thewholeworld.Italso shows southern Canada, all ofthecontinental
UnitedStates,andMexicoata
higher
resolutionthanothercountries.This
map issufficient formostusers, however, Lowrance has an optional
cartridge
readercalledtheMaplink thataccepts
both Lowrance and C-
MapTMcartridges. These
cartridges havesmallarea
mapsbuiltintothem
thatallows
you
to"zoom"inandseemuchmoredetailthanisavailableon
thebuilt-inmap. TheMaplink
alsohasthe
CMapTMbackgroundmapbuilt
into
it,
so
youhavethe
optionof
using
itortheLowrance
backgroundmap
atanytime,evenifa
cartridge isn't
plugged intotheMaplink.
ToinstalltheMaplink, followtheinstructions included with it. Itcanbe
mountedon
top
ofthe
dash,underthe
dash,or inthedashforaclean,
professional look.Onceit's installed, route thecableincluded withthe
Ma1.Aink
tothesmallconnectoronthebackofthe
GlobalMap1000.Ifthe
suppliedcable istoo short, an extension cable, model MLXT-12 is
available thatis 12feetlong. Afterconnecting thecable, theMaplink
is
readyforuse.The Maplink receives itspowerthrough theconnecting
cable,
simplifying theinstallation.

Youcanattachuptoseven Maplinkcartridge readers tothe
GlobalMap
1000.Thisletsyou usedifferentcartridges without
having
tounplugone
andreplace itwithanotherwhen
you
moveoutofthefirst
cartridge's area.
Thisalsoallowsthemounting
ofthe
Maplinksunderthe
dash,outof
sight.
Ifyou're
not
using
theMaplink,connect thesmallterminatorplug
supplied
withthe
GlobalMap
1000intothesmallconnector
onthebackoftheunit.
Thiswillprotect theconnectfromtheelements.

TheGlobalMap 1000 sends data outaccording tostandardssetbythe
NMEA(NationalMarine
ElectronicsAssociation).
ThisallowstheGlobalMap
1000tosend
position,andnavigation informationto"listener'
units,such
as
autopilotsandother
marineinstruments.The
GlobalMap1000usesthe
followingNMEAdataprotocols: NMEAO180and0183.NMEA0180sends
steeringinformation only.It's useful mainly forautopilots. NMEA 0183
sends
position,steering,speed, andmore. Inordertousethisfeature,
the
wiresonthepowercablemust
beconnected totheNMEA data
inputon
theotherinstrument.

forwiringconnection information.
Once
you
connectthe
wiring properly,the
GlobalMap 1000must betold
whichdataformattouse. Consult theowner'smanual ofthe "listener"
equipmenttoseewhichformatitneeds.ThensettheGlobalMap1000as
