APPLICATIONS
BMS
The areas of applicaon for this especially
manufactured for staonary or mobile use
lithiumbaeryareverymanifold.Especially
caravans,solar,e-boats,electric-scooter,golf
carts or even electromobiles/wheelchairs
and cleaning machines are more and more
equipped with it.
The baerie-management-system (BMS)
installedineachbaeryensuresthebaerie
switches o in case of e.g. undervoltge or
overloadandautomacallyswitchesonagain
when the problem is solved.
LiFePo4 baeries have a very high charge /
discharge eciency. Accordingly, a LiFePo4
baerycanusemostofthesuppliedenergy
andonlyaasmalllossofenergyispresent.

The dimensions of the housing are idencal
to themostcommonAGM,leadacidorGEL
baeries. With oponally available round
pole, exisng terminals can be reused. An
exchangeofthebaeryholderorachange
ofthechargingstructureisnotnecessary.
The convenient integrated Bluetooth interface
allows to monitor the baery status at any
meviayoursmartphoneortablet(Androidor
AppleiOS-moreaboutLiontronApponp.10).
Other complex wired baery monitors are
not longer necessary and all important data
ofthe baeryand cells is readytohand.

isnotneededanylonger.TheLiFePo4baery
chargesupto10mesfasterthanconvenal
lead-acidbaeries.Evenforinstallaonexisng
chargecontrollersorchargercansllbeused.
Inordertoachieveastablevoltagesupplyevenunderheavyloads,alithiumbaeryisanidealreplacement
foralead-acidbaery.Inaddiontotheextremelyhighweightadvantage,italsooersenormousenergy
reserves.DuetotheintegratedBMS(baerymanagementsystem),lithiumbaeriesaresuitablefor12V
/24VDCapplicaons.AnincreaseofcapacitybyusingaddionalLiontronLiFePo4baeriescanbeeasily
done.
Lithium-iron-phosphatebaeriesarethesafestoftheregularlithiumbaeriytypes.Thenominalvoltageofa
LiFePO4cellis3.2V.Thereforeone12,8VLiFePO4baeryconsistsoffourcellsinserialconnecon.

Cellsinabaeryareneverequalfor100%.Forthisreason,somecellsareearlierfullchargedordischarged
thanothersinacycle.Thesedierencesbecomemorestrongerifthecellsarenotequalizedfrommeto
me.
Inlead-acid-baeriesasmallcurrentsllowsevenwhenoneormorecellsarefullycharged(themain
eectofthiscurrentissplingofwaterintowaterandoxygen).Withthehelpofthiscurrent,theother
cells, whose state of charge is lagging behind, are also charged and so the state of charge of all cells is
balanced.
ThecurrentowingthroughaLiFePO4cellisnearlyzerowhenitisfullycharged.Lesschargedcellswillnot
befullychargedforthisreason.Overme,thedierncebetweenindividualcellscanbecomeextremehigh,
sosomecellswillfailduetoover-orundervoltage,eveniftheoverallvoltageofthebaeryiswithinlimits.
ThisiswhyacvecellbalancingisbuiltintoallofourLiFePO4baeries.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF A BMS ARE:
-Proteconofcellsagainstundervoltagebyswitchingotheloadinme.
-Proteconofcellsagainstovervoltagebyreducingchargingcurrentorratherswitchingothe
charging process.
-Shuothesystemincaseofovertemperature.
-Chargingofthebaeryisstoppedincaseofundertemperature.
Therfore,aBMSisessenalforprevenngdamagetolithiumbaeries.

Ifthereareseveralbaeries,thebaeriescanbe
clearlydieredbytheserialnumber.Youwillnd
theserialnumberonasckeronthebaerycase.
Aer successful connecon, you will receive all
relevantvaluesforyourbaeryatoneview.
Incaseoffault,thestatusofthebaeryisshown
onthedisplaywihacorrespondingmessage,e.g.
„overvoltage“ or „undervoltage“.
As part of quality assurance, the baeries
and the installed components are subject to
regular checks before sale. Some charging and

baerybytheterminals,onlybythehandles.
ThebaeriesaretestedinaccordancewiththeUNmanualoftestsandcriteria,partIII,subsecon38.3
(ST/SG/AC.10/11/version5).Withregardstotransport,thebaeriesbelongtocategoryUN3480,class9,
packinggroupII.Thecorrespondingregulaonsmustbeobserved.Thismeansfortransportbylandorwater
(ADR,RID&IMDG)theymustbepackedinaccordancewithpackinginstruconP903andforairtransport
(IATA)inaccordancewithpackinginstruconP965.Theoriginalpackingcomplieswiththeserequirements.
2.4. DISPOSAL
Baeriesmarkedwiththerecyclingsymbolmustbereturnedtorecognizedrecyclingcenters.
Byarrangement,theycanalsobereturnedtothemanufacturer.Baeriesarenotallowedto
be disposed of in household or industrial waste.
Theterminalsofthelithiumbaeryareallwaysundervoltage.Therfore,neverplaceobjectsortoolson
thelithiumbaery.Avoidshortcircuits.Useinsulatedtools.Donotwearmetalobjectssuchaswatches,
bracelets,etc.onyourbody.Incaseofre,useclassDreexnguishers,foamorCO2reexnguishers.
2.5. IMPORTANT NOTES

Make absolutely sure that the LiFePO4 baery is not connected with reversed polarity. If the baery is
connectedincorrectly,theBMSelectronicswillbeirreparablydamagedandmustbereplacedwithanew
BMSboard.Thisisnotawarrantycase.

bytransport.Ifthisisthecase,donotoperatethedeviceandcontacttheseller.

3.6. PROTECTION AGAINST SHORT CIRCUITS
Installation of a single battery
Thebaerymustbeprotectedbyafuse.
Upondelivery,thebaeriesarechargedtoapproximately20%.Itisrecommendedtofullychargethenew
baeriesrstbeforeusingtheminparallelconguraons.
3.8. MAINTENANCE
Forbaerycare,keepterminalsandsurfaceclean,ghtenterminalsrmlyandgreaselightly.Usecyclically
atleastonceayeartomaintainthecapacityofthebaeryandcalibratethechargestatus.
3.9. STORAGE
Disconnectalldevices.Thebaeryshouldbestoredinacoolwellvenlatedplace.Avoiddirectsunlightat
all.Itisrecommendedtochargethebaerytoapprox.80%ofitscapacityandtocheckthestateofcharge
onceayear.
In case of an accident,

4.1. CELL BALANCING AND ALARMS
Each12.8Vbaeryconsistsoffourcellsconnectedinseries.Theinternalcellbalancingsystemis:
a) measurethevoltageofeachcellandmoveAhfromcellswiththehighestvoltagetocellswithalower
voltageunlthevoltagedierencebetweenthecellsislessthan50mV(acveequalizaon).
b) trigger an overvoltage (cell voltage > 3,75 V) or undervoltage (cell voltage < 2,80 V) alarm
whichisprocessedbytheBMS.
c) triggeranovertemperature(T>65°C)alarm,whichisprocessedbytheBMS.
d)triggeranundertemperature(T<-10°C)alarm,whichisprocessedbytheBMS.
4.2. CHARGE & DISCHARGE
TheLiFePo4baeryisfast-chargeable.Themeatgridconneconisenormouslyreduced.Longwaing
mesareeliminated.Duetothereisnomemoryeectwiththisbaery,thereisnoneedforbeingfully
chargedallme.Thelifespanwillberatherincreased,whenthebaeryisnotalwayschargedtostateof
100%.Forchargingthebaery,theadaponofprevioususeddeviceslikesolarchargecontrollersorsimilar
isnotneccessary.Thechargingvoltageisbetween13,8Vund14,6V.Aspecialchargerisnotneededsince
allIU-regulatedchargerscanbeused.
Donotexceedthemaximumpermiedchargingvoltage.
Usethebaeryonlyinthespeciedtemperaturerange.
Switchonthechargeronlyaerconnecngittothebaery.Aercharging,rstswitchothecharger
andthendisconnectthebaeryfromthecharger.
Ifthebaerybecomesveryhotduringchargingprocess,interruptthecharge,allowthebaerytocool
downbeforeconnuingthechargingprocess.
Thebaerymanagementsystem(BMS)automacallybalancesthecellswhennecessary.

WerecommendchargerswithaCCCVcharacteriscforopmumchargingofLiFePO4baeries.Therecommended
chargingvoltage(seetable)shouldbestrictlyobserved.Alowerchargingvoltagecanresultinthebaerynotbeing
fullychargedorthechargingmebeingsignicantlyextended.
Excessivechargingvoltagetriggerstheintegratedproteconofthebaeryandthechargingisstopped.Repeatedor
veryhighovervoltagemaycauseadefect.
Basicly, only baeriesof the same type andmodelshouldbeconnectedin parallel.Youshould neverconnecta
LiFePO4 baery directly with a lead-acid baery, as problems will occur due to the very dierent charging and
dischargingcharacteriscsofthebaeries.Forthecombinedusewithleadstarterbaerywerecommendasuitable
B2B charger (also called charge booster). This device allows controlled charging of the LiFePO4 baery by the
alternatorwithoutadirectconneconofleadandlithiumbaery.
THE CHARGING PROCESS STOPS BUT THE APP STILL DOES NOT SHOW 100%
Thebaerystopschargingassoonasoneofthecellshasreachedthemaximumstateofcharge.Whencharging
withaveryhighchargecurrent,itispossiblethatnotallcellshavereachedthisstateyet.Thebaeryautomacally
compensatesthesedierencesandallowschargingagainassoonasthecellshavebeenequalized.Especiallyfornew
baeriesoraerlongerstorage,werecommendchargingwithalowerchargingcurrenttousetheenrecapacity.
A CONNECTION VIA BLUETOOTH DOES NOT WORK.
Foraconnecontothebaery,yourequiretheLIONTRONapp.Adirectconneconviathebluetoothmenuofyour
smartphone is not possible.
As part of quality control, the baeries and the installed components are regularly checked before sale. Some
charginganddischargingcyclesarecompletelynormalandnoreasonforconcern.
Abaerycanonlybeconnectedtoonesmartphoneatame.Ifthebaerydoesnotappearinthelistofavailable
devices in the app, make sure that no other device is already connected to the baery. Also, make sure that
bluetoothisturnedon.Yourdevicemustsupportatleastbluetooth4.0.Insomecases,reinstallingtheapphelpsto
xproblems.
DIFFERENT STATES OF CHARGE WHEN SEVERAL BATTERIES ARE CONNECTED IN PARALLEL
Sinceeachbaeryinanetworkcalculatesthestateofchargeforitself,dierencesarenormal.Especiallywithnewly
connectedbaeries,itmaytakeseveralcyclesunlall baeriesof aparallelconneconhavebeenequalized.If
therearesllbigdierencesaerseveralworkingcycles,pleasecheckthecorrectwiringagain,asthiscouldbean
indicaonthatthebaeriesareunequallyloaded.
Ensureidencalcablecross-seconandcablelengthsareusedwhenconnecngthebaeriestoeachother.Loads
shouldbeconnectedtotheposivepoleoftherstbaeryandthenegavepoleofthelastbaeryinorderto
distributetheloadequallytoallbaeries.
Chargersforleadbaeriesmayonlybeusedifthecorrectchargingvoltageissetandnodesulfaonprogramis
used.Forecientcharging,werecommendchargerswithaspecialLiFePO4modeorprofessionaldeviceswhere
thevaluescanbeadjustedtoLiFePO4baeries,suchasVictronEnergybrandchargers,solarchargecontrollersand
combi devices.

LiontronGmbH&Co.KGprovidesconsumerswithavoluntarymanufacturer’swarrantyof5yearsinaddion
tothelegalwarranty.
The period for calculang the warranty period begins from the date of purchase by the rst customer
(date of invoice), but maximum 1 yearaer manufacture. The warranty period is not extended due to
the provision of services under this warranty, in parcular not in the case of replacement or repair.
Thewarrantyperioddoesnotstartnewinthesecases.
This warranty is valid for all Liontron Lithium baeries with a date of purchase on or aer 01.01.2019.
Excludedareaccessories,consumablesandotheraachmentstotheproduct.
TheterritorialscopeoftheguaranteeproteconisEurope-wide.
Thecondionforawarrantyclaimisadefectoramalfunconwhichnolongerallowsordisproporonately
restrictstheintendeduseofthebaery.
Claimsunderthiswarrantymustbemadebynofyingthemanufacturerinwringimmediately,butnolater
than14daysaerthedefectorabnormalityoccurs.Intheeventofawarrantyclaim,pleasecontactusas

Toprocessawarrantyclaim,itmustincludeacopyoftheproofofpurchaseandadescriponofthesupposed
defects.Withoutacopyoftheinvoice,theguarantormayrefusetoprovidewarrantyservice.Inorderto
examinethewarrantyclaim,theguarantormustbeallowedtoexaminethegoodsbysendingthegoodsin.
Caremustbetakentoavoiddamagetothegoodsintransitbysecurepackaging.
Thewarrantyservicesarelimitedineachcasetoamaximumofthevalueoftheoriginalpurchaseprice
paid.TheliabilityofLiontronGmbH&Co.KGunderthiswarrantyislimitedtothereplacement,repairor
reimbursementofcostsoftheproduct.Thechoiceofreplacement,repair,orreimbursementofcostsisthe
exclusiveresponsibilityofthewarrantor.Ifthedefecveproductisnolongerinthedeliveryprogram,the
guarantorreservestherighttoreplaceitwithatechnicallyequivalentproductfromthecurrentrange.
AlldefecvebaeriesorcomponentsreplacedunderwarrantybecomethepropertyofLiontronGmbH&
Co. KG.
Furtherclaims,especiallyforcompensaonofdirectorindirectdamagescausedbythedefectofthedevice,
thecostsincurredbytheremovalandinstallaonorlostprot,areexcluded,unlessliabilityismandatory
bylaw.

g)Disregardofsafetyprecauons,
h)ownmodicaons,programmingorrepairs,
i) usenotinaccordancewiththeoperanginstruconsorotherwiseimproperhandlingofthegoods
