2.1 Turning the SuperSonix-NG on and off
The SuperSonix-NG comes with a 12V grounded, 12.5A (output DC) power supply that connects
to the back of the device. Attach the included power supply to the SuperSonix-NG’s DC power
port in the back.
To turn the SuperSonix-NG on, press and immediately release the power button located on the
top right corner of the SuperSonix-NG. The SuperSonix-NG will turn on and start the boot
process.
It is normal for the fans to either turn off or slow down after the initial start-up
sequence.
To turn the SuperSonix-NG off, press and immediately release the power button on the top right
corner of the SuperSonix-NG. The SuperSonix-NG will begin its shut down process and after a
few seconds, the display and fans will turn off. The SuperSonix-NG can also be turned off from
the POWER OFF menu.
2.2 Connecting various drive types
The SAS/SATA, USB, and FireWire ports on the SuperSonix-NG are hot swappable. Drives that
are not being used in any task (image, hash, wipe, etc.) can be disconnected any time. The
PCIe port (available on the SuperSonix-NG-P version) is not hot-swappable.
Some drives that connect to the ports above are not hot swappable. Please check with the
drive manufacturer to find out if the drive being used does not support hot swapping.
The PCIe port is not hot-swappable. Always turn the SuperSonix-NG-P off when
connecting or disconnecting drives through the PCIe port.
Master drives do not have to be connected in any order. For example, a single SATA Master
drive does not have to be connected to the SAS/SATA S1 port. It can be connected to the
SAS/SATA S2 port without having anything connected to the S1 port.
Any combination of drives can be connected, up to 5 master drives and up to 5 target drives. For
example, one SAS drive, one SATA drive, one USB drive, one FireWire drive, and one M.2 SSD
can all be connected at the same time.
Cables and adapters are available for the following drive types:
SATA
SAS (optional –same cable for SATA, but software option must be enabled)
M.2 (SATA, AHCI), M.2 NVMe (for use with the SuperSonix-NG PCIe version)
mPCIe (for use with the SuperSonix-NG PCIe version)
2.5” and 3.5” PATA/IDE (optional)
FireWire (optional –included with FireWire software option enabled)
Micro SATA to SATA adapter (optional)

SAS S1 –SAS/SATA data port for the Master 1 (S1) position. Support for
SAS drives requires optional software activation.
SAS S2 –SAS/SATA data port for the Master 2 (S2) position. Support for
SAS drives requires optional software activation.
PWR 1 –Power port for SAS S1.
PWR 2 –Power port for SAS S2.
SS S1 –USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Master port.
PCIe –PCIe port for PCIe, mPCIe, and M.2 AHCI/NVME drives. Available
on the SuperSonix-NG PCIe version.
FW S1 –FireWire Master port –FireWire ports require optional
software activation.
The following Master ports require optional software activations
for certain functions:
SAS S1 & SAS S2 –Supports SATA drives as standard. Support for
SAS drives requires purchase of optional software activation.
FW S1 –Requires purchase of FireWire ports activation software
option.

Logicube SuperSonix-NG™ User’s Manual 10
Never connect a master drive to the target ports of the
SuperSonix-NG. Data may be overwritten if a drive is connected to
a target port.
2.2.2 Connecting Target Drives
Target drives must be connected to the right side of the SuperSonix-NG. These
ports are labeled as follows:
SAS D1 –SAS/SATA data port for the Target 1 (D1) position. Support for
SAS drives requires software activation.
SAS D2 –SAS/SATA data port for the Target2 (D2) position. Support for
SAS drives requires software activation.
PWR 1 –Power port for SAS D1.
PWR 2 –Power port for SAS D2.
USB D1 –USB 3.0 Target port.
PCIe –PCIe port for PCIe, mPCIe, and M.2 AHCI/NVME drives. Available
on the SuperSonix-NG PCIe version.
FW D1 –FireWire Target port. Support for SAS drives requires optional
software activation.
The following Target ports are affected by optional
software activations:
SAS D1, SAS D2 –Supports SATA drives. Requires the
purchase of the SAS Option to activate support for SAS
drives on master and target ports.
FW D1 –Requires purchase of the FireWire option to
activate this port.

2.2.3 Using USB/FireWire/eSATA enclosures
When using USB, FireWire, and/or eSATA enclosures, it is highly recommended
to leave the drive inside the enclosure. USB enclosures typically have an on-
board controller that may be necessary to read the drive properly. Taking the
drive out of the enclosure could cause any device (including computers) not to
read the drive contents properly.
2.2.4 Connecting SATA Drives using a USB-to-SATA adapter
Logicube has qualified a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter for use with the SuperSonix-
NG. This adapter provides the capability to connect SATA drives to the USB 3.0
ports on the SuperSonix-NG and uses a USB 3.0 to SATA converter between the
Adapter or USB 3.0 enclosure, and the SuperSonix-NG, allowing the device to be
detected properly.
2.2.5 Connecting PCIe/mPCIe/M.2 (AHCI/NVMe) Drives
Mini PCIe, and M.2 (AHCI or NVMe) drives can be connected using the optional
PCIe Kit or M.2 adapters. Standard PCIe drives can be connected directly to the
PCIe ports. PCIe ports are available on the SuperSonix-NG PCIe version only.
SuperSonix-NG-P –The PCIe version of the SuperSonix-NG supports the
following M.2, mPCIe, and PCIe drives:
M.2 SATA (with the optional PCIe kit part# F-ADP-T-PCIE-KT)
M.2 PCIe AHCI (with the optional PCIe kit part# F-ADP-T-PCIE-KT)
M.2 PCIe NVMe (with the optional PCIe kit part# F-ADP-T-PCIE-KT)
mPCIe (with the optional PCIe kit part# F-ADP-T-PCIE-KT)
PCIe (standard PCIe drives can be connected directly to the PCIe port)
SuperSonix-NG –The non-PCIe version of the SuperSonix-NG supports the
following M.2 and mPCIe drives:
M.2 SATA (with the optional adapter part# F-ADP-M.2-SATA)
M.2 PCIe AHCI (with the optional adapter part# F-ADP-M.2-USB)
2.2.5.1 Understanding mini PCIe, mSATA, and
M.2 SSDs
mSATA and Mini PCIe (mPCIe) –These SSDs have similar
connectors. The mSATA SSD is Serial-ATA based, while the Mini
PCIe is PCIe based. These two types of SSDs are not
interchangeable.
M.2 Solid State Drives (SSDs) come with one of two types of
physical layers (PHY) and three types of controllers:

GETTING STARTED
Logicube SuperSonix-NG™ User’s Manual 12
SATA physical layer –SATA M.2 SSDs utilize the
SATA controller.
PCIe physical layer –There are two controllers for PCIe
M.2 SSDs: AHCI Controller or NVMe Controller
Typically, SATA M.2 SSDs utilize the “B & M key” while PCIe
NVMe or PCIe AHCI SSDs utilize the “M key”.
Although the examples above are typical,
Logicube recommends contacting the SSD
manufacturer to determine whether the SSD has
a SATA interface or a PCIe interface.
2.3 The user interface
The user interface (UI) has been designed to quickly and easily input commands. It is simple and
intuitive showing common icons such as tasks, modes of operation, and scroll icons on the
screen. The UI is designed to be easily followed, going from left to right across the screen.
A –Operations/Tasks currently running (displays up to 5 total tasks)
B –Lock indicator/shortcut
C –Operations/Tasks
