August 2020
Major features of Firmware Version 2 for the DinoPark Modelling Synthesizer include
Releases of FMagia, LightWave and Drumns'n'Bass - raising the official number of DinoPark models from four to seven!
Editors for all seven Models - as VSTi Control Plugins but also as stand-alone Editor programs which can be operated without a
sequencer installed
support for MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"
support of the DinoDials - now available in 8-Encoder and 12-Encoder versions
PLEASE NOTE - The new VSTi / Standalone Editors for DinoPark require the DinoPark unit to run on v2 Firmware, so please
update your DinoPark hardware first.
Update Procedure:
have a Windows PC running Java ready
connect DinoPark via USB and run update batch files
connect Display/Encoder board via USB and run update batch files
download and install the new VSTi Editors
PLEASE NOTE - To complete the update, both the DinoPark board AND the Display/Encoder board must be updated. The unit
will not work if one board is left on v1 status.
Are you ready? Please follow the update instructions closely. If anything does not work out as expected we'd like to know such that
we can help you and iron out potential problem areas in the software and documentation.
Caution - if you have made your own presets with the VSTi editor, please save each preset via the "SAVE PRESET TO DISK"
function BEFORE you do the update. The update will erase all your custom presets to a factory preset status and after the update,
you will want to "LOAD PRESET FROM DISK" and save them back to the DinoPark unit.

If you do not have a Windows PC or for other reasons cannot or do not want to perform the update yourself, please contact us at
[email protected] (mailto:[email protected]). (No, there are no plans for making an updater for Mac
or Linux) We can offer to do the update for you when you send in your unit.
If you are unsure if Java is installed on your machine, open a command prompt and enter the following command: java -version
If you receive an answer like this ...
java version "1.8.0_261"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_261-b12)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 25.261-b12, mixed mode, sharing)
... then you are good to go. Version "1.8..." means you have Java 8 installed.
If you receive this answer...
The command "java" is either misspelled or could not be found.
... it means there is no Java installation on your PC.
To install Oracle Java, visit www.java.com (https://www.java.com/), click on the "Download Java" button, followed by the "Agree
and Start Free Download" button. Double click the downloaded .exe file to start it and follow the instructions on the screen.
If you do not want to use Oracle Java or are not allowed to use it for licensing reasons, for example, you can use OpenJDK. The
easiest way is to use adoptopenjdk.net (https://adoptopenjdk.net/). Click on the download button "Latest release" to get the latest
version as an MSI installer, which you also simply double-click to run.
Open the Windows Device Manager and unfold the "Ports (COM & LPT)" section. This way you can easily see under which COM
port the Text Display and DinoPark (before Step 2) appear on your machine. Alternatively, you can use the command mode in the
command prompt.
The DinoPark Updater is delivered as a ZIP archive. Download your copy here:
https://www.makeproaudio.com/downloads/dinopark/updates/DinoPark-v2-Updater.zip
The only installation step is to unzip and copy the downloaded Updater into a directory of your choice.
The extracted archive should look like this:

DinoPark-Update-Step1.bat
DinoPark-Update-Step2.bat
Display-Update.bat
DinoPark has to be updated in two steps. There are two batch files (DinoPark-Update-Step1.bat and DinoPark-Update-Step2.bat)
which you launch to start the respective update step.
Connect DinoPark via USB to your Windows PC, supply it with 12V and switch it on. It should now show up as a MIDI Device
"DinoPark" in your device manager. Open a command prompt, navigate to your DinoPark_Update directory and start DinoPark-
Update-Step1.bat. Wait until the first step is finished with the following message:
DinoPark Updater Step1 SUCCESS!
Please look up the newly assigned COM port number and start Step2.
After a successful Step 1, your DinoPark will no longer appear as a MIDI Device but as a serial device (a COM port). Read from the
Windows Device Manager under which COM port DinoPark can be reached. After executing step 1, it should appear there with an
entry like "USB Serial Port (COM8)". Alternatively, you can use the command mode in the command prompt. Now start the batch
file "DinoPark-Update-Step2.bat" and pass the COM port just determined as parameter, e.g. like this
DinoPark-Update-Step2.bat COM8
This process may take a while, do not interrupt it under any circumstances! Wait until the update is finished with this message:
DinoPark Updater Step2 and Update SUCCESS!
Please power-cycle your DinoPark and enjoy v2 Firmware!
You're done. Restart your DinoPark.
To update the firmware of the DinoPark's text display, you have to connect it directly to your Windows PC. To do this, switch off
your DinoPark, remove the USB cable and the power supply.
You do not have to disassemble the DinoPark completely to get to the USB port of the Text Display. Normally, the following
procedure should be sufficient:
1. Unscrew the two screws on the upper edge of the Text Display.
2. Carefully pull up the two upper side rails a little bit, just enough to pull out the first blind tile (see photo).

Update the Text Display

Now connect the Text Display via USB to your Windows PC.
Open a command prompt and navigate to your DinoPark_Update directory.
Read from the Windows Device Manager under which COM port the Text Display can be reached. It should appear there with an
entry like "USB Serial Port (COM7)". Alternatively, you can use the command mode in the command prompt. Now start the batch
file Display-Update.bat from the command prompt and pass the COM port you just determined as parameter, e.g. like this
Display-Update.bat COM7
During the update, the display turns off and on again, which is perfectly normal. Wait until the update is completed with the
following message:
DinoPark Display Updater SUCCESS!
Now disconnect the USB cable from the text display and close the housing:
1. Carefully pull the two side rails upwards again, so that you can push the removed blind tile back in.
2. Replace the two upper screws and tighten them.
Done! You can now switch on and use your DinoPark again.
There is a new Installer for VSTi and Standalone Editors available.
New in v1.2 is
A set of Standalone Editor Applications. These can be started per Plugin as an independant application, not depending on any
DAW with VSTi Host.
VSTis and Standalone Editors for FMAGIA, LightWave and Drums'n'Bass
The Mac version now also supports macOS 10.15 "Catalina"
PLEASE NOTE that in order for these Editors in v1.2 to run, DinoPark FirmWare Version 2 is required!
