1.0 Electrical nstallation
1.1 Power Requirements
The Hand Held Miniature Spectrometers use D power accomplished by a dedicated external power
supply. The A line provides power to the external power supply. Battery power is available as an
option for portable or mobile applications. (see section 1.3 below.)
1.2 Connecting the Spectrometer
CAUT ON: Before doing anything, be sure the spectrometer power switch is OFF.
See Appendix 1: Basic abling Diagram
1.2.1 AC Mains to the Power Supply
onnect the male plug of the IE 320 line cord to a grounded 100-120/220-240V A , 60/50 Hz.
mains outlet. Plug the female connector of the IE 320 line cord into the A receptacle of the
power supply.
1.2.2 UPS Connections (Optional)
onnect the male plug of the IE 320 line cord from the UPS unit to a grounded 100-120/220-
240V A , 60/50 Hz. Mains outlet. Plug the female connector of the IE 320 line cord into the UPS
input power receptacle. Plug the power cord from the external power supply into the UPS output
receptacle.
1.2.3 External Power Supply connection to the Spectro eter
Plug the external power supply onnector into the spectrometer’s power receptacle.
This is the smaller socket (labeled “POWER”).
1.2.4 Ethernet Connection
Plug the computer’s Ethernet connector into the spectrometer’s communication receptacle.
(labeled “ OMM”).
Switch the spectrometer ON. The RED status light, next to the power switch, should come on.
After the spectrometer boots the YELLOW status light should come on. (This will take
approximately 30 seconds.)
The spectrometer is ready.

1.3 Battery Power to the Spectrometer (Optional)
The spectrometer is fitted with an external battery mount (referred to as a mount.), that allows
Rechargeable Ni ad batteries to be easily installed and removed. A fully automatic battery charger
provides support.
1.3.1 Battery installation
With the spectrometer power switch turned OFF remove the external power supply connector
from the spectrometer. Place a charged battery into the mount connector and slide it into
position so that it latches. Turn the spectrometer ON and observe that the RED status light comes
on.
NOTE: Do not apply power to the spectrometer with both the external power supply and battery
connected.
1.3.2 Battery Re oval
Press the latch at the top right side of the battery, slide the battery up and pull it out of the
-mount.
1.3.3 Battery charging
Place the battery into the -mount on the charger and slide it into place so that the latch
engages. harging is fully automatic. There is no need to fully discharge the battery prior to
charging and it may be left in place after it is fully charged. Refer to the owner’s manual for
information about the use of the charger.

2.0 Communications
2.1 Ethernet Cabling
Remote control of the spectrometer through the use of a client or remote P is provided through an
Ethernet connection utilizing Twisted-Pair (10Base-T) cabling. The twisted-pair cabling for the Hand
Held Unit uses an RJ-45 modular connector at the client end; the connection at the spectrometer end
uses a latching cylindrical connector that is more robust than the RJ45 jack.
Two Ethernet 10Base-T devices can communicate only if the transmitter on one device is connected
to the receiver of the other device. Thus when connecting two identical twisted - pair ports a crossover
must be implemented in the wiring as in the following diagram. This crossover is configured in the 3
meter long Ethernet UTP cabling ( at.5) supplied with the unit.

additional cable then the two pairs of wires must be straight through.

See Appendix 2 - WLAN Installation Diagram
2.2.1 Changing the co unication protocol
2.2.1.1 Accessing your spectro eter IP Address
1) Begin by removing the spectrometer cover to expose the serial keyboard and VGA
monitor ports.
2) Hook up a monitor and keyboard to your spectrometer.
3) After hooking up the monitor and keyboard, you should see “Luminar T P/IP onsole
Manager” as shown in Figure 1:
Figure 1

4) From within the “Luminar T P/IP onsole Manager”, type “quit” to close the onsole
Manager and Exit to the DOS prompt.
5) You should now be in the “ :\FLASH>” directory. If not, type
“ D \FLASH” to navigate to the proper location.
Example: CD \FLASH
6) Type “edit pctcp.ini” to open the file as shown in Figure 2:
Example: C:\FLASH>edit pctcp.ini
Figure 2
7) Scroll down until you see the [pctcp ifcust 0] section and within this section you will
find your spectrometer IP Address. Write your IP Address below.
IP ADDRESS:
SUBMASK:

8) When finished making your changes, press F7 to exit the editor. If prompted to save
the file, simply click the “enter” key.
9) Reboot your spectrometer by recycling the power off and back on.
2.2.1.2 Using the PUTGET progra to change IP Address
1) Execute the PUTGET program and then click the List Directory button.
2) hange to the “ :\FLASH” directory and then highlight "pctcp.ini" file.
Figure 3

3) lick the “>” copy button to copy the file to the current local folder.
4) Using notepad, open the “pctcp.ini” file and find the IP Address entry under the
“[pctcp ifcust 0]” heading.
5) hange the IP Address and subnet-mask if need, and save your changes.
6) opy the modified file back to the spectrometer under the same directory “c:\flash” by
clicking the “<” copy button.
7) lick “<” Reboot button to reboot your spectrometer. A message box will pop up, click
ok to reboot the spectrometer.
NOTE: The Reboot command does not work with all spectrometers, to recycle your
changes you will need to turn the unit off and back on.

4.0 Pre-aligned Lamp
The Lamp Assembly is pre-aligned at the factory. Replacement of this assembly requires no field
alignment.
4.1 Pre-aligned Lamp Replacement
Refer to Appendix 3 for Illustrations
1. Remove the Heat Sink over, 732-01 from the Lamp Assembly. Turn the large knurled
retaining ring in towards the case of the unit until it clears the threads of the over and remove
the over.
2. Remove the four Socket Head Screws using the hex wrench (Allen wrench) provided.
3. Pull the Lamp Assembly from the unit, it is held by two banana plugs that make the electrical
connection for the Lamp.
4. Plug the replacement Lamp Assembly into the sockets for the banana plugs and push it into
place.
5. Replace the four socket head screws and tighten them.
6. Replace the Heat Sink over.
The Lamp replacement is complete and the unit is ready for use.
5.0 Gain Adjustments
Gain Adjustments can be made either externally (Hardware) or internally (Software).
5.1 Hardware Gain Adjust
The gain should be adjusted for an application to provide an optimum number of counts
(45,000-55,000; scan mode, no ratio) from the best sample. Once set for a particular application it
should not be changed. This will avoid saturating the detectors.
(refer to Appendix 1 - Basic abling Diagram)
6.0 Probes (Optional)
Probes that permit measurements beyond the range of the standard unit can be fitted in place of the
window mount.
6.1 nstalling the Probe
Refer to Appendix 4 for Illustrations
1.) Unscrew the retaining ring at the base of the installed cap and remove the ring and the
cap. Set the cap aside.

DO : SUMan-5030GenInstallManual-v3-rev7-20180314
2.) Pick up the probe and note that there is a locating pin on the flange of the probe that
provides orientation. Place the probe onto the front of the unit with the locating pin seated into
its hole.
3.) Slide the retaining ring over the probe and screw it into place on the threads of the unit.
The Probe is installed and ready for use.
