About this guide
This guide is divided into five chapters, each of
which explains the different aspects of using your
Living Control Multi-room System.
Introduction explains how to use the system to
give you music at your fingertips throughout your
home.
Controlling your music explains the operation of
the Multi-room System using any of the three types
of control pad. If you are not interested in the more
advanced features this is the only chapter you need
to read.
Advanced features explains how to use the more
advanced features available on some installations,
including sleep timers, alarms, and events.
Editing titles explains how to use the Configuration
and Titles software to change the list of album titles
or preset names available on your system. You will
normally only need to do this if you have a multidisc
CD player or MusicBox in your system, and you
want to change the selection of CDs available from
that originally set up for you by your dealer.
Finally Troubleshooting provides helpful answers
to some typical problems that you may encounter
when using your Multi-room System.

Introduction
Welcome to the Living Control Multi-
room System. This guide explains how
to use the system to give you music at
your fingertips throughout your home.

Introduction

C
Music throughout your home
This section explains how the Living Control Multi-
room System works and some of the key concepts
to help you understand how it operates.
Rooms
The Living Control Multi-room System distributes
music to several different rooms, sometimes
referred to as zones. Each room can play music
through a pair of wall-mounting or floor standing
loudspeakers, or it can include a complete AV or hi-
fi system.
Sources
Your Living Control Multi-room System distributes
music from one or more sources, such as a CD
player or multidisc CD player, tuner, satellite
receiver, DVD player, or tape recorder. You can
freely select between the sources from any room,
and you can control the source from that room. For
example you can listen to a CD in the living room
while another member of your family listens to the
radio in the kitchen.
Album or station names
If your Multi-room System includes a multidisc CD
player, or the Living Control MusicBox hard disk
player, you will be able to choose between several
hundred CD titles by name from any room. In the
same way, with appropriate radio tuners, you can
select stations or presets by name in each room.
MusicBox3
The Living Control MusicBox3 provides playback of
up to 2650 hours of compressed music from a
built-in hard disk drive. Depending on your multi-
room controller you can listen to up to three
different tracks simultaneously in different rooms,
and control them independently.
Controlling your music
As well as selecting the source you want to listen to,
and selecting a CD, album, or radio preset by
name, you can also change the volume, mute the
sound, skip between tracks, and switch on or off
the system, all through a convenient wall-mounted
control pad in each room. The Living Control Multi-
room System provides a choice of three alternative
control pads, and your particular Multi-room System
may use one type of pad throughout, or you may
have chosen different control pads in different
rooms depending on the facilities you want in each
room.
VideoPad
The most flexible control pad, the VideoPad
provides a back-lit touch-sensitive display with clear
symbols for each function, and a full display of
album titles or preset names.

a standard light switch, and gives access to all the
Multi-room System’s features using just three

What you can do
The immediate benefit you will notice with your
Living Control Multi-room System is the ability to
choose exactly what you want to listen to, wherever
you are in your home, without needing to have a hi-
fi system and collection of CDs in every room.
The Living Control Multi-room System also provides
several more advanced features, including a sleep
timer, alarms, and events.
Note: These are only available on the EVENT! or
RoomBox6.
Taking the music with you
As well as choosing what you want to listen to in
each room, you can also play the same music in
every room, which is ideal for parties or when you
are listening to an important broadcast that you
don’t want to miss.
You can also take music with you as you move from
room to room, so if, for example you are in the
middle of listening to an album in the living room,
you can go up to the bedroom and carry on
listening. And when you decide to go to bed you
can switch the music off in every room from a single
control pad.
Sleep timer
Alternatively, a built-in sleep timer automatically
turns off the music you are listening to after a
specified delay, gradually reducing it in volume
before turning it off.
Alarms
A built-in alarms facility lets you set up to four
alarms in each room. These allow you to start music
of your choice playing at a specified time, on
specified days, and with control over the volume.
For example, during the week you can be woken up
at 7am by the news, but at the weekend you can
wake to chamber music playing quietly at 9am.
Events
Finally the Living Control Multi-room System will
work in conjunction with electric curtains and
lighting, and allow you to define events which
automatically open or close the curtains, and turn on
or off the lights at specified times.

Controlling your
music
This chapter explains how to control
the Multi-room System from a control
pad with step by step instructions for
each of the basic operations.

C
Using the control pads
The key to controlling any of Living Control’s multi-
room products is using the elegant wall mounted
control pads. Each room can have up to three
control pads.
DisplayPad
The DisplayPad is the same size as a light switch
and enables you to control all of your hi-fi
components, in each room of your home, from just
three buttons.
The DisplayPad includes a two-line display to show
what function you are selecting, and to display
album titles or preset names.
When operating the Multi-room System the lower
line of the display usually shows the function of the
three buttons. For example:
Room Off
Y !# N
This shows that the left and right buttons are used
to select yes and no respectively, and the centre
button returns to playing music.
VideoPad
The VideoPad, which is the same size as a double
light switch, uses a touch screen to provide totally
intuitive control of your Multi-room System using
pictorial icons:
Canceling your selection: If at any time while
you are using the DisplayPad or VideoPad you
change your mind, and want to abandon your
selection, simply leave the pad for six seconds
after which it will revert to whatever it was
previously
