshouldbe used for
cleaning; donotuseliquidoraerosolcleaners.
§Donotusethisproductnearwater,suchasinabathtub,washbowl, kitchensink,orlaundrytub,
inawetbasement,ornearaswimmingpool.
§Donotplacethisproduct on anunstablestand ortable.The productmayfall,causing serious
damagetotheproductorseriousinjury.
§SlotsandopeningsintheKSUand thebackorbottomareprovidedforventilation,toprotectit
fromoverheating,theseopeningsmustnotbe blockedorcovered. The openingsshouldnever
be blocked byplacing the productonabed,sofa,orothersimilarsurface.Thisproductshould
neverbe placed nearoroveraradiatororotherheat source.Thisproductshouldnotbeplaced
inabuilt-ininstallationwithoutproperventilation.
§Thisproductshouldbe operatedonlyfromthetypeofpowersourceindicatedon theproduct
label.Ifyou arenot sureof thetypeof powersupplytoyourlocation,consultyourdealerorlocal
powercompany.
§Donotallowanything torestonthe powercord. Donotlocatethisproductwherethe cordcould
be abused bypeoplewalking onit.
§Donotoverload walloutletsandextension cordsasthiscanresultintheriskoffireorelectric
shock.
§Neverpushobjectsofanykind intothisproductthrough KSUslotsorconnectorsastheymay
touchdangerousvoltagepointsorshortout partsthat couldresultinariskoffireorelectric
shock.Neverspillliquidofanykindon theproduct.
§Toreducetherisk ofelectricshock,donot disassemblethisproduct.Instead, takeittoa
qualified person whenserviceorrepairworkisrequired. Opening orremovingcoversmay
exposeyoutodangerousvoltagesorotherrisk. Incorrect reassemblecancauseelectricshock
whentheapplianceissubsequentlyused.
§Unplugthisproductfromthewalloutlet andreferservicingtoqualifiedservicepersonnel under
the following conditions:
Whenthepowersupplycordorplugisdamagedorfrayed.
Ifliquidhasbeen spilled intotheproduct.
If theproduct hasbeen exposedtorainorwater.
If theproduct doesnot operatenormallybyfollowingthe operatinginstructions. Adjustonly
thosecontrolsthatarecoveredbythe operatinginstructionsbecauseimproperadjustmentof
othercontrolsmayresult in damage andwilloften requireextensiveworkbyaqualified
techniciantorestorethe producttonormal operation.
If theproduct hasbeen droppedortheKSUhasbeen damaged.
If theproduct exhibitsadistinctchangeinperformance.
§Avoidusingatelephoneduring anelectrical storm. Theremaybe aremoterisk ofelectricshock
fromlightning.
§Intheevent ofagasleak,do notusethetelephone neartheleak.

§Keepthesystemawayfromheatingappliancesandelectrical noisegeneratingdevicessuchas
florescentlamps, motorsand televisions.Thesenoisesourcescaninterferewiththe
performanceofthe ipLDK-60 System.
§Thissystemshouldbe keptfree ofdust, moisture, hightemperature(morethan 40degrees)and
vibration, and shouldnotbeexposedtodirectsunlight.
§Neverattempttoinsertwires, pins,etc.intothesystem.If thesystemdoesnotoperateproperly,
the equipmentshouldberepairedbyan authorizedLG-Nortelservicecenter.
§Donotusebenzene,paint thinner,oranabrasivepowdertoclean the KSU. Wipeitwithasoft
clothonly.
1.2.1 Caution
§Thissystemshouldonlybe installedand servicedbyqualifiedservicepersonnel.
§When afailureoccurswhichexposesanyinternalparts, disconnectthepowersupplycord
immediatelyandreturnthissystemtoyourdealer.
§Topreventtheriskoffire, electricshock orenergyhazard, do notexposethisproducttorainor
anytype of moisture.
§Toprotect PCBfromstaticelectricity,discharge bodystaticbeforetouching connectorsand/or
componentsbytouchinggroundorwearingaground strap.
WARNING
Dangerofexplosion ifbatteryisnotcorrectlyreplaced.
Replaceonlywith thesame orequivalenttyperecommendedbythemanufacturer.
Dispose ofusedbatteries according tothemanufacturer’sinstructions.
1.2.2 Disposal ofOldAppliance
Whenthedisplayedsymbol (crossed-outwheeled bin)isadhered toaproduct, itdesignatestheproductiscoveredby
theEuropeanDirective2002/96/EC.
§Allelectricandelectronicproductsshouldbeonlybedisposed ofinspecial collection
facilitiesappointedbygovernmentorlocal/municipalauthorities.
§Thecorrect disposal of youroldappliancewillhelpprevent potentialnegative
consequencesfortheenvironment and humanhealth.

3.1Pre-Installation
Pleaseread thefollowingguidelinesconcerning installationandconnectionbeforeinstallingthe ipLDK-60 System.Be
suretocomplywithapplicablelocalregulations.
3.1.1 Safety InstallationInstructions
Wheninstallingthetelephonewiring,basicsafetyprecautionsshouldalwaysbefollowedtoreducetherisk offire,
electricshock andpersonal injury, including thefollowing:
§Neverinstallthe telephonewiring during alightning storm.
§Neverinstallthe telephonejackinwetlocationsunlessthejackisspecificallydesigned forwet
locations.
§Nevertouchun-insulatedtelephonewiresorterminalsunlessthe telephonelinehasbeen
disconnected atthe networkinterface.
§Usecaution wheninstallingormodifyingtelephonelines.
§Anti-staticprecautionsshouldbetakenduring installation.
3.1.2 Installation precautions
The ipLDK-60Systemisdesigned forwall mountingorafree–standingrack.Avoidinstalling inthe following places:
§Indirectsunlight andhot,cold,orhumid places.Temperaturerange= 0to40oC.
§Placeswhereshocksorvibrationsarefrequent orstrong.
§Dustyplaces, orplaceswherewateroroilmaycomeintocontact withthe System.
§Nearhigh-frequency generatingdevicessuchassewingmachinesorelectricwelders.
§Onornearcomputers, faxmachines,orotherofficeequipment, aswellasmicrowaveovensor
airconditioners.
§Donotobstructtheopeningsonthetop ofthe ipLDK-60 System.
§Donotstackuptheoptional serviceboards.
3.1.3 Wiring Precautions
Besuretofollowtheseprecautionswhenwiring:
§Donotwirethe telephonecableinparallelwithanACpowersource,suchasacomputer,fax
machine,etc.If thecablesarerunnearthosewire, shieldthecableswithmetal tubing oruse
shieldedcablesandgroundtheshields.
§If the cablesarerunonthefloor,useprotectorstopreventthewiresfrombeing stepped on.
Avoidwiringundercarpets.
§Avoidusingthesamepowersupplyoutletforcomputers, faxmachine,andotheroffice
equipment toavoidinductionnoiseinterruption whenusingthe ipLDK-60 nearothermachines.
§ThepowerandbatteryswitchesmustbeOFF duringwiring.Afterwiring iscompleted,thepower
switchmaybe turnedON.
§Incorrect wiring maycausethe ipLDK-60Systemtooperateimproperly.
§If anextensiondoesnot operateproperly, disconnect thetelephonefromtheextensionlineand
thenre-connect,orturnthe SystempowerOFFandthenONagain.
§Usetwistedpaircableforconnecting COlines.
