Unpacking
Checktheequipmentforanytransportdamage.Iftheunitismechanicallydamaged,ifliquidshavebeenspilledorifobjectshavefalleninto
theunit,itmustnotbeconnectedtotheACpoweroutlet,oritmustbeimmediatelydisconnectedbyunpluggingthepowercable.Repair
mustonlybeperformedbytrainedpersonnelinaccordancewiththeapplicableregulations.
InstallationSite
Installtheunitinaplacewherethefollowingconditionsaremet:
Thetemperatureandtherelativehumidityoftheenvironmentmustbewithinthespecifiedlimitsduring
operationoftheunit.Relevantvaluesaretheonesattheairinletsoftheunit.
Condensationmustbeavoided.Iftheunitisinstalledinalocationwithlargevariationofambienttemperature
(e.g.inanOB‐van),appropriateprecautionsmustbetakenbeforeandafteroperation.
Unobstructedairflowisessentialforproperoperation.Airventsoftheunitareafunctionalpartofthedesign
andmustnotbeblockedinanywayduringoperation(e.g.byobjectsplaceduponthem,placementoftheuniton
asoftsurface,orinstallationoftheunitwithinarackorpieceoffurniture).
Theunitmustnotbeheatedupbyexternalsourcesofheatradiation(sunlight,spotlights).

UnitsandsystemsbyLightViperaregenerallydesignedforanambienttemperaturerange(i.e.temperatureoftheincomingair)of+5...+40
°C.Whenrackmountingtheunits,thefollowingfactsmustbeconsidered:
Theadmissibleambienttemperaturerangeforoperationofthesemiconductorcomponentsis0°Cto+70°C
(commercialtemperaturerangeforoperation).
Theairflowthroughtheinstallationmustprovidethattheoutgoingairisalwayscoolerthan70°C.
Averageheatincreaseofthecoolingairshallbeabout20K,allowingforanadditionalmaximum10Kincreaseat
thehotcomponents.
Inordertodissipate1kWwiththisadmissibleaverageheatincrease,anairflowof2.65m³/minisrequired.
Example:ArackdissipatingP=800Wrequiresanairflowof0.8*2.65m³/minwhichcorrespondsto2.12
m³/min.
Ifthecoolingfunctionoftheinstallationmustbemonitored(e.g.forfanfailureorilluminationwithspotlamps),
theoutgoingairtemperaturemustbemeasureddirectlyabovethemodulesatseveralplaceswithin
EarthingandPowerSupply
Earthingofunitswithmainssupply(classIequipment)isperformedviatheprotectiveearth(PE)conductorintegratedinthemainscable.
Unitswithbatteryoperation(<60V,classIIIequipment)mustbeearthedseparately.Earthingtheunitisoneofthemeasuresforprotection
againstelectricalshockhazard(dangerousbodycurrents).Hazardousvoltagemaynotonlybecausedbydefectivepowersupplyinsulation,
butmayalsobeintroducedbytheconnectedaudioorcontrolcables.
Thisequipmentmayrequiretheuseofadifferentlinecord,attachmentplug,orboth,dependingontheavailablepowersourceat
installation.Iftheattachmentplugneedstobechanged,referservicingtoqualifiedservicepersonnel

cantransportbothpairsoffiberinputs/outputsoftheEF‐2onasingle
