B. Design and Installation Considerations

installation inspection and permits.

- Theventsystemcongurationtobeused.
- Gas supply piping.
- Electrical wiring.
- Framingandnishingdetails.
- Whetheroptionalaccessories-devicessuchasa
fan, wall switch or remote control - are desired

Thisreplacemaybeusedasaroomdivider,installed
alongawall,acrossacornerorusedinanexteriorchase.
See Figure 2.2.
Locatingthereplaceinabasementshouldbeavoided.
Locatingnearfrequentlyopeneddoors,centralheat
outletsorreturns,orotherlocationsofconsiderableair
movementcanaffecttheperformance.
Considerationshouldbegiventothesefactorsbefore
deciding on a location.

2. Locating Fireplace & Chimney
Locationofthereplaceandchimneywillaffectperfor-
mance.
• Installwithinthewarmairspaceenclosedbythebuilding
envelope.Thishelpstoproducemoredraft,especially
duringlightinganddie-downofthere.
• Installingthereplaceinabasementisnotrecommended.
• Penetrate the highest part of the roof. This minimizes
the effects of wind loading.
• Locate termination cap away from trees, adjacent
structures,unevenrooflinesandotherobstructions.
• Minimizetheuseofchimneyoffsets.
• Considerthereplacelocationrelativetooorandceiling
and attic joists.
• Takeintoconsiderationtheterminationrequirementsin
Section4.
