Contents:-
• 1 x LINKD301 Carbon Monoxide Alarm
• 1 x Battery (sealed & tamper proof)
• 1 x Mounting Bracket
• 2 x Wall Plugs, 2 x Screws
• 1 x Adhesive Pad
Important Information:-
This manual contains important information about
your carbon monoxide alarm. If you are installing a
carbon monoxide alarm for someone else, please
be sure to leave this instruction manual with the
end user. Advanced and superior electrochemical
carbon monoxide sensors are generally most
effective in detecting colourless, odourless, non-
irritating and toxic carbon monoxide gases. These
gases can cause serious harm to the human body.
This apparatus is designed to protect individuals
from the acute effects of carbon monoxide
exposure. It will not fully safeguard individuals with
specific medical conditions. If in doubt, contact a
physician.
Where to install the carbon
monoxide alarm:-
Scottish law states the following:-
“One Carbon Monoxide alarm in every room that
has a carbon burning appliance. For example, gas
cookers, gas boiler, gas fires, wood burning stoves,
open fires and oil burners”
Installing the carbon monoxide
alarm:-
• Ensure that you don’t block the air inlet when
installing
• Ensure the alarm is between 1M-3M away from
the carbon burning appliance in the room
• If there is a partition wall, make sure the alarm
is on the same side as the carbon burning
appliance
• If the alarm is positioned on a wall, please
make sure it’s at least 1.5M off the ground
• Choose between the Adhesive Pad or Screws
• If using the pad - wipe both the wall and alarm
to ensure they are free from dust
• Remove the backing from one side and stick it
to the bracket. Remove the backing from the
other side and stick it to the wall
• If using screws - check which screws and
wall plugs are most suitable for your chosen
location
• Fix the bracket into the wall using the wall
plugs and screws
• Click the alarm into the bracket
Alarm response for different CO
concentrations:-
• <50 PPM – No Alarm
• 50 – 100 PPM – Alarm after 80 minutes – Red
LED flashes every 2 mins
• 100 – 300 PPM – Alarm after 30 minutes – Red
LED flashes every 2 mins with a beep
• 300+ PPM – Alarms sounds and sets off the
other alarms
Protection against carbon
monoxide poisoning:-
• If there is a suspected carbon monoxide
poisoning, immediately open doors and
windows to help circulate air
• After leaving the site with carbon monoxide
patients should rest and not increase
cardiopulmonary load
• Call 999 immediately in the event of suspected
carbon monoxide poisoning.
Limitations of carbon monoxide
alarms:-
Carbon monoxide alarms play a vital role in
reducing deaths caused by carbon monoxide
poisoning worldwide. However, like any warning
device, carbon monoxide alarms can only work if
they are properly located, installed and maintained.
• Carbon monoxide alarms may not wake all
individuals
• Carbon monoxide alarms cannot detect CO if
the gas doesn’t reach the alarm
• Carbon monoxide alarms are not fool proof.
Like any electronic devices carbon monoxide
alarms are made of components that can wear
out of fail at any time.
• You must test the unit weekly to ensure
maximum protection.
• Carbon monoxide alarms have a limited life.
The unit should be replaced immediately if
it’s not operating properly. You should always
replace a carbon monoxide alarm within 10
years of purchase or sooner if it has a shorter
expiry date. Write the purchase date on the
space provided at the back of the unit.
Harm & effects of carbon
monoxide:-
Carbon monoxide is a colourless, tasteless, irritant
and toxic asphyxiating gas. Carbon monoxide gas
can cause carbon monoxide poisoning if inhaled in
large enough concentrations. The possible sources
of carbon monoxide gases are:-
• Carbon monoxide can leak due to ageing and
damaged domestic gas equipment.
• Heating from a fire in a closed room with poor
ventilation
• Poor fuel combustion.
• Exhaust gases of cars and vans.
Carbon monoxide interacts with human blood.
Once inhaled it causes a chemical reaction with
haemoglobin in the blood which in turn causes
poisoning if a large amount is inhaled. The effects
on the human body are:-
• Mild poisoning: headache, dizziness, vomiting,
transient unconsciousness.
• Moderate poisoning: Lips and nails can turn
cherry red and coma will occur if poisoning
continues.
• Severe poisoning: Pale skin, dilated pupils,
death can occur quickly.
Testing, maintenance & cleaning:-
This unit has been designed to be a maintenance
free as possible, but there are a few things you can
do to keep it functioning properly
• Test the alarm once per week
• Clean the alarm once per month, gently
vacuum the outside of the alarm. Test the
alarm after cleaning. Never use water, cleaners
or solvents as they may damage the unit
• Ensure there is never to much dirt or dust build
up on the device as this could stop it from
working properly
Technical Specification:-
• Working voltage: DC 6V Battery – Non
replaceable
• CO sensor type: Superior CO electrochemical
sensor
• Frequency range: 433.92 MHz
• Alarms Sound Level: 85dB/3m
• Product Life: 10 years
• Battery Life: 10 years
• Internal Connection Range: 20M
Limited warranty:-
We guarantee to the original consumer that there
will be no defects in material or workmanship for
a period of time from the date of purchase with
respect to the use and service of each new alarm.
The warranty does not cover damage caused by
accident or misuse of the product. This warranty
covers the alarm for malfunction for 5 years from
the day of purchase.
LINKD Alarms can never be made liable for loss
and / or damage of whatever nature, including
incidental and / or consequential loss, arising from
the fact that the signal from the alarm did not sound
during a leak.
LED Indicator Glossary:-
• Green LED flashes once every 60 seconds =
Normal
• Red LED flashing rapidly with siren = Detection
• Red LED flashes for 10 seconds with no siren =
Detection Muted
• Red LED flashes once every 10 seconds with
one beep = Fault. Replace Alarm
• Red LED flashes once every 60 seconds with
one beep = Low Battery. Replace Alarm
