English instructions
Inside the box you will find the following parts:
- back post;
- front post;
- foot rail with treadle;
- main wheel;
- cardboard roll with 3 bobbins;
- box with parts.
The box contains:
- flyer;
- sandpaper;
- two round bars, for connecting
both posts together;
- footman complete;
- hardware bag.
The hardware bag contains:
- bag with wheel axle with
mounting plate, 3 screws
4.5x20 mm, spring and 2
retaining rings (1 spare);
- bag with Allen key 4 mm and
footman bolt assembly (socket
head bolt, ball bearing, spring
washer and washer);
- bag with 14 screw hooks (2
spare);
- drive band;
- threaded insert M6;
- 1 screw 5x50 mm;
- 1 screw 3x20 mm;
- 3 screws 5x55 mm;
- 4 wooden dowels;
- 2 stainless steel axles for the
lazy kate;
- screw driver (pz2)
Use the sand paper to smooth the edges of the wooden parts.
The wood of this spinning wheel has no protecting finish. We advise you to
lacquer, stain or wax the wooden parts before assembling them.

Assembly
Screw 12 hooks into the flyer,
using the pilot holes. The hooks
need to be completely screwed
into the flyer, up to where the
bend starts.
Use a hammer to tap the shafts
into the holes of the round bar
(lazy kate). When the sound
changes you are at the bottom of
the hole.
Tap the four wooden dowels into
the holes at the bottom of the front
post.

Insert the footman with its flexible
piece into the hole of the treadle
and adjust the direction of the
eccentric cup facing away from
the treadle. Put your finger
underneath the treadle to be sure
that the end of the flexible piece is
flush with the bottom of the
treadle, while you fasten the
connection with the screw 3 x 20
mm.
Press the dowels of the front post
into the holes of the foot rail as far
as you can do it by hand. The
connection will be joined when
you screw the frame together.
Take the shortest of the four large
screws and screw the front post
onto the end of the second round
bar.
Use one of the larger screws to
fasten the front of the frame onto
the round bar with the lazy kate
shafts. The side where the shaft is
closest to the end should be at the
front of the wheel. By screwing it
firmly tight, foot rail and post will
be clamped together.

Mount the back post onto the assembly with the remaining two large
screws. Add the drive band to the assembly before you connect the back
post with the last screw.
Tap the threaded insert into the 8
mm hole at the side of the wheel
where the holes for attaching the
axle are. It is deep enough when
the head of the nut is close to the
surface of the wheel; later on
when you fasten the eccentric
bearing on the front side of the
wheel, the nut will be pulled into
the hole completely.
Use the 3 screws 4.5 x 20 mm to
mount the axle onto the wheel.

Place the spring onto the axle.
Mount on the main wheel to the
back post:
- Insert the axle trough the ball
bearings of the post.
- Now push the wheel and post
towards each other, so the
spring is pressed together and
the end of the axle protrude far
enough to make it easy to push
one of the retaining rings into
the groove of the axle.
This retainer has a small
protruding edge for your nail to
pull it out again; naturally this
edge should face outside.
The parts of the “footman bolt
assembly” are already assembled
in correct order onto the socket
head bolt: first the ball bearing,
then the spring ring and at last the
bigger washer. Screw this
assembly into the hole in the
wheel. Use the Allen key to
tighten.

Place the drive band behind the
footman and snap the nylon cup
over the ball bearing on the wheel.
It is easy if you hold the footman
in an angle while you push it on
(this also helps when you take it
off).
Secure the connection by pushing
the ring towards the edge of the
cup.
The slanting position of the lazy kate can be adjusted after you unscrew the
screws slightly at the base. Be sure to fasten the screws again.

Spinning instructions
Practice treadling, e.g. while reading a book, until your feet work
automatically.
Spinning: Plying:
Spinning:
Twisting the wool fibres to make a
single yarn.
Plying:
Joining 2 or more yarns together.
3 speed bobbin for
1. Thick / slow spinning
2. Medium / regular spinning
3. thin / fast spinning / plying
Make a knot in the start yarn and
lock it into the slot of the bobbin
shaft. Twist with your fingers a rough
yarn out of the wool and knot it to
that start yarn.
Spinning
Take the wool loose in your left hand. Pull a bit of wool out of your left hand
with the fingers of your right hand in the direction of the orifice, so far as the
fibre volume of the yarn requires. Then while treadling slowly and still
gripping the yarn move your right hand back towards your left and allow the
twist to develop. Then you can let it go through the orifice and it will be
wound up on the bobbin. Always keep thumb and finger closed when sliding
over the fibres. Adapt the speed of foot and hand working to get a good twist
of the thread.
Too little twist;
Brake strap on the flyer to
regulate the strength with
which the yarn is pulled in.
Too much twist;
Correct twist.
Fill the bobbin evenly by changing
the yarn from one hook to another.

Plying
It is easy to ply two threads to one thicker yarn if you place two full bobbins
on the special bobbin holders. Take care that the threads lie parallel in your
hands before plying.
What can go wrong?
The yarn is too hard and overtwisted. Possible causes:
1. You are treadling too fast, compared with the speed of your hands.
2. The yarn pulls in too slowly. You must brake the flyer a bit more. Or
maybe the yarn is obstructed by a piece of straw.
3. The yarn is caught on one of the yarn guiders.
4. The bobbin is full.
The yarn breaks constantly. Possible causes:
1. Too little twist, the yarn is not strong enough for winding up.
2. The yarn pulls in too hard. The tension is too great .Reduce tension with
the knurled nut.
3. Wool of bad quality (too short fibre).
Treadling is very heavy. Possible causes:
1. More brake on the flyer than you need.
2. The yarn is obstructed by one of the yarn guiders on the flyer.
3. The bobbin is full.
The fibres are very difficult to draw out of the wool supply.
Possible causes:
1. You are holding the wool supply too tightly.
2. The twisting got in your wool supply. Take care that the twist does not
come behind your right hand. Keep thumb and finger closed.
3. Wool of bad quality (felted, needs combing)
I am not spinning for a while. How can I best store my wheel?
During periods when you are not spinning, we recommend that you take the
drive band out of the bobbin groove and position it on the flyer bearing (for
Irish tension wheels) or take the drive band out of the pulley groove and
position it in front of the pulley on the axle (for Scotch tension wheels).
Maintenance
Use a drop of oil to grease the plastic bearings. Lubrication of the ball
bearings is not needed.

Nederlandse instructie
Als je de doos geopend hebt, vind je daarin het volgende:
- achterste staander;
- voorste staander;
- voetregel met trapplankje
- vliegwiel;
- kartonnen koker met 3 spoelen;
- doos met onderdelen.
De doos bevat:
- vlucht;
- schuurpapier;
- 2 ronde regels, voor de
verbinding van beide
staanders;
- trapstokje compleet;
- beslagzakje.
Het beslagzakje bevat:
- zakje met wielas met
montageplaatje, 3 schroefjes
4,5x20 mm, veertje en 2 nylon
borgkransjes (1 reserve);
- zakje met inbussleutel 4 mm
en excentersamenstel
(inbusbout, kogelager,
veerring, en ring);
- zakje met 14 schroefhaakjes
(2 reserve);
- aandrijfsnaar;
- hulsmoer M6;
- 1 schroeven 5x50 mm;
- 1 schroef 3x20 mm;
- 3 schroeven 5x55 mm;
- 4 houten drevels;
- 2 assen voor de twijnspoelen;
- schroevendraaier (pz2).
Gebruik het schuurpapier om randen, waar nodig, bij te schuren.
Het hout van dit spinnewiel is ongelakt. Het is verstandig de houten
onderdelen te lakken, beitsen of waxen voordat je ze monteert.

Montage
Schroef 12 vluchthaakjes in de
voorgeboorde gaten in de vlucht.
De haakjes moeten tot aan de
bocht in het hout worden
gedraaid.
Tik de assen voor de
twijnspoelen in de gaten van het
ronde regel. Daarbij hoor je aan
het geluid wanneer je op de
bodem van het gat zit.
Tik de 4 houten drevels in de
gaten onderaan de voorstaander.

Steek het trapstokje met het
flexibele eind in het gat van het
trapplankje en draai het
trapstokje zo dat de excentercup
van het trapplankje af wijst.
Terwijl je de verbinding
vastschroeft met schroefje 3 x 20
mm hou je met je vinger het
flexibele eind gelijk met de
onderkant van het trapplankje.
Druk de voorstaander met de
drevels in de gaten van de
voetregel, zover als dat met de
hand gaat; ze worden later op
elkaar geklemd bij het in elkaar
schroeven van het frame.
Van de vier grote schroeven
waarmee het frame gemonteerd
wordt, is er één iets korter. Deze
schroef gebruik je om aan de
bovenkant van de voorstaander
de andere ronde regel vast te
schroeven.
Schroef met een van de langere
schroeven de voetregel en de
voorstaander aan de ronde regel
met de assen vast. Zorg ervoor
dat de kant waar de as het
dichtst bij het eind zit aan de
voorkant van het spinnewiel
komt. Als je de schroef stevig
aandraait, wordt de drevelver-
binding goed samengeklemd.

Gebruik je de twee overgebleven grote schroeven om, met de montage
van de achterpaal, het frame compleet te maken. Vergeet niet de snaar in
het frame te hangen voordat je de laatste verbinding maakt.
Tik met een hamer de hulsmoer
in het 8 mm gat van het wiel; aan
de kant van het wiel waar ook de
3 gaatjes voor de asbevestiging
zitten. De kop van de hulsmoer
wordt straks bij montage van het
excenter vast aangetrokken, dus
hoeft nu niet helemaal op het
hout aan te sluiten.
Schroef met de 3 schroeven 4,5
x 20 mm de as met zijn montage
plaat op het wiel.

Schuif het veertje op de as.
Monteer het wiel op de
achterpaal:
- Steek de as door de
kogellagers.
- Druk nu wiel en paal naar
elkaar toe, waardoor het
veertje wordt samengedrukt
en de as er vanachter ver
genoeg uitsteekt om
gemakkelijk een van de nylon
borgkransjes in het groefje te
drukken aan het eind van de
as.
Het kransje heeft een klein
uitstekend randje om hem er met
je nagel weer uit te kunnen
trekken. Dat randje moet dus aan
de buitenkant zitten.
De onderdelen van het excenter
zitten al in de geode volgorde op
het inbusboutje: Eerst het
kogellager, dan de veerring en
tenslotte de grotere ring.
Schroef dit samenstel in het gat
in het wiel en draai het met de
inbussleutel stevig aan.

Leg de snaar achter het
trapstokje en druk de plastic cup
over het kogellager. Dit gaat
gemakkelijk als je de cup schuin
houdt (ook bij het eraf halen).
Sluit de verbinding door de ring
naar de rand van de cup te
schuiven.
De schuine stand van de twijnspoelassen kun je aanpassen door de
schroeven van de ronde stok even een halve slag los te draaien en na
correctie weer vast te schroeven.
Accessoires S17 spinnewiel
Optionele accessoires voor je S17 spinnwiel zijn:
- Art yarn vlucht, bulky vlucht en bulky/art yarn spoelen
- Snelspinvlucht en snelspinspoelen
- Vrijstaande twijnspoelhouder:
- Passend voor 3 bulky/art yarn spoelen of 4 standaard of
snelspinspoelen
- Regelbare afremming van de spoelen
- Universele molenhaspel
- Handhaspel

Spininstructie
Oefen het trappen, bv. terwijl je een boek leest, zodat je dit kunt zonder
eraan te denken.

Het spinnen van een enkele draad
Twijnen:
Het samenvoegen van 2 of meer
draden tot een dikkere draad.
Spoel met 3 spinsnelheden
(versnellingen) voor:
1. dik / langzaam spinnen
2. middelfijn spinnen
3. dun / snel spinnen / twijnen
Maak een knoop in de begindraad
en haak die vast in het slotgat van
de spoelschacht. Draai met de
vingers een begin aan een stuk ruwe
wol (rechtsom van je af gerekend) en
knoop dat aan de begindraad.
Twisten
Neem de wolvoorraad losjes in je linkerhand. Met de vingers van de
rechterhand trek je de wol uit de voorraad tot een lont van de gewenste
dikte.
Schuif de vingers weer terug en trek opnieuw wol uit de voorraad. Houd de
duim en wijsvinger altijd gesloten.
De snelheid van trappen moet je aanpassen aan de snelheid waarmee je
met je handen werkt, zodat er goede twist ontstaat.
Te weinig;
Afremming vlucht
Regel met de kartelmoer de
kracht waarmee de draad naar
binnen getrokken wordt.
Te veel twist;
Juiste twist.

Spin de spoel regelmatig vol
door de draad steeds via een
ander haakje op de spoel te
leiden.
Twijnen
Vanaf het twijnrek kun je de draden van 2 vol gesponnen spoelen samen
twijnen tot 1 draad. Zorg ervoor dat de draden tussen de handen mooi
evenwijdig liggen voordat je ze in elkaar laat draaien.
Wat kan er mis gaan?
De draad breekt herhaaldelijk. Mogelijk oorzaken:
1. Te weinig twist waardoor de draad geen sterkte heeft.
2. Te veel trek op de draad. De vlucht moet minder sterk afgeremd worden.
3. Slechte kwaliteit wol (te kort).
De draad is te hard en te kringelig. Dit komt door te veel twist, doordat:
1. Je trapt te snel in verhouding tot het werk met je handen.
2. De draad trekt niet voldoende naar binnen. Je moet de vlucht meer
afremmen met de kartelmoer.
3. De draad loopt niet goed langs de haakjes.
4. De spoel is vol.
Het spinnewiel trapt zwaar. Mogelijke oorzaken:
1. Je remt de vlucht meer dan nodig is om de draad naar binnen te trekken.
2. De draad loopt niet goed langs de geleiders
3. De spoel is vol.
De lont trekt te moeilijk wol uit de voorraad. Mogelijke oorzaken:
1. Je houdt de wol voorraad te strak vast.
2. De twist is tot in de wol voorraad gekomen. Zorg ervoor dat de twist niet
voorbij de vingers van de rechterhand komt.
3. Slecht kwaliteit wol (vervilt).
Onderhoud
Je kunt de kunststof lagers smeren met een druppeltje (naaimachine)olie.
De kogellagers hoeven niet te worden gesmeerd.

Verwenden Sie das Schleifpapier, um die Kanten der Holzteile zu glätten.
Das Holz dieses Spinnrad hat kein schützendes Finish. Wir empfehlen
Ihnen, die Holzteile vor dem Zusammenbau zu lackieren, zu färben oder zu
wachsen.
Montage
Schrauben Sie 12 Haken mit den
Führungslöchern in den Flyer. Die
Haken müssen vollständig in den
Flyer eingeschraubt werden, bis
zu der Stelle, an der die Biegung
beginnt.
Schlagen Sie die Stahlachsen mit
einem Hammer in die Löcher der
Holzstäben (Zwirnhalterung).
Wenn sich der Ton ändert, sind
Sie am Grund des Lochs.
Klopfen Sie die vier Holzdübel in
die Löcher unten am vorderen
Ständer.
